You forgot to mention THE incident!

During one of the last shows a guy bet he could jump over some moving cars with a set of those jumping stilts. He fell and had a horrible accident leaving him paralyzed down from his neck.

Shortly afterwards Gottschalk said he doesn't feel fit to go on with the show and left. Probably not the sole reason but the accident certainly pushed him over the edge.

Ich nehme an, ihr wisst wo's lang geht damit, aber wenn nicht: "might as well" kommt vor wenn man unterwegs oder mittendrin des Handelns einer Sache, und was anderes kann gleichzeitig oder gleich danach leicht erledigt werden:

- Da die Mülltone neben dem Wascheraum ist, you might as well wasch deine Wäsche.

- Da wir heut in die Stadt gehen, might as well unsere Kaufbeutel mitbringen und bei Edeka einkaufen

Auch: We might as well not even go, da es regnet so heftig

There certainly is no 1to1 translation but there are certain structures conveying the same idea. Like

Da die Mülltone sowieso/ohnehin neben dem Waschraum ist, kannst du auch gleich deine Wäsche waschen.

auch gleich = sofort // immediately .. or maybe a stronger version of now. ( DO IT NOW, so you dont have to remember later. = mach es gleich, dann musst du dich nachher nicht dran erinnern.

vielleicht passt "gleichzeitig" auch in manchen deiner Beispielsätze.

Wow, I didn't know he did it since '87, I wasn't even born then. He was really awesome though and I always really liked him as the host, I don't think it'll have the same effect when watching without him there. :/ I can understand why he gave it up but it's still a same. :(

heute hab ich was gehört: Ein Kindchen sagte seiner Mutter "ich hab ehh Hunger!!" wonach ein zufällig aufschnappender Alter gekichert und das "ehhh" ganz bedrückt nachgesagt hat.

Die Frage ist halt, was heiß eigentlich "ehhhh"? das hab ich noch net sagen hören.. in diesem Kontext ist es klar, dass es etwas nachdrückt.. oder? wie sonst kann es benutzt werden?

Don't think that's a word. My guess would be the kid said "ich habe Hunger" but prolonged the letter e so much to emphasize just how hungry it is.

Ohnehin, überhaupt, sowieso. Manchmal durchaus. Ist auch ein richtiges Wort, gehört aber ganz klar in den Teil von Deutschland, der nicht nördlich von Hannover liegt.

Man muss sagen, dass eine Form der Verwendung stärker verbreitet ist als alle anderen: Sowieso (kannst Du vielleicht übersetzen als "regardless"). Im Sinne von "Der hat eh keine Ahnung" oder "Du kannst eh gleich Dein Maul halten" oder "Du bist eh zu dumm, um das zu rechnen".

Usually not needed but used to express that something actually happened / will happen.

es wurde mir erst heute aufgetaucht, dass die ganze Zeit hab ich mich hierbei versprochen. Ich habe immer so geschrieben:

wo sonst / wer sonst als X

anscheinend ist das saufalsch, nach meinem Professor zumindest. Habt ihr denn ne Ahnung, wie ich das schreiben würde? men Professor war gelinde gesagt keine Hilfe


ich hab übrigens erst gestern "Boah eyyy" gelernt, und bisher ist es weitaus mein Lieblings Ausdrück. Boaaaah ey ist sie ne dicke..

Could you give some more specific examples? It's often easier with context.

Wo/wie/wer (...) sonst ..., wenn nicht/außer/abgesehen von ...

Would probably be a translation, but again, it's easier with specific examples.

ich hab versucht, es so zu schreiben; "Denn wo sonst könnte so eine Veranstaltung stattfinden als in diesem Land" oder was aehnliches

You could maybe reshape it like so: "In welchem Land könnte so eine Veranstaltung sonst stattfinden"

But your version is perfectly valid.

Opfer and it's derivatives are THE swear words at the moment. It literally victimizes you right from the start. It sounds kinda harmless but its really offensive in an ominous situation imho. I'd say it was used in the sense of "you're such a tool" but now it's more akin to it's actual meaning victim: "I fuck you up you victim!"

Edit: But that's really just my experience from living in Berlin. I guess others might not find it that harsh.

Ja, ist sowas in die Richtung. Wird vornehmlich von türkischstämmigen Jugendlichen benutzt. Ich hab's in Hamburg gegen 2003 oder so das erste Mal gehört.

I'd have a little favor to ask for. Background: tomorrow I'm taking the oral part of my German exam and it includes a self-presentation. In the grand scheme of things it may prove to make or break my entire exam, thus I want to prepare for it the best way I can.

What I'm asking for is, if some preferably native speaker of German could briefly skim over what I've prepared? It isn't long (a single paragraph, less than 200 words) so for someone who knows German well it shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes. I don't need it to be 100% perfect, I just want it to sound correct.

It would really mean a lot to me if someone could help me here!

Also, thanks for further help but I don't really have problems with pronunciation, however writing anything by myself is a completely different thing.

Is it an idiom or something or was it something that started to mean that because of the cartoon? Like did donnerwetter have that meaning before Goofy used it? It just seems silly to say that to say Gosh or "Gorsh" if you want to say it like Goofy. I'm sad Donald Duck's intro song is in english even if the cartoon is in German. :(

I actually used to be made fun of because every time someone came to my room I was watching it in German. After I finished Alfred J Kwak it was like 2 or 3 months of watching ducktales. :lol

Edit: This cheered me up a lot more than it probably should have. :lol

Edit 2: Took so long to get used to Huey, Dewey, and Louie calling Uncle Scrooge Uncle Dagobert.

Alfred jodokus quack is such a great series.
They touched on so many important social issues!
Very fond memories of that show, probably the best german children's tv (or is it originally from the Netherlands)

Ya, I searched so hard to find DVDs of it while I was in Germany and just couldn't find them anywhere which made me kind of sad. It really was a fantastic kid's cartoon, especially with how many issues it dealt with that you can appreciate even when you're not a kid. Great series.

Edit: Ya, pretty positive it's from the Netherlands and then was brought to Germany shortly afterwards. All the things I could find were in Dutch.

I just recently realized that he is called Scrooge originally. I knew about Huey, Dewey and Louie though because of Silent Moebius. Lol

It's from the Netherlands yeah. I think I should watch it again some time. Don't think I got all the themes as a child.

Fettes Brot existiert net mehr, oder zumindest als ne zu nehmende Gruppe. Auf Fanta4 stehe ich nicht. Eins-Zwo gefällt mir sehr, ja schon, aber der rappt auch net mehr afaik... oder?

Nope, Fettes Brot und die Beginner haben sich aufgelöst (bzw. existieren nur noch auf dem Papier). Eins-Zwo haben sich auch aufgelöst, Rapper Dendemann macht aber seit einigen Jahren solo weiter.
