Is there an alternative to Wii Backup Manager for Mac OSX since WBFS Manager only works with wbfs formatted HDDs?
...
Yes, you can set up everything on the Mac. What you can't do is convert the ISO games and transfer them to your HDD/Pen since it requires software that isn't currently available to Mac, unfortunately. There are ways to rename the files and transfer them manually, though.
There is absolutely no use for backup managing software on the Wii except for piracy at this stage, especially if your drive isn't WBFS formatted. Also, there's no way without hardware like WODE to play GameCube games that you downloaded from the Internet, so that answer to ythe other question about doing that is also suspect. I might be missing something, so I will give you a chance to explain yourself before this gets taken to a mod. Please do so.

I'm sure this has been asked before but..Can you play Gamecube games region free with the same method? And is it possible to set up everything with a Mac? Thanks in advance.
Yes to both questions. The
region free techniques in the tutorial all support GameCube region free too.

Seriously at some point you're gonna have to tell us what you want in return. All this excellent work cannot go unrewarded. Unless you're already filthy rich, in which case, well, screw you

.
Heh, thanks

. There's only one thing I could really ask in return and that comes from people that have a PAL Wii that has never accessed the Wii Shop (which I doubt there's many of in here). That's because I'd have more people to do the Wii Ambassador program with. I have enough Wiis helped to get the Nintendo-published NES games on the Wii Shop for free, but need another 7 or so to get the SNES and N64 games too. If anybody's getting a new PAL Wii and wants to thank me, hit me up by PM.

So, what do I need to do to update from 4.1 or whatever the Trauma Team Firmware is to the latest?
From 4.1, all you have to do is upgrade using Nintendo's official update. Just make sure you update the HBC first, and you'll be good.

So initially I was planning on just installing HBC and Gecko OS for Xenoblade Chronicles on my US Wii because it seems, based on the Wiki, that it does less to the Wii internally than Configurable USB Loader. But after hearing everyone sing the praises of Cfg, I may go with that. I have some questions, though:
-Is there any increased risk of installing Cfg because I have a newer Wii (black, a model from last year)? I know the BootMii stuff is far less reliable on newer Wiis, and I don't want to end up in a situation where my Wii is irreversibly bricked. I'm not planning on installing BootMii because it seems like it's almost not worth it unless it's installed as boot2.
No there isn't. Everything in the tutorial is perfectly safe and has no chance of bricking the Wii.
-Do I really need Hermes' IOS222/223? The Wiki makes it seem awfully unnecessary.
Nope, unless your hard drive gives you trouble.
-Does Cfg have the same options as Gecko? I've only ever heard people talk about "forcing NTSC" with Gecko, so I'm wondering if there are enough options with Cfg to get the game playing on my ancient American television.
It depends on your TV. All you can do is give it a try. Cfg does have further options that give you a better chance of it working, though.
-Is it safe/normal to use the same USB drive I use for data backups for Wii game rips? I'm assuming the drive is NTFS formatted (I'll check later), but would there be any problems? If I just add those lines on config.txt or meta.xml, am I good to go?
No problems at all.
-Finally, after raving about the game to my brother, he's ready to pull the trigger on an import copy. The problem? He's in college, and he's rocking a travel-sized CRT with composite cables for his Wii. Is he pretty much out of luck, or is it a matter of chance whether or not the game will work on that setup? Would you have a better shot fooling around with Gecko or with Cfg?
Better with Cfg, but only slightly better. It is a matter of chance based on how good the TV is.
Sorry if these are stupid questions. I'm fairly comfortable with the idea of Letterbombing the HBC onto my Wii now, but I'm absolutely terrified that with all the IOS stuff (d2x, IOS236, potentially Hermes' IOS222/223) the Wii will be rendered unusable. Regardless, a big thanks to Clipper and the helpful folks on this thread, who got me past my first mental hurdles. :-/
Not stupid questions. Don't worry. Follow the tutorial and you won't be bricked.
