Yeah, it's unfortunately not a feature of every TV, even if you unlock its diagnostic mode.
Mine doesn't do it either.

If you followed the tutorial (i.e. not using 249/222 anymore) and have the homebrew channel up to date you can safely apply the disk update. It won't increase the version number, but it will update a couple ios and stub at least cios 249 (which you don't use anyway if you followed the tutorial).SoulPlaya said:Anyone?

d2x v2.2 for the slots 247 & 248 and Hermes v5.1 for 223 & 224. d2x doesn't seem to play nice with cfg usb loader on my Wii so I use Hermes for everything atm.SoulPlaya said:BTW, what is the latest cios that we should be using. It's almost immediate. Do a hard reset on the Wii (hold power button down) to switch it off and try opening the letter again.Nintendo-4Life said:So I'm trying to do this homebrew business, but it's not working! How long does it usually take when you open the letter for the Wii to be accessible again?

There's no good reason to upgrade, but it is safe to do so. Tp protect your homebrew installs, just go through and update everything to the current versions the tutorial recommends. They aren't deleted by any of the current updates.Unknown Soldier said:I'm still on firmware 4.2U. Is there any reason for me to upgrade to 4.3, and is there anything I need to do to protect my homebrew installs beforehand?
You're not meant to extract the zip directly. There's a sub-directory within the zip file called 'Cfg_USB_Loader70/inSDRoot' where you will find the two directories you need to copy into the SD root.pgtl_10 said:Okay I am trying to install the USB loader.
I downloaded Configurable USB Loader v70. I extracted the files and copied them to my SD card sd:/.
However, I do not see a sd:/usb-loader or sd:/apps/USBLoade folders as the steps say I would.
What did I do wrong?
You'll be fine. The guide and info you need is in the second post of the thread, but here it is again anyway as it's been a while:zazrx said:Hey guys, I just got a Wii and I'm loving it so far, reminds me of my childhood ^_^
Anyways, I all I really would want out of this homebrew stuff is to be able to play some S/NES games and stuff like that. Do they run good? I don't know if there's anything else cool to do with this, I read through the OP but didn't really find anything that interesting. Plus my Wii is 4.3U so I don't know if it's even possible. Got the Mario Kart bundle.
There are instructions that tell you how to get BootMii to automatically launch the HBC on the BootMii page.DotComa said:Small question..
I've followed the tutorial, everything went fine, i have my Gecko running, which is all I wanted.. but when I load I always go to the bootmii menu. I've changed the .ini to HBC, but still goes always to bootmii.
I know I can rename the bootmi folder so it goes straight to the wiimenu, but I'd like to go to HBC to load gecko...
Any suggestion?
Kamek said:Dire question, guys.
I modded my Wii a while back (about two years ago) and everything was fine and dandy, until I tried to update my IOS today. (Keep in mind the last time I messed around with my Wii was a while ago, so I was a bit rusty on everything). I ended up not being able to load from my USB loader GX (I run my backed up games off a HDD). Since that happened, I figured I'd just go to my backup in BootMii (cycling through it to the gear button --> hitting the red arrow) and when I tried to recover via that method, my Wii then got black screened. I can access BootMii when I turn on my Wii, however when I try to access the homebrew channel or or the Wii main menu, I get black screened. Is there anything I could do to get things fixed? It seems everything bad started happening after I tried to restore via the aforementioned method. At least when USB loader didn't work, I could access HBC and the Wii main menu. If anyone would be able to help, either by PM or here, I'd be REALLY appreciative. I have Zelda pre-ordered and if I don't fix this by Zelda time when my brother comes home from college during Thanksgiving weekend, it'll really suck. Thanks so much in advance.
Clipper said:Perhaps the restore didn't take. Try it again.
If that fails, you can try to use BootMii to run Dop-Mii (you can navigate to and launch .dols within BootMii) and update all your Nintendo IOSes to their latest versions without any patches. If that doesn't work either, then it sounds like your hard drive might be dead or corrupt, and unless you have another backup of your own Wii somewhere, there's not really anything you can do.
I guess you could also try using BootMii to run the HBC Installer, though. If you get that going, it might allow you to launch the HBC directly, which could then be used to launch loaders to play games from and stuff.

You would need to put the respective boot.dol or boot.elf files onto the SD card and then use the SD navigation option to select to start those apps. Not all apps like being started this way, though. You would get Dop-Mii from wiibrew.org.Kamek said:I've tried the restore quite a few times. I still have the nand file backed up on my computer, tried replacing it, still no-go.
Sorry for the newbie questions. Where in boot-mii can I run this "dop-mii"?
The second alternative seems a bit easier, but where would the HBC Installer be in BootMii? Would that be the SD card icon?
It sounds like he has evil non-Nintendo IOSes installed in the Nintendo slots on the Wii. The easiest way to fix that is to perform a normal Wii upgrade using Nintendo's update code. Using Dop-Mii to upgrade the IOSes to their latest Nintendo versions (it has a technique to upgrade everything, I believe) would also probably work.hardcastlemccormick said:So I recently hacked my own Wii, which was effortless. I'm trying to upgrade my roommate's Wii to the same level and it's been a nightmare.
He was running old apps. I intended to upgrade them all to the highest possible so he can use CFG, but before that I needed to upgrade Homebrew Channel. Well, the HackMii installer refuses to run. "There is no usable or vulnerable IOS installed on this Wii."
It does not matter what HowTo I follow. It does not matter how many IOS' I reinstall (without patches!) using DOP-mii. Whatever my roommate did to his poor, unassuming console in the past has made it absolutely unresponsive to any change I make to it. In the end, I flashed it with his NAND backup, only to find that it had the same issue. I haven't messed with the flashed result much at this point because my will is sapped dry.
I've loaded the HackMii installer through BootMii one last time, and by gum I just have had it. If anyone has any ideas, please offer them, because at this point I'm descending into madness. Before I NAND flashed this thing, I uninstalled every IOS stub, uninstalled everything over IOS80, and upgraded everything that remained to the most recent version, and still the HackMii installer refused to run, giving me that exact same error. I see no reason or logic to this. This is the installer.log for HackMii:
EDIT: I don't have any lines after the installer.log ends, proving that GAF hates me too.
It should work unless you are missing a vital IOS. Have you installed IOS58? There's an installer that's used as par of the Cfg Forwarder tutorial that might get it working. Also try installing the disc.NintendoGal said:So I finally tried to plug in Skyward Sword and it won't play through CFG via the disc slot. Gives me an error -2. I assume I'll have to update something in order to play through that without having to update my Wii?
I know it hasn't released yet, but I do have a copy, so I figured I'd ask here since folks seem to be knowledgeable.

My bad, it will only run .elf binaries, not .dol ones. ANd only specific ones. Did you try the BootMii based instructions on the launch page?Kamek said:It's like nothing will load from BootMii for me. IT always gives me a failure to boot from the .dol file when I try to run it from the SD card option. No installers run either.
Can my Wii be bricked even though I see BootMii on start-up every time? I swear, as soon as I tried to "restore" from the NAND file, everything broke for me.
It is possible to do NAND emulation on a hard drive using the backup of another Wii. The process is a little complicated and I don't know if BootMii is enough to get it going, but that might be a solution. I'm pretty sure there's still no way to install another Wii's backup onto your normal NAND, though.Kamek said:Before I try the launch method, is it theoretically possible to obtain a NAND backup from elsewhere and have my wii backup from that one? I guess the backup I have is corrupted because every time i back up from it, when I try to launch from it, I still am black screened.
It depends what you do now and how it breaks. If you make a BootMii backup before doing anything else (like running the HBC), then yes, you can remove all trace later on by restoring that backup, then deleting BootMii using the same installer you install it with. That's if your Wii still lets you restore that back up (memory faults and so on might not).Kaiser_Glider said:Hey guys I got a quick question that I'm sure you can answer.
I'm planning on modding my Wii following the tutorial that is constantly being recommended in this thread, I think I got that part down since the wiki page is pretty simple to understand and I still don't quite get some of the stuff that is mentioned in there but I'll figure it out. Anyways, that's not why I'm here, the question I have is this one: let's say my Wii suddenly stops working properly for whatever reason (not because of the mod, mind you) and I have to send it in for a repair, is it possible to erase all traces of Homebrew so Nintendo fixes my console?
That's pretty much it, I think, haha. The reason I'm kind of paranoid of my Wii getting busted for whatever reason is because I have had to send it in twice now, one for a broken disc drive and the other for corrupted memory, this one being the most recent, so I'm kinda worried it might break again in the future (though they sent me a replacement Wii with this latest repair).
So yeah, thanks and I'd appreciate it if someone can answer my question. By the way this is my first post ever on this NeoGAF forum you guys have here, I've been reading the boards for years now but never really felt the need to post anything, I'm more of reader than a poster.![]()
All of the stuff you want is covered in the tutorial. You no longer need any particular games; there's a working, SD-based softmod for 4.3 Wiis again and it includes instructions on how to avoid disc and online updates.nicoga3000 said:Hi all - so seeing the Xenoblade topic has really forced me to want to go back to my hacked Wii. I soft-modded it because I didn't understand how to update it/not get screwed with newer stuff that I wanted to buy. So here I am again...
I've bought a copy of Lego Indiana Jones from my first run at this (Indiana PWNS is still a working hack, right?), so I think I've got what I need there. What I'm worried about is just how to keep my system updated without worrying about new games screwing me up. And how to play Xenoblade...But I'll figure that out eventually.
So with that, is there a good resource that makes it a bit easier to understand how to keep your system from updating and how to play the latest releases without fear of it overwriting your softmod? OR even how to keep it from doing so when you connect to the internet? I have a few games I've bought on WiiWare/VC, so I'd love to not have those screw me up either, and if something new comes out that I want, I want to be able to connect and grab it without it overwriting.
Much thanks to anyone who can help make this stuff more clear!![]()
Clipper said:On Skyward Sword, don't ask questions until the game has actually released, guys. If you want to be prepared, just run through the tutorial again to update everything.
I'm fairly sure it works totally fine, provided you have all the homebrew stuff up to date according to the tutorial. You might also need to be at firmware 4.3.Linkzg said:Is it cool to ask questions now that it's out in Europe?
I'm just wondering if it has any issues when installed to a HD. If not, I'll just run it through Gecko. If neither works, I'll figure out another way to make it work. I just don't want to be sitting around on sunday figuring this stuff out like I did with Galaxy 2.
