Anyone uses
Western Digital Extern HDD My Passport Essential 320GB

or perhaps 250 GB one? I'm afraid of spindown problem that some WD drives have (the one where drive spins down and game freezes). The one I have now (Seagate Desktop) works but uses external power supply and I have to reconnect it to wall socket every time I reboot Wii, is really annoying :)

Just for the record, I'm having a great experience with my 160 Iomega Prestige, not a single spindown problem, and just today I finally made work the Wi-Fi playing via Ultimate USB Loader!, 100.000 stars right away!

Greetings!

I have that one (320GB) and just paused RE4 for more than 30 minutes then started it without a problem just to check for you.

So my sister, after having labor complications, is bed ridden in the hospital and was going out of her mind with boredom. I have a 1 tb HDD full of tv shows and movies and such that I keep connected to the PC hooked up to my TV, but the hospital only has old CRT tvs.

So I brought my wii to her room and installed mplayer wii and connected my HDD to it.

Now she's not as bored.

Man hacking your wii is handy.

I really appreciate it mate!!! Thanks a bunch!

*edit*

Is it that hard to get online to work with USB Loader? (Haven't tried but I guess my little brother will want to continue playing Mario Kart online)

I haven't tried since I got my HDD but it downloaded my box art without a problem. Looks like as long as you're using a wireless connection then it doesn't suck to be you. ;)

It seems that it just works from all accounts here. Only via a wireless connection, though.

I installed USB Loader over the weekend and am loving it, but there's no way I'd risk going online right now. Nintendo has been detecting and banning cheaters, and the way USB Loader affects load times, I wouldn't be surprised if they can detect it too.

I'm probably just paranoid, but better safe than sorry.

Wow, nice, I didn't know that.
Did Nintendo release an official statement about bannings and do we have any raw numbers?

I'm glad Nintendo is finally acting up a bit, I'd love if they did the same with the DS, playing a popular enough game online is a waste of time unless you can link up with friends.

Haven't been keeping up with Wii homebrew lately because besides the emulators I hadn't seen interesting things in months, but a USB loader? I shall check out the dummy guide as soon as I get home! Thanks Stumpa, looks like something even I could comprehend :D

No official statements about it, but there's a lot of reports from the cheaters themselves about getting banned. Unfortunately, the bans are easily circumvented, but it has likely stopped a lot of the stupid hackers without much clue about what they are doing.

Any progress been made on being able to install HBC after having already updated to 4.0?
Nope. If there is news, you can be pretty sure the title of the thread will get changed pretty quickly.

So, I followed Stumkapow "tutorial for dummies", dowgraded my Wii and decided to use the system updater 4.0.

After all that ,when I tried to play Excitebots the Wii System Update icon showed up. Does that mean my system still isn´t 4.0?
I am afraid of doing everything again if I officially update, so I am a little skeptical...

Ok, I tried to play this game with Gecko OS but the infamous #002 error showed up. I downloaded the unnoficial version so I could play it and it worked, but I read that the rebooter function would only work using the 1.8 version.

Anyway, even using the 1.8 version Excitebots and Disaster won´t run using the rebooter... I read this:

*Rebooter now works on 3.3v2, 3.4, and 4.0 (if you patch IOS 36 with trucha bug)
*Multidol games work through Gecko's game loader, rebooter is no longer required for them
* To ensure games are fully functional the game loader now uses the IOS requested by the game (as a result there is no 002 error, that error is due to game loaders booting a game with the wrong IOS)
* If a game requests an IOS that you don't have, the game's update partition will be searched for the IOS and the option to install the IOS will be given if it is found

But I still can´t make the rebooter function work... :(

Sounds like it is just the IOS55 update then. It should be safe to accept the update as long as your Wii is the same region as ExciteBots.

I tried to load my USB loader with an Iomega Minimax (1 TB), with 2 partitions, the first on Mac OS X extended journal and the other one was FAT32, but now formatted to wbfs. I can read it in Mac and Windows WBFS, but the Usb loader (7.4) can't seem to read it :/.

I have no problems inserting an USB stick and format it with Usb Loader, becuase it's recognized on my Wii. Do you think the problem is that I formatted the disk with WBFS manager instead of USB loader, or the fact that it was originally a Mac OS X extended disc only.

EDIT: I'm using 4.0 but I think have installed ios36 correctly.

I'm trying to use the twilight hack on a european wii (with 3.2e).
But the savegames i got from http://hbc.hackmii.com/download/ dont' show up in the wii savegame sd menu.
(I also tried the beta2 ones with the same result)
If I replace one of the savegames with my original zelda one it shows up just fine.

Anybody got an idea what I could be doing wrong?

There isn't a way to downgrade my 4.0 Wii is there? I installed the Homebrew channel onto my 3.2 or whatever, then updated and accidently deleted it :/ - is there anyway of getting it back?!

First, check that you made the second partition into a primary partition. If it is and it still doesn;t work, try unformatting the WBFS partition and then try to format it with Ultimate USB Loader 7.4. Apparently it also prefers the first partitions on the disc to be the WBFS one, so try switching the order of the partitions. If none of this works, your drive could just be incompatible.

Follow the instructions carefully and it should work. Make sure you have the savegames in the correct directory on the SD card.

There are ways, but you need a way to access homebrew, which it appears you have deleted. Keep checking back, though, as BootMii will solve your problem.

I followed CTLance's instructions in post 368.

1. I formatted the sd-card with fat16. (it is a 16MB Panasonic)
2. Copied my Zelda savefile from my wii onto the sd-card. and deleted it from the wii.
3. Saved the savefile on my pc hdd and deleted it from the sd.
4. Downloaded twilight-hack-v0.1-beta1.zip and the_homebrew_channel-1.0.1.tar.gz .
5. Copied the "private" folder inside twilight-hack-v0.1-beta1.zip and the "boot.dol" inside the_homebrew_channel-1.0.1.tar.gz\the_homebrew_channel-1.0.1.tar\the_homebrew_channel-1.0.1\ to the root of the sd-card. I ignored the "wiiload" folder which was next to boot.dol.
6. I put the sd-card into the wii and went to savegame-sdcard screen which shows the sd-card but no savegames on it.
7. Put the sd-card back in the pc and replaced the "data.bin" inside <sd-root>\private\wii\title\rzdp\ with the one from my original zelda savegame.
8. Back in the wii one Zelda savegame showed up on the sd-card and wich could be copied back onto the wii without problem.
9. I redownloaded the twilight-hack-v0.1-beta1.zip from http://hbc.hackmii.com/download/ and started again from step 5. Same result.
10. I formatted the sd-card with SD Card formatter. Put the stuff back on. Still no savegame visible.

Does anyone have an alternative download for the twilight-hack-v0.1-beta1.zip ?

Edit: Whatever it was that I did wrong, using Wii Brew worked just fine. :)

Edit2: And now I got the next problem, after the line
"Found boot.dol!"
I'm getting a huge amount of error codes and then it hangs up with:
Failed to read boot.dol (-1), reading boot.elf:
start cluster = 0002
start cluster = 000e
start cluster = 0038
Failed to read boot.elf (-1)!
No code found to load, hanging.

WiiBrew wiki said:
If you get an error such as Failed to read boot.elf (-1), your SD card may not be formatted as FAT. Try reformatting your SD card with the Official SD Card Format Tool.

I reformatted the SD card with every avaible combination of options in the Official SD Card Format Tool. And I still get the error codes.

Unfortunatly this is the only non SDHC I have.
Anyone got an idea other than changing the SD card?

Edit3:
Went out bought a 2GB SD card - everything works just fine :)

I am having an interesting problem, I got my Monster Hunter G Starter Pack today

I can boot Monster Hunter G just fine, when I try to boot up the Tri demo it just goes to a black screen and will not load anything.

I have tried Gecko 1.07, 1.07 Error 2 Fix and the new 1.08

Anybody have any clues, other imports work fine and MHG works great so what is up with the demo?

Going to pick up madworld today. This update it does, can I run it without messing up my homebrew or should I use GeckOS?

MadWorld should only update the IOS, it does not produce a full firmware upgrade that I know of.

And I found out my problem, apparently MH3 Demo uses IOS 55 and for some reason my system either did not have it or something was wrong with it.

I found it easily on the net and now all works great

I bought WD My Passport Essentials today, works great but I have one question. After I turned Wii off using Wiimote I could hear and feel HD still working/spinning. Is that normal/safe? Should I turn Wii off using power button instead?

Doesn't happen to me, but it should be fine. May or may not be related, but make sure that WiiConnect 24 Standby is off.

My entire game collection now sits on my Wii (HDD).
i have channel loaders for each one, my Wii menu looks awesome, and i can play any of MY games at the touch of a button..........whoever allows me to do this next gen, gets my cash!!

You know, that sounds awesome. PM please? ;(

What does the OP mean when it says downgrading from 3.4->3.2 isn't necessary with latest versions of twilight hack and HBC? Can you install usbloader on a 3.4 w/latest HBC without downgrading or installing the IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad?

So I modded my US Wii (already had my JPN Wii modded) and one thing that is WIERD is that when my WD Passport Essential 320gb is plugged into my US Wii the power light is OFF except when I turn on the Wii, the hard drive light turns on with it and when I turn off the Wii the hard drive light turns off.

But on my JPN Wii as long as the hard drive is plugged into the USB on the back of the Wii...it's ALWAYS LIT (always on?). Even when the Wii is off.

I don't think it matters either way but it sure is strange.

Do you have anything like Wii Connect turned on in the options or anything like that? I think there's also a standby setting. Mine would stay on till I turned all those options off.

That was it! Thanks.

Well I decided to try to install 4.0 official on my JPN Wii (if it bricks I can always just use my US wii). Let's see if it works. I have HBC, Ciosrev10, and ISO60patched installed and I'm doing the official update to 4.0J from 3.4Jfixed. Hope nothing bricks.

Just popping into this thread to say that I followed Stumkapow's "tutorial for dummies" and now have the Ultimate USB Loader on my 4.0 Wii. Thanks Stumkapow!

I've only tried AC:CF with it so far, but that works wonderfully. I love that the USB Loader will download the cover for you :)

has anyone gotten the monster hunter 3 demo to boot yet? I just got mine in the mail and i think i might be freaking out. :)

Any solutions?

Thx!

my homebrew channel and monster hunter g work fine, but im also running the latest nintendo firmware ( 4.0).

Am i screwed?

i did some checking of my system. I have the 4.0u system update and the wiibrew menu says i have ios 36. How do i go about installing ios 55 without bricking my wii?

Thx for the help.

I'm not sure it's OK to ask this here, but I'm going to give it a go anyway: Can anyone explain how to make the Ultimate USB Loader a channel? I'd rather access it that way than through HBC, if possible...

I would like to know as well, if not possible any hints will be appreciated!

For installing as a channel, most of the USB Loaders use something called Forwarder. You might want to look it up. The USB Loader Releases page on GBAtemp also has links to premade forwarder channels, but the Wiki seems to be down right now.

I suggest running the update from Madworld, Kororinpa: Marble Saga, Broken Sword, ExciteBots or one of the many other recently released games. Just make sure you are using a disc you bought with the same region as your Wii. It is possible to find IOS55 installers elsewhere, but I wouldn't risk going with them if I were you.

Also, Gecko OS 1.7 with the 002 fix should allow you to launch the game just fine.

Has anyone tried WiiSX, the playstation emulator for the wii? If I could store all my playstation games on an SDHC card I'd be a pretty happy person.

Does Boomblox not work with USB Loader 1.5?

It says it's ok on here:
http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php/USB_Launcher_v1

But I just get a black screen that locks up the system. Mine might be a special case though because the reason I was putting it on USB Loader in the first place is my Wii has trouble reading the disc and sometimes the disc skips and the cursor goes flying, so I thought I'd remedy it by ripping it to the hard drive.

All my other games work on usb loader 1.5, but just Boomblox has a black screen. I dunno if it was a bad rip I did or if the people who said it works ok on that list were using an older loader where it did indeed work.

*edit: tried with 1.1 and same thing. It says booting game and then a black screen that locks up the Wii. Could I be missing some IOS file needed to play it? Does that even make sense if the game works normally with the disc?

I'm sending my Wii in for repairs and moved the Homebrew Channel onto SD card so Nintendo doesn't come to my house and murder me. Are there any other traces of the channel I should remove aside from the channel itself? Also, I should be able to plop the channel right back on the Wii from SD Card without any problems, right?
