Actually, no. There is no known way to play the game normally without a disc.GaimeGuy said:you'll probably need to develop some kind of patch for the ISO if you want to play MPT normally without a disk.
As long as the disc is from the same region as your system, yes it's safe.Htown said:so I put Guitar Hero 5 in my disc tray and the picture changed to a Wii System Update icon. Does anyone know anything about this? Is this update safe?
There's a link further up on this page. click the pic of mario.jrricky said:My wii is back from repairs now after a long hiatus (my wii seems brand new too, they replaced almost all the parts). I want to get back into the homebrew scene but I am weary of installing stuff on my Wii. I need to get more info on the thing I read about booting stuff off sd cards, can someone link me to it?
*tips hat*Htown said:There's a link further up on this page. click the pic of mario.
Should only the private directory and the boot.elf be in SD:/ and leave the hackmii folder on the desktop or something?jrricky said:I must be doing something wrong...I think I tried all the bootmii versions... :-/
By updating and formatting a used system, then you can pretty much do anything. You just want to make sure that the seller doesn't have a semi-brick. Make it a condition of purchase that you have to be able to access the Wii settings menu.Speevy said:This might be a silly question, but in terms of starting from scratch, is it safer to buy a new or used Wii?
What I mean is what are the chances of it already having something on it?
VOOK said:Guys 4.2 is out and it's bad...
Version 4.2 of the System Menu was released on September 28, 2009. It currently removes the Homebrew Channel, BootMii, all cIOS versions, and BaNNeRBoMB.
It also updates all the IOS and adds new ones.
Mejilan said:Hmm, I wonder. Does it remove Bootmii from the Boot2, or only the IOS version?
Because if the Boot2 version persists, then that might (should?) be the way to get all homebrew up and running again...
mandiller said:There are changes to the boot2 in the 4.2 update supposedly. So that would mean the end for bootmii.
Clipper said:Phwoar. Time to update the tutorial! So Indiana Pwns is still active, I guess. Watch for there to be huge sales on Lego Indiana Jones in a few days!
My guess is the USB loaders got their attention.Mejilan said:WHOA!!
That's easily the most severe stance they've taken against homebrew!
No sweat, I've PMed Dragona. I wonder what she'll think...Clipper said:Let's get this at the start of the page:
DO NOT UPDATE YOUR WII. 4.2 IS NOT SAFE
We need a thread title change...

Friend says older disc games run ever-so-slightly faster. Can we get a verification on this?Mejilan said:Well, it looks like they added IOS56, IOS57, and that SysMenu 4.2 runs on the brand-new IOS70.
Not sure what BENEFIT that gives the end-user... probably none. So far, it seems like this update is heavily slanted towards fixing security issues, not adding features. So far.

If they'd only remove region locks there would be far less reason to waste resources on this.

Speevy said:So they have to pretty much start from scratch with all of this homebrew or is there a way to work around this update?
HUELEN10 said:Oh FUCK, what does this mean of the future of DSi homebrew? I don't want to have to buy a 2nd (or 3rd) system to play my imports.
;_;
VOOK said:It's Nintendo man, there is no benefit.
There are currently two methods that may not be blocked. One involves Indiana Pwns. The other apparently only works on NTSC Wiis and needs SSBB (called SmashStack).Speevy said:So they have to pretty much start from scratch with all of this homebrew or is there a way to work around this update?
It's cool, for all we know it could still be bootable via Gecko.viciouskillersquirrel said:*sigh*
I was looking forward to NSMB Wii as well :'(
Clipper said:All cIOS slots used by USB Loaders are overwritten, although it seems IOS250, which is installed when you install IOS249, may have survived. Cfg Loader supports IOS250 so we'll probably know if it still works after the update soon.
Wait a minute, are you sure you are on 4.2?!?!? If so, then we've got conflicting reports! Could you confirm that you have 4.2 for us, your HBC should have been deleted if so.jrricky said:What? I just got into to the homebrew scene again today....and I updated today...but the installs still worked...only thing that isnt loading in the homebrew channel is the usb loader for some reason...
I'm certain of that, but it's nice to have stuff just play, you know?HUELEN10 said:It's cool, for all we know it could still be bootable via Gecko.
Damn, just in the nick of time! :lol You are one lucky dude.jrricky said:EDIT: just got the update message O_O. Sorry for the misunderstanding, i updated earlier yesterday (just realized that its past midnight here :3)to 4.1...
