That means playing GCN games on Wii's USB drive, but it also means migrating to SNEEK, which isn't exactly easy. I'm really busy right now so I don't have time to do a tutorial, unfortunately.
It requires SNEEK, so that makes it quite difficult to do. However, we might be able to make it so that you can use Cfg to launch SNEEK and autoload the selected game, as well as to rip the games into the correct format. No guarantees yet as it is really unclear what will happen.whitehawk said:Siiiick. Obviously not practical to use right now, but awesome news.
This will eventually be implemented in configurable usbloader right?
You are meant to remove the BannerBomb file from your SD card once you have the HBC installed. Delete the sd:/private/wii/title/aktn/ directory from your SD card.G.O.O. said:So I just updated my shop channel to download a demo. I installed the demo on my SD card, played and wanted to delete it. Problem : when I access to the SD card from the main menu, bannerbomb automatically asks me if I want to launch it. I answer no, then try to delete the demo. But before it's finished, bannerbomb launches (!) and when I tried to return to the SD menu, my wii freezes.
I'm a bit worried right now, even if everything else seems to work.
With the default settings, it does require you to have a drive plugged in. However, you can get it to work without a drive too. Simply change "device=usb" in config.txt to "device=sdhc" with either the Configurator or manually editing the file. Then Cfg will launch properly as it will mount the SD for the games instead of the USB.Ecrofirt said:Just for confirmation:
Does Configurable USB Loader fail to start if you don't have a USB HD plugged in?
I followed the GAF wiki last night and installed everything required for Configurable USB Loader, but when I opened it it gave me a 30 second countdown and then shut itself down.
I'd like a bit of protection for discs prompting me to update, and the Wiki says that Configurable USB Loader can stop this.
Since I didn't have a USB HDD handy, I thought I'd pop in Metal Slug Anthology and see how things went.
Just making sure that this is the expected behavior and that I haven't goofed anything up.

Seeing as you don't have a drive, you might as well add "button_+ = boot_disc" to config.txt at the same time. That removes a few button pushes you would otherwise need to access the feature.
You can upgrade, but if you prefer to not go through the hassle Gecko works pretty well. You just have to take a few extra steps each time you want to launch a disc with an update.Wray said:I've been outta the loop for awhile. I'm running 4.1 I think, it might be 4.0 still however. I modded my Wii during early summer 09. Basically, all I want to do is play some of the newer games like New Super Mario, Mario Galaxy, Kirby, and Zelda when it comes out next year.
Do I need to upgrade anything to play these? Either the official firmware or the modded stuff. I dont really care about the usb loader stuff, I mainly just modded my wii for emulators. I simply want to buy the retail disc of these games, put the disc and play it without it bricking or my system.
To what? The Wii? Is this meant to be a joke?Chittagong said:They should port the Wii emulator since it can do Super Mario Galaxy in 720p and antialiasing
You definitely need to upgrade the HBC. After that, you can either upgrade the Wii normally or perform the steps to avoid disc updates.Wray said:I've been outta the loop for awhile. That would be awesome, Clipper! I know there's no guarantee it will work or will even be worth the programming time to make, but put me down for a vote of encouragement. You guys do excellent work with Cfg, and this would make it just that much greater!Clipper said:It requires SNEEK, so that makes it quite difficult to do. Actually, he missed something big, probably forgetting that AC:R is PAL only. For your situation, you first need to own either Super Smash Bros. Brawl or Lego Indiana Jones.metsallica said:Not difficult at all! Money can be exchanged for goods and services!
OK, first off, you will probably lose all data on the iPod, so make sure you never want to use it as an iPod ever again (recovery is possible, but prepare for the worst).ConradCervantes said:Okay folks, maybe you all can help me out somehow. I've read the wiki, searched on Google, but no dice. Is there a way I can use my 80GB iPod Classic 5G to back up my Wii games? I've seen people here and all over the internet have seen success using iPods, but no matter how many instructional methods I read, I can't seem to get it working. The most I know is that I have to create a partition for the iPod, but I can't even seem to do that right. If somebody could help out a lost soul I would be very thankful.
Follow the rest of the instructions in the tutorial to install Cfg on your Wii and it should work.ConradCervantes said:I have three more, including an iPod Touch and an iPhone, so losing its ability to play music doesn't faze me much. And I just restored it to factory settings, and looking in "My Computer" it lists the iPod as already being in FAT32.
Edit: Just tried the second tool you listed, anything else I should do now?
Yes, try some other bases. Also try the -222 version. Also, make sure you are using a recent version of Cfg, such as v60.Shafto said:Since updating from about Rev17 of Waninkoko's cIOS, my drive has had spin-down issues. Thing is, I never had them before. I could use a forwarder to boot up Cfg, and had absolutely no issues.
Since updating, it comes up 'Mounting USB Drive'....'OK!', and then nothing happens. I've been getting round this by just loading HBC first, and changing the active mount to USB, which spins it up, before firing up Cfg.
It's getting a bit annoying though - could it be the Base IOS i'm using with cIOS?
I'm using base 56 at the moment, but I keep seeing lots of different opinions on the best base (56/38 being the most common).
Maybe I should try 17 again and see if it works, or just see if can do something with the spindown settings on my USB Drive. Just seems strange that it was working fine for about a year at least, and now it's not working as it was.
Hmm... Perhaps try making sure you have IOS222 installed and use the -222 version of Cfg (instructions are on the installation page). Also try plugging in the iPod during the countdown instead of beforehand.ConradCervantes said:Tried it, but the program gave me a 30 second countdown while trying to mount the device, then gave me an error code (ret= -1). Seems like my Wii doesn't like my iPod, or I'm still missing something.

I just attributed that to message board snark. Thanks a ton, Clipper. That wiki is amazing!Clipper said:Actually, he missed something big, probably forgetting that AC:R is PAL only. For your situation, you first need to own either Super Smash Bros. Brawl or Lego Indiana Jones.
If you have that, follow the instructions for installing homebrew so that you'll be able to load import games here and you'll be all good to run AC:R.

What was the original waninkoko base?
What are people using now as their main base?
Yeah it ended up working for me eventually.insin said:I'm using that version of WiiSX with a CC Pro too - I have to go into the settings every time I start it and manually tell it I'm using a control pad. Sometimes it doesn't seem to take, but you can tell when it's right as the on-screen button mappings will change.

You want to have an NTFS partition on your hard drive and add the following options to config.txt with the Configurator or editing config.txt:
partition=ntfs1
ntfs_write=1
install_partitions=iso
Cfg will then rip your games directly to .iso files on the drive itself. No extra tools needed to convert them.

1) Yes you canEcrofirt said:Two questions regarding that:
1) I have an existing 250GB NTFS drive with data on it. Can I use it as is without losing the data on it?
2) When it rips to .iso, is it a regular .iso, or has it been compressed/scrubbed (or whatever the term is) to remove dummy data and reduce file size?
whitehawk said:Well my hard drive wouldn't work with CFG USB loader when it was NTFS anyway. Using a PC program to convert it is no hassle it all, it does a great job.
However, pointless for me. :lol I just ran Super Mario Galaxy and I'm getting 16-17fps at 480p :lol
I need a new PC.
Why isn't this the default? I put it to texture, and went from 17fps to 43 for Wii Sports.richisawesome said:Super Mario Galaxy 2 needs a beast of a rig to run at anything above 40fps.
Give NSMBW a go. Make sure you have render to texture (not ram) turned on, you'll get near 60fps in HD easily.
