I'm just checking to see if anyone can confirm, do we know if the WiiU transfer is going to mess with the HBC at all, have anyone tested it out yet?
I'll be interested in knowing the answer to this question as well. All I know so far is that shop access is required to download the transfer tool, so I'll probably need to dig up that homebrew app that circumvents the required firmware update I'd otherwise be subjected to since I haven't used my Wii in over a year.I'm just checking to see if anyone can confirm, do we know if the WiiU transfer is going to mess with the HBC at all, have anyone tested it out yet?
I just completed a system transfer from a homebrew-enabled Wii. I'll provide what details I can. Relatively speaking, this was a lightly-used Wii with lightly-used homebrew. I didn't have much to lose if the process happened to fuck up my soft-modded system, so I figured I might as well be the guinea pig for GAF.
My Wii system details:
- Wii system menu 4.3 (latest version)
- Wii Shop version 21 (latest version, released about a week or two ago, required for system transfer)
- Homebrew Channel (latest version, updated it last night in preparation)
- BootMii version 1.3 (installed to boot2)
- Riivolution patching app (only homebrew app I still have; I basically just used it for custom TvC soundtracks)
Transfer process details:
- Everything that can be transferred will be transferred. You can't pick and choose, and you can't move or copy games back to the original Wii system after you complete the process because the content licenses will be moved to your new Wii U console. Save files that aren't locked to the system can still be moved around freely and copied back to your old system.
- The transfer process seems to ignore homebrew applications entirely. Not only was the Homebrew Channel not transferred (as should be expected), it remains intact on my original system. BootMii still seems to function as normal. I can still launch the one homebrew app I have and it appears to work fine.
- System-locked save files (such as Super Smash Bros Brawl) WILL be transferred, and it will now be locked to your new Wii U. If Gamecube controller ports are important to you, this may be a point worth considering. If you are capable of stripping out the system-lock on the original save via homebrew, I recommend trying that and then saving a backup copy of the save file on an SD card, then copying it back to your original Wii after the transfer process completes. Not sure if it would work, or if the transfer process would ignore tampered save files entirely, but it's worth a shot if that's important to you.
- Save files from imported Wii games WILL be transferred. My save file for the JP version of Sin & Punishment 2 made the jump.
That's exactly what BootMii does, and I have heard of it working just fine. This would also restore your saves to solve the SSBB problem mentioned in that post. Note that if you do restore in this manner and start using your games on both systems, then it is a sort of piracy, so I certainly don't advocate it.I'm not sure, but is there a way to backup everything on my Wii (like BootMii) so once I do the transfer I can restore everything onto my Wii. That way I have my data on both systems?
Oh, goodness. I'm trying to do a safe update to the shop channel so that I can give Nintendo some of my hard-earned money to download a likely pretty terrible game, but
I don't have a Windows computer, so I cannot get the "boot2v4" file needed for a full, safe upgrade.
When trying the Wii Shop Update, which would bypass a full system update, the link to "dop_shop" is on megaupload, which no longer exists. Is there another source for this tool? I'm hunting around for it on my own, of course, but help would be appreciated.
Are there any other routes I can take? I will of course try to get at a Windows machine to get a copy of boot2v4, but if there is any way to bypass this, I'd appreciate hearing about it.
edit: Hmmm, the upgrade faq seems to suggest that doing a recent official update will be pretty safe and (probably?) won't wipe out HBC. I have BootMii installed, so maybe it's fine to just go straight ahead with that?
edit: Seems like that worked, though I'll have to reinstall some Custom IOSes to get the USB loader working.
Too late now, but the way I did it was use NUS Downloader to download IOS62 + new Shop Channel from Nintendo's server and package them into wads, then install the wads manually on the Wii. What you did was fine, though.
So in my quest to transfer my Wii shit to my Wii U, I've come across error 32017 when trying to run the system update (to get the shop updated so I can get the transfer tool).
I've already made me a NAND backup with BootMii (boot2), but the system update always errors out with 32017.
I've got whoknowswhat firmware version (4.2?) and HBC version (?) and a hodgepodge of cIOSes and whatnot.
What should I do?
Do you have PriiLoader installed? Boot up the system using the Reset button to find out. There is an option in PriiLoader that will block all System Updates, no matter what.

You update the HBC so it isn't deleted by the update. It wouldn't cause the error. Have you perhaps used StartPatch to block updates at some point in the past?
The methods as specified directly in the tutorial don't work, but there are methods. There's a few posts from others above that clearly show you can get a manual update of the Shop going.
Before you try that, I'd try Dop-Mii's updating method (with a NAND backup just in case). It might stil work and fix whatever is stopping the official update from working.
If the language option for Chinese Wiis doesn't have an English selection, your only choice is to region change the Wii, which is a tad dangerous. My friend has a Wii on 4.1C with the Homebrew Channel working. I was wondering if there is a way to update this system without using an SD card. I don't own one. I have a MINI SD card but I don't have an SD to MiniSD Converter, except for USB ones.
So do I need to find an SD card or is it possible?
Another thing is, he bought a Chinese Wii(I live in China). I'm wondering if it's possible to change the system language from Chinese to English. Either through the Wii system itse;f or through some homebrew means.
Thanks to anyone that can help.
You won't be able to get it into a factory state without doing a lot of work. Your better bet is to just be honest and sell it as hacked as removing every trace of the hacking is virtually impossible.I haven't used my homebrew'd wii in like a year and I have no idea what exact shit is even installed on it, but I wanna clear it back as close to factory state as possible so I can sell it now that I got a Wii U. Any clear instructions out there?

As for updating, just update normally via the official update method provided by Nintendo. No SD card needed and it's harmless.
I'm not able to provide instructions, but they are out there. Be very careful, though. So the update 4.3 won't destroy the Homebrew Channel?
And I want to change the region. I just backed up his Wii with the .nand from bootmii. So I'm ok with that and he wants me to do it for him anyways.
Use Dop-Mii to reinstall Nintendo's MIOS.Some questions, good sirs.
1. Could anyone detail the process of how to uninstall dios-mios? Actually, I think you can boot gamecube from disc channel with the latest version (just worked for me!). But I just want to know how to remove it anyway.
Upgrade away.2. Im on system firmware 4.2. but I kind of want that official YouTube app. Is it still smart to stay on lower firmwares or can I just go ahead and upgrade? Edit: seems like you were just talking about it
Perhaps this is a stupid question, but now that the Wii U is out I'm thinking about transferring my stuff over and using my Wii as a homebrew test bed. If I do so, are there tools to change the region? I'd love to finally be able to play things like Disaster: Day of Crisis, Another Code R, Rhythm Heaven in Japanese, Pandora's Tower, Zengeki no Reginleiv (anything else I'm missing?). Is this possible? Again, pardon my ignorance, I've only dipped my toes very tentatively in these waters once before.
There seems to be new update regarding Shop Channel and IOS62. IOS62 = Wii U Transfer functionality?
You want to use one of the region free methods to launch your games. All the instructions to do this are in the tutorial linked in my tag.Perhaps this is a stupid question, but now that the Wii U is out I'm thinking about transferring my stuff over and using my Wii as a homebrew test bed. You will be able to do things as you propose without any risk at the moment, but we can never know for sure if something will end up detecting it in the future (I'd put the chances below 1%, though).I want to retain my games on my Wii after I transfer them over to my Wii U when I get one. I
So the only think I need to install on my Wii (currently un-modded, is a launch day console and on 4.3E firmware) is Bootmii, so I can doa pre-transfer NAND backup, then a post-transfer NAND restore.
Looking at the instructions, it seems like I can just chose to install Bootmii on boot2 and not bother installing HBC. Does this sound right? Any forseeable issues with the WiiU tranfser if this is done?
If I have Bootmii installed, will that prevent me getting official firmware or store updates?

Use Dop-Mii to reinstall Nintendo's MIOS.
Upgrade away.
Thanks clip!
How much do we know about life post-Wii to Wii U transfer?
If I use a NAND backup to retain my games on the Wii, does that mean that I can never re-download them from Nintendo's servers on the Wii? All the re-download rights are locked to the Wii U from now on?
And what about if I ever buy another game from the Wii Shop... does that mean that it will forever be trapped on one machine or another?
Provided your homebrew setup is up to date (done in the last year or two), yes.1) So just to ask one more time, if I update from 4.1U to 4.3U, nothing should happen to the homebrew?
Cfg should only try to translate into Chinese if told to via config.txt. Try looking for the configuration files in the usb-loader directory on the SD/USB.2) I changed the region no problem. Everything is in english now, and the Wii itself says it's in 4.1U, but the CFG is still in Chinese. I redownloaded another version but it still shows stuff in chinese after I launch from the homebrew channel. any help please?
Thanks everyone.
