I've been out of this thread for a while now so forgive me if this has been posted before...

but a Controller 2 version of the Famicom Micro?!

I saw a few of these at a used game store in Osaka a few months back.

I wanted to buy one, but they were over $70!

....for JUST the faceplate!

it's nice to come and cruise in this thread once in awhile and look at the pics, and revel in the love for the micro. Like many folks, when it was announced (years ago) and shown in pics I was unimpressed and didn't care. Then I saw my buddy playing one and thought I MUST HAVE THAT. And never looked back..

Now some years later I still have a lot of love for the little guy. Nearly all my portable gaming had been on micro (never got a DS, PSP - for shame, I know!) and until iPhone it's been that way. Still, "for portable gaming with actual buttons," it's number one for me..
It is great for RPGs like the final fantasy series, but for stuff like Mario it feels too cramped for me. Seeing this thread makes me want to dig mine back out and play some FFVI again though with my Famicom micro.

As if the controller 1 version wasn't unattractive enough.

I vastly prefer the plain colors. I don't really need random splashes of color or graphics bordering the tiny screen.

I recently got 100% on Super Mario World (Mario Advance 2), and I noticed that I died. A lot. I don't remember dying this much on the SNES. There were many times that it was clear I died because I couldn't see how close I was to an enemy, or some other aspect related to the super small screen or controls. I feel like I perform a lot worse on this than I did when playing on the DS.

wth, the famicom version is beautiful. Have you seen it IRL?

Where can I buy some micro faceplates the camo, flame red, bluish at a affordable price? I checked ebay they rarely pop up when they do the price is too steep for me.

I noticed that you can get a microSD card and adapter for additional 9 bucks. If I do that do I need any additional adapters like microSD to miniSD?

The only problem that I've come across with doing it this way (microSD card in a miniSD adapter) is that, at least in my case, it's next to impossible to get the adapter back out of the EZFlash without needle-nose pliers or something. I can still take the microSD card in and out of the now-stuck adapter just fine, and I use a microSD to SD adapter to transfer the files themselves, so it really doesn't bother me. Works fine otherwise, though.

Just got me a gameboy micro and saw this thread sooo....what up. Its pretty damn cool and little. I need some more games though. I do have a question though.....the right shoulder button sticks and I was wondering if there is any method to get this un-stuck

I don't want to spoil the Micro love, but this is just a word of caution for those out there looking to expand their GBA collection:

I recently got a second Micro as part of a GBA Pokemon game hunt. It's a cool green one, but at least one of the games was a bootleg that erased the save every time you tried to load. Still chasing the guy up about it...

I then got a DS for the better half that came with a bunch of GBA games, which I thought was cool. But I have reason to believe the vast majority if not all of them are also fakes :(
(Luckily the DS is legit).

Only use Ebay if you're sure you know what you're getting.

My simple and easy way of avoiding bootlegs on Ebay: only buy games complete with boxes.

If a game is a bootleg and comes with the box, it is pretty easy to detect. I have bought every single GBA game I own from Ebay (about 30 of them) and have received zero bootlegs because I only buy complete-in-box games.

Easy way to tell if a GBA game is fake: look in the cartridge slot for the Nintendo logo. Bootlegs do not have this.

Well that's the thing. At least according to the eBay listings, the faceplate was a Club Nintendo bonus or gift of some sort so they all sell them separate from the system for maximum money-making.

Even though I have an SP and a DS, I'm looking to get involved in this 'scene'. I love the idea of a truly portable system that I can play at any time and any place. I'm playing through a lot of GBA games at the moment (and GB/GBC too, but I know the system can't play those), so a Micro would be ideal (plus, they look awesome).

So, I have a few questions:

Here in the UK it seems that the Micro is pretty expensive, even second hand with no box etc. Given this:

- Can I use my existing SP or DS charger to charge the Micro?
- Does the faceplate also cover the screen? In other words, if I buy a unit with a scratched screen, can I simply buy a new faceplate?
- What sort of battery life does the Micro give?

Thanks in (Gameboy) advance!

-No, it has its own unique port (sadly).
-Yes, a new faceplate would fix a scratched screen (unless some idiot scratched the screen under the faceplate screen)
-Very good, takes a long time between charges. I suck at estimating stuff like this though.

- no...
- hrff, the faceplate cover the screen but isn't the screen! if the screen is scratched, a new faceplate will not change anything!
- dont know, pretty good if I remember correctly but not as good as the other GBA.

EDit: ahah, well, beate,!

Thanks for this. Does the Micro charge via USB lead? This could be a good cheap option if so.

Good news about the face place. That's a pretty cool feature (I hate scratched screens!)

Also, if anyone in the UK (or anywhere I guess) is selling one for a reasonable price, drop me a PM ;o)

Well, I'm part of the gang now, having bitten the bullet and ordered myself a Micro.

These things seem to be really hard to find in the UK (for a decent price at least). I went for a silver one, because the colour I actually wanted (Green) was just too far out of my price range.

So then, can anyone tell me a good game for 5 minute blasts at work? I've got quite a few Advance games already (for use on DS/GBA SP), but I feel I should buy something new for the latest addition. I'd like a game I can turn on, play for a few minutes, then save. Something where I can progress a little bit each time.

No you can't. The micro's plug is slightly bigger and the two won't fit in each other's sockets.

Hmm, I just checked and you are right. The DS Lite connector is like .5mm narrower.

A while ago, my wife couldn't find her Lite charger so she said she was going to my Micro power, but I never confirmed that she actually used it.

Love my GBM! I picked up the 20th Anniversary Edition one at a Zellers here in Canada a few years back for a cool $49 that came with Super Mario Kart!

Currently playing Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow on it.

Try and get a hold of Rhythm Tengoku if you can.

WarioWare Twisted.

Although you may get some looks tilting your system around like a loon. Regular WarioWare is a good choice too, though Twisted is superior.

Polarium Advance and Dr. Mario/Puzzle League would also be great.

The micro uses the same power adapter as the DS Lite. You can use either.
Goddamn, dude, you didn't learn from last time to double-check before posting incorrect bullshit as fact in here?

Do you have a better avenue to vent your hatred for mankind? Maybe jerk off or something. That should work for a few hours, anyway.

Before I put it on eBay, is anyone interested in a brand new, unopened, black Game Boy Micro? The box is in good condition, but the gloss has faded on it. It's the smaller, rectangular box that, I think, only has one face plate (silver) rather than three goofy ones with the camouflage and all that in the bigger, rounded box. It includes the Game Boy Micro, AC adapter, and carrying pouch and it's a US unit. From what I've found, unopened US units are very rare. If you're interested, please reply or send me a PM. :D I'm selling it for $120 or best offer and accept Paypal because it's easier. And I ship (to confirmed addresses) after the payment clears. I was going to keep it for myself, but I decided I don't need a second one.

I recently went through the process of buying an EZ Flash IV cartridge to play Another World on, and that seems to be working well enough. Make sure that you buy a mini SD card, and not a microSD convertor into mini. I had issues trying to do that, but the mini (which you can get through amazon, but I don't know if stores carry them, Fry's didn't) worked fine.

I got mine from this place, and it arrived fine. (I live in the US)

Bumping this thread because I want to get one of these babies for my Micro, but this concerns me. It's hard for me to find a Mini SD card at a good price, all I can find are microSD cards with Mini adapters.

Has anyone else had experience with this? Do they really not work?

I had a lot of difficulty finding a mini SD card. At first, I tried using a microSD card in a mini SD adapter, which was the only thing I could find at a store. It didn't work, so I ended up ordering a mini SD card online, which I have to put into a regular SD card adapter in order to use it on my computer. The mini SD card works, though. The flash cart is a little glitchy, but I assume it's just the product itself.

Grr... I don't like the sound of that. I had one for my DS Lite and it crapped out on me. But glitchy do you mean it would restart itself and stuff?

May just have to stick with all these damn carts. I want to play Mother 3 again though. :(

I think I ended up ordering mine from amazon. I didn't find one in a local store.

I finally found a copy of medal of honor Infiltrator. So I will be pulling out the micro to play through this gem.

I'm glad to see this thread is still going. I recently decided to get another Micro, after having sold my Famicom edition a few years ago. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I have a Japanese Micro coming my way next week. However, I'm in the UK. Will my UK DSi XL charger work with the Micro? I seem to remember the slot being similar but I'm not sure if it will work.

Does anyone know for sure if it will work or should I start looking for a UK Micro charger now?

Kinda gutted, the sound on my Micro went crackly and distorted a month or so back :( It's in pretty bad shape in general (I managed to keep dropping it for some reason...). I hope I can get a replacement soon, it's a terrific little handheld.

That said...did anyone else get irritated by how easily dust and dirt got trapped underneath the faceplate? Also, the faceplates themselves were far too easily scratched.

I kinda want to get another micro. Like the Pink one. This system keeps drawing me back...never was a GBA superfan. Micro just does it for me.

Finally, I have a Micro again.

I found a brand new Japanese Famicom edition on eBay for $80 and a few games I've been wanting to play for years. I got the USB charging cable Datschge suggested for really cheap too. It seems to work well and it's definitely more convenient than having to plug into the wall.

Now to scour eBay again for the other games I've been pining for. So far I seem to have avoided obvious fakes.

Same, except I want the Famicon version. Only problem is I don't think I could justify the cost, mainly because I already own a DS and a PSP. It's just such a great device =[ Wish I never sold mine.

If I could stumble across one of these new in the wild, in a small mom and pop shop, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Or a backlit SP.

Sigh...

Anybody figured out how to get this damn thing on a keyring? Also I haven't been able to find a black faceplate.

EDIT: willed the metal keyring on there. Finding a matching faceplate is still a problem.
