Even though I like the Happy Mario and cooler box on the Japanese one, I prefer having a North American version.
Why? They're the exact same thing. There's no region lock and games don't change their language.

Bump for great justice!

Bought a EU blue one for cheap off of Amazon.de, when it said "used" he didn't lie. The console has a lot of scratches but it works perfectly and was only slightly dusty. It also came with a game called Back Track, a cool bonus.

Holy shit is this thing small! It isn't small in a bad way, it's the perfect ratio. The screen is sharp as a tack and the buttons feel great. People complained about the shoulder buttons but they feel perfectly fine to me. It's natural to curve you index finger and press down with the tip instead of the whole finger on a device as small as this.

I immediately bought a new/sealed one off of eBay. A Famicom one. That's how impressed I was by this device :)

Now I need a charging cable because it died on me fifteen minutes into Drill Dozer.

I wish some company would make an assload of faceplates so I can stock up. Last time I called up Nintendo they only had the flower and camo designs left, of which I bought two each, but I'd love some more variety.

But to be fair, the flower design is classier than I expected.

Anyone got anything to say about Polarium Advance? I got it off ebay for £3 recently, but can't play it until I'm home from uni. Really liked the DS one.

Yeah, I know. I just preferred having the version that was retailed here plus at the time it seemed like the harder one to find (not sure about now).

Yeah I wish face plates were easy to come by. When I bought my Micro from Gamestop about a year ago it came with that lady bug face plate. I ended up buying a skin to cover it, but it still doesn't cover the whole thing perfectly. Once in a while I check eBay for plates but never see them. It's a real bummer.

What's the best option for picking up one of these? I have a sudden urge to play gba games, and the micro has always appealed to me

Online. Can sometimes find them traded in at Gamestop.

It's both good, and bad.

Good that this is technically the proper sequel to the DS one, the puzzles definitely got harder, and for the better. Bad in that the controls aren't quite as good as having a touch screen.

You could buy one from the guy selling them at the end of the last page.

I thought the controls were fine...particularly since speed wasn't a concern with it cause there's only the puzzle mode iirc. I liked playing it on the GBM just cause there's less extra hardware around, you could play it vertically in one hand if you wanted.

Is the packaging the only difference between the US and JP versions? I'm planning on picking one up, and most online retailers, especially at Amazon are selling the Japanese packaged Micros for significantly less monies.

I know it's region free, so that's not an issue. Are all of the inserts and text on the back of the system going to be in Japanese, or will it be in both languages like a lot of devices?

My Famicom Micro finally arrived! It's a sexy machine, but I'll be keeping it in a box. I got my beat up blue one, that'll be my "workhorse".

...and here comes some beauty shots. I really like Japanese hardware manuals, they always have some funny illustrations.

I've got some games to play, and my library will grow! But first up is Drill Dozer, I always wanted to play that one.

For all the people wanting faceplates, I have come across this seller on Amazon( I am not affiliated with in any way) who sells this awesome Dreamgear pack which has an awesome black faceplate with sunvisor attachment. I had found one on ebay a year or so ago and ordered it and had been waiting for another to pop up somewhere ever since. When I saw it, I got it at once. For 20 bucks or so, you can't go wrong. There are quite a few good things in the whole kit.

Someone should do a FAQ in the OP.
Just seeing this topic i realized: i need to have this.

Is it region free? Is it easy to find gomes for it?
I looked on AmazonUK but they don't have it, just from other vendors/used.
Are there many colors out?

I think all GBA systems were region free.

Its funny how people now have to ask if a handheld system is region free, I miss the days when it was just something everyone took for granted and everyone knew :(

Well I'm pissed. My R button on my micro got messed up somehow. It costs a little over 50 dollars to send it to Ninty to get it fixed. :(. I don't feel like buying another new one even if its only about thirty dollars more.

Any suggestions on where I can get one of these fancy Famicom Micros? I'm from Europe, the special edition never saw the light of the day over here.

Got my famicom micro from ebay via from a similar auction (link).

International shipping does seem steep though.

Everytime I remember that I missed out on buying like a half-dozen famicom faceplates from Nintendo's online store I kick myself.

I'd love to actually play the famicom micro I have but I know that if I fuck up the faceplate somehow there's little to no chance that I can replace it.

btw if anyone is in the area - there are LOADS of these new in box sealed in Dubai at any of the major gaming retailers. i bought 2 the other day to add to the collection. the Famicom one and a green one (Green looks amazing) all new in box.

I still have two pretty much new-in-box Micros I am looking to sell as well as a grip of CIB games (USA versions). I plan on having a big Ebay sell off in a couple months, but if anyone is really interested, just send a message.

Still such a strange little glitch in Nintendo history that completely compels me. I have a famicom one, but no games. I'm itching to get some, though. Love the system, and its build is second to none.

Does anybody have any facebplates for the Micro they're willing to sell to me? I need a new unscratched cover, but nobody has it. Online or off.

Still wish I could play the Famicom Micro from time to time, but once that faceplate get scratched, I can't replace it.

Fuck me and my lazy ass not buying 'em from Nintendo when I had the chance.

I carried mine around quite a bit and there are zero scratches of any kind. I just used the provided cloth bag and made sure nothing else was in the same pocket.

I have spare, official, unopened faceplates. One silver. One black. I would sell them for the right offer.

I love the face buttons and d-pad on my micro so much. They feel goddamn perfect!

I'm not going to lie though, I would love a GBA Micro XL with a bigger screen. Yes I know that would basically be an original GBA, but give it the same shape, same buttons, and maybe a hair thinner and I would be in portable heaven.

I'm so happy to see this thread continuing. I finally got a Micro last year at my local game shop after hunting for a while:

tumblr_ldbvcmFhto1qcn3vao1_500.jpg

I've played through Mario and games like Metroid Fusion on it, and it's the best portable experience I've ever had. I'm almost thinking of liquidating my 3DS so I can stock up on GBA games. So small, simple, so fun.

I want to finally play through FF6 on the Micro (when I can find a copy that doesn't cost a fortune); has anyone had a particularly good/bad experience with this?

I can't recommend it enough. I did what you wanted to do, about a year ago. I stocked up on a load of "essential" games thanks to eBay. If you are clued up on identifying the pirated shit from the genuine carts, it's a goldmine. My entire collection of 20+ games was obtained on eBay, and I only had to send one cart back, and I got a full refund.

Anyway, yeah the FFVI GBA port is a fine one, and it looks immaculate on the Micro. Many will suggest that the time-consuming nature of RPGs might impact the comfort of using the unit, but I have no such problems with the console. I had no other GBA to play on, and powered through it in a few days with no ill effects. An amazing game, that might benefit from the bigger SP screen, but otherwise Micro it up!

Glad I managed to find this thread and some Micro lovers. I'd have to say that I love the system, it definitely has to be one of the greatest iterations from the Game boy line. Anyways here are 3 pictures of my Micro which I managed to get signed by the great composer Nobuo Uematsu as well as Arnie Roth the video game music composer.

I picked up a Famicon Micro on craigslist last week

Only a few scratches but in nice condition!

The kid (he looked like he was 16or so) actually had $30 on it, and we met at a mall, and I carried $10 in my left pocket and a $20 in my right.

"Aww man I only have $20 until payday, a week from now. :("

-shows him the money-

Him - "uggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh fine"

I then walked into the gamestop and saw that they had a B2G1 sale, so I picked up

- Mega Man Battle Network 4
- F-Zero GP Legend
- Mega Man Zero 2

all for $13

It's truly a beautiful thing to have such a great system in the cigarette lighter pocket (do those pockets have a formal name?) of my pants.

Penny pocket, I'm pretty sure. Also, I just call it the chapstick pocket because that's where my chapstick goes. (I am addicted to chapstick).

I just keep my DS Lite in my pocket if I know I'm going to be waiting around for something. It still fits with Return of the King in the GBA slot.

I don't personally like using headphones with my handhelds, but for FFVI I would suggest it. The micro is pretty quiet and you don't want to miss out on one of the best soundtracks to come out of the SNES era.

It's virtually a requirement to use headphones with the Micro unless you don't care for hearing the sound. In all but absolutely silent environments, you won't be able to hear the sound clearly even at max volume.

Imported a Famicom one at JPN launch together with the SMB famicom mini. Such a perfect small package, gotta love it.
