I have a plain grey Micro.

I thought I was special until I checked this thread.

Screw you GAF, you and all your wonderfully coloured Micros.

Would anyone be interested in buying a used Micro? I think I've got all faceplates for it.. And the cloth pouch it comes with.

Damn you, if you have bid and won on any of the Mother 3 GBMs on eBay these past few weeks. ;)

Not sure if I ever posted my pic, but here's my beloved micro I picked up (2nd hand, but mint condition) recently when I was in Taiwan for ~US$70-80.

I had my previous stolen, so was so happy to pick up another one.

Nice picture! What game's in there (if you remember)?

So I finally got the replacement battery. It was a bit tricky to install (the shape of the plug is not exactly like the Nintendo one so I had to force it in a bit) but so far it's working great. As soon as I got it in I turned it on, had some charge (red light) so I charged it for a couple of hours, played Scurge: Hive for about an hour and a half with full volume and brightness with no problems. I was not able to play more time to check the full battery life but so far, so good.

Here's the link on amazon if anyone is interested

This is from their website

An update on battery life, this thing works GREAT. I went for a bit over 4 hours on full brightness and volume before getting the red light, then I played Super Mario Advance 4 for a full hour and it still did not turn off. I'll see how it does under half brightness which is what I usually use but so far, its doing better than the one included with the Micro.

Hello!

So last year my girlfriend bought me a sealed silver GBM in an airport in Abu Dhabi, it's great and I love it but it has a dead pixel. If I knew I would have took it back to the shop but she didn't tell me until we got back to the UK. I called Nintendo but they don't service micros anymore and since it was purchased outside the EU they wouldn't have done anything anyway.

It's quite annoying, everything else is perfect except that one tiny pixel but it bugs me a lot! What options do I have? Is it cheap to get the screen replaced or cheaper to just pick up another from eBay?

Brought a Game Boy Micro from my local Blockbuster for...

wait for it...

£3.19. Bargain. It's mint condition too. Had to get it sent down from another store way up north, but when you used to be the manager it's easy to get staff to look on the system each day for bargains like this!

Own a Micro with a GBA flash cart long time ago from a trade in. Well worth the trade in that time. Still work like a charm. Might post some pics for you people to see tomorrow.

I recently stored away mi GBA SP and GB micro for good (it's been a nice ride guys, no hard feelings!) and I completely discharged the batteries.

But just now I read on iPod batteries page that "Apple recommends that you store it with the battery charged between 50%-75% and the device completely turned off, not just put to sleep. If you store it when the battery is fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge.".

So what's the best option? I'd like to be able to play my handhelds in 10 years!

You're going to want to maintain easy access to the systems. My recommendation would be to take it out every month or every other month and cycle the battery (discharge/full charge). Given typical lithium battery lives (500 cycles), you should be able to cycle it like that for 40-80 years. I have a list of all my lithium operated devices and I run them through on average every other month.

As for discharging can I simply leave the system on for some days? I don't have them at home so that's my only option.

That's basically all I do. I find a game that runs through different images/colors on its start screen (or for both screens, in the case of the DS) and just leave it go (similar effect to a computer's screen saver). It eventually powers off, then I just recharge, and wrap it up.

If the system has been sitting a while, I would probably discharge, fully recharge, discharge again, and fully recharge again. I did this for a few systems that had been sitting in a box for about a year - that was way too long for lithium batteries and I vowed to not let that happen again, so now they're all safely tucked away in one spot that I can get at every month or two.

Edit:
Actually just dug around a little and found this:
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries

Of interest is Table 3. It backs Apple's statement that you presented earlier. It seems that it would be best to discharge batteries to about 50%, and then store them at a low temperature. So now I'm going to have to modify my charging/discharging pattern. ((Cues: The More You Know))

What do you guys use for game storage? I'm looking for something simple and compact, like a zippered folio that holds 8-10 games.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess you don't have kids. Or much of a job. Or life? Because, seriously, with all the rechargeable battery portable devices I've amassed over the years, it would be a herculean task for me to do what you describe every month.

Probably not what you're after, but I use this:

Ripped all me and my girlfriend's GBA games (about 40 of them) using a DS Lite and a homebrew app, and put them all onto the EZ Flash.

Makes the micro truely the most portable handheld ever. I don't know if they're still available now, but it cost me £15 when I brought it. Far, far better than lugging my cartridges around.

Actually, it's really easy to turn a device on and walk away until the battery drains. I had literally just started doing that because I didn't want to pull out my Game Boy Micro years from now only to find that the battery no longer functions. That said, it's all moot anyway now that I've learned about the 40-50% charge state for storage and have confirmed it, so now I'll only have to check a unit perhaps once or twice a year to bring it back up to that level. To each their own. All said and done, the time I wasted with one unnecessary recharge cycle on my portable game systems, iDevices, and spare laptop batteries amounts to about 30 minutes total to bring everything online, set up to just run, recharge the next day after they've drained, and disconnect.

I'm guessing with the new knowledge in hand, it'll take me about an hour total each year for the peace of mind associated with properly storing lithium batteries.

I kinda wish that I'd picked one of these up when I worked for CompUSA. I seem to recall them being priced dirt-cheap, because they weren't really selling at all in general.

Have a chance to get a brand new GBM 20th Anniversary Edition for 100 shipped.

Good deal?

I got a used one (in box, but the box was a bit beat up) for 8000 yen, and that comes out to about the same with the current exchange rate. I've been very happy with my purchase, and it is by far the sexiest piece of electronics Nintendo has ever released. I say go for it.

Every time this thread is bumped I feel like purchasing another Micro. Damn. I need that Famicom one :(
Same, I want to get an all black one.

I've got a black one with a flame faceplate (everyday use) and then boxed Famicom and Green ones. Green one is beautiful, my most wanted of the micro colors. It and the Yellow/Black DSiXL are probably the prettiest handhelds ever created.

I'm actually finding that I don't love the Micro for a lot of more action-y titles; can't really play Megaman Zero on it comfortably. The games I play on the go are more like WarioWare games, Polarium, Rhythm Tengoku, Kururin Games, and Guru Logic Champ though and it feels fantastic with them. I take it everywhere.

Been browsing/bidding on Micro auctions for the past couple weeks. The solid colors and the anniversary edition are definitely the classiest. And yeah, green takes the cake.

Picked up a Famicom Micro yesterday to go with my black Micro. I ended up finding it at a local game store for $25, so I was ecstatic...the faceplate is a little scratched, but I'm not going to complain. It's pretty.

That's awesome. I wish I knew where these mythical game stores existed, where they don't try to charge absurd amounts of money for unwanted products, let alone the good ones.

I kind of want to get one that's not the Famicom micro. It's almost too nice looking to play, but I've been using it quite a lot with games I've been picking up on the cheap (Klonoa GBA 1+2, Starfy 1+2, Mr. Driller Ace). I kind of want one I'm not afraid to scratch a little.

I found that silver one in the bargain bin of some random supermarket for 20€ some years ago. Might be my best gaming purchase ever. Good times.

Picked up the 20th Micro for 100 brand new. Looking forward to playing SMW on it again. and again. and again.

Best flash cart and where to buy it? I have Astro Boy, SMW, SM3, Gunstar, etc, but I don't feel like carrying around 20 carts in my jacket pocket.

Been eyeing these up lately, kind of feel like I should own one, but damn are they beginning to get expensive. Hopefully I can find a used one in good condition, otherwise new I'm looking at £100.

Still have and love my bright pink Micro. Bought it in Woolworths while that still existed for £40 and it's beautiful to play GBA games on <3
