Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

For what it's worth, I've ordered from RealHotStuff twice before and never had any issues.

Cool. I can't get their site to load at the moment so I'll check it out later. I did find another shop which takes Paypal though so might go with that...

Already had my card compromised this year and I don't even use it on unknown websites usually, so feel a bit suss about anywhere that isn't Paypal :/

I kind of want to re-discover GBA since I for some reason skipped most of it. I still own my classic GBA, looks so awesome. But man, I've grown used to screens with some light on them. Such a shame, because I love the design of the classic GBA. Now, the Micro is really cool, but I think I'm going to buy a GBA SP only because of GB compatibility. Sucks. Because if I want one with a nice, bright screen it's going to be the rather... plain looking Pearl Blue one.

Sigh.

I love my Pearl Blue SP+. My favorite SP color after the NES edition.

I'm not sure what to do. I have a micro that doesn't hold a charge. Got a battery. Still no charge. I turn it on. It lights up for a nanosecond when plugged up and that's it.

Just tried turning on my micro without a battery but connected to a charger, doesn't work. So either your battery is busted, or (if that's already replaced) the unit itself is broken.

I don't think it's ugly, but it's very tame and plain looking to me. It's blue, my favorite color, but these look so much better in my opinion:

The NES one looks cool too.

@Peagles: Yeah, I might try that, but I'd need to find a cheap case and in good conditions. If I have to buy two SPs then I'd just keep the Pearl Blue one.

Look who joined the club

Doh, I should have remembered about the Mini SD thing. I had one adapter and I gave it to my friend when I ordered him an EZ Flash off another site (which doesn't have them anymore).

You need a smaller sized SD card? I think I have some older 1 or 2GB ones, and some even smaller, but I have no idea where they are, hehehe...
Yeah MiniSD are a bit a pain in the ass now that they are obsoleted.

Love seeing this thread bumped.

About a year ago I was really really lucky to score a rare EZ Flash III cart which has 2Gb (other models have more) of built in memory instead of using the complicated SD card method of the IV. It's also one of the only carts to have a Real Time Clock built in so it works perfectly with the Pokemon games. It's one of the best carts for GBA and I have all my favorite games on it.

But I've been in a dilema for a while with my GBM. I bought a mint Japanese Famicom Edition about a year ago. I told myself I wouldn't play it too much to try to keep it in the nicest condition possible, and buy a cheap used GBM to play way more often. Thing is I've never gotten around to finding one. So my GBM has, for the most part, remained in it's cool little pouch with a cart full of the glory days of GBA. The perfect portable machine not being played! Every time this thread is bumped I get that urge again to find a cheap used one that's not in awful condition, but I never have any luck.

Wow! Stealing that image to make a WTB in the Buy and Sell thread! Wish me luuuuuck!

Is there a point in buying this if I have a DS Lite? I keep telling myself there's no point but it just looks soo cool... recently found one online with 6 games (Only 2 are good -__-) But i'm not sure... 10 dollars GAF... is it worth it?

Also my hands are huge so if anyone that owns a GBM that has big hands could share their experience pls

Where can I find new face plates? My current one is scratched to hell and I need a new one. :(

In the past, you can get one from Shop Nintendo website for a replacement. Unfortunately, they don't have those now. Only Battery Cover Kits and AC Adapter. Your next choice is either Ebay, Craigslist, or those sale site around your area.

As for my GBA Micro

I am actually stop using it now as the battery inside is slowly dying :-( . I can blame it for my flash cart I am using (Super Mini SD Card) which is sucking the battery very quickly. I am now looking for damage or cheap micro and using it as parts for my Micro.

Nice one. I've got the EZ Flash II and this Super Card thing:

My EZ Flash is always flat because I use it so rarely and it keeps losing the clock settings. :(

1UP selected the Game Boy Light over the Game Boy Micro as the best model.

Have you had much experience with the Game Boy Light? I'm curious to hear more about it.

GameBoy Light, from what I understand, was simply a GameBoy Pocket with a standard backlight. I'm not sure why they would pick that over the micro or SP+, which are tied in my book for the best GameBoy systems.

EDIT: Pretty sure GB Light never released outside of Japan either

If you mean the GBM battery, you can just unscrew the back and replace it. If you mean the EZFlash battery, it can also be replaced. There are several FAQs on this and a tutorial on a site which i rather not name here. Just google for "ezflash 4 battery replace"!

The GB Light is probably the best way to play original GB games, though. In the sense that no need to decide between black bars or horizontal stretching. I've always wanted one, but they're incredibly expensive.

The black bars were a total non-issue for me. Scaling was horrible and ugly though. I can't stand scaling that distorts aspect ratios. I'd rather have the optional pallets and better screen with less ghosting though, so I'd always pick SP for DMG games..

I wish I could hook up my GB Player to my Wii for 480p GBA on my TV though :(

Just look at post post #2363 this is a ezflash card. The battery tends to die after some years and then the cart stops holding safe files. But it can be replaced!

Here is a tutorial explaining how to replace the GBM battery:

Speaking of GBM batteries, where I can find some reliable replacements?
Ebay probably have knockoffs that keep half the charge.

That's where I am currently at. I had a 2GB SD card in my EDGE card, but I cannot find it. I should just order one off ebay -_-

I have an extra one if you want it.

Thanks, but it's ok. Realistically, I just don't have enough time to use it any time soon. Don't want you to go through the hassle if I'm not using it a lot :)

I took mine out of storage the other day because of this thread, hit power and it worked. Hadn't touched in 5 or so years, maybe more. Wonder how well the battery will hold up on a cycle. Screen is smaller than I remember. Now to get my games.

V-Rally 3 is as fun as I remembered.
Mostly because the 3D engine doesn't bog down the gameplay as often happen with 3D games on GBA and the arcade racing is simple and fun.

Took some photos for public domain releases like Another World and Yeti3D since both looks great on the micro screen:

Still looking to buy a Micro off of a GAF member before I hit up ebay or whatnot. If anyone wants to sell one, I'm interested in buying. I just bought Pokemon Leaf Green and a Micro to play it on would be amazing.

How do you guys store your GBA games? I have a game binder that I bought off eBay a long time ago and it holds about 18 games but I need another one and can't seem to find anymore. Someone has to have created some sort of storage system for these cartridges. :(

I was going to buy some DS cases from Nintendo and make covers for them but Nintendo are only selling the newer DS cases which lack the GBA slot.

What kind of charger do these use? Is 50 bucks fair price for one without a charger?
Online it is said that you could use DS Lite one however it doesn't work with my DS Lite charger (socket is smaller) so I'm not sure.

I've bought mine recently off ebay boxed and in good condition for 50 euro (+10 for shipping).
Included was a Supercard SD with a SD card.

:.( had it for 2 years I think. Put it up in my pocket at work without thinking about an hour or two later I realize I had fucking change in the same pocket... :( It scratched the shit out of the top lid..it was in perfect condition... I was sad. Still traded it in because of that for 80 for a Ds lol

GBA Micro specific. The price is so and so.

I bought mine 15€ sealed from a local store 3-4 years ago. Although I haven't used it literary more than 6 times. I used my DSlite back then and I rarely play my handheld outside the house.

I think I only used it to test Boktai

I just got a brand new all-silver European GBM from some HK ebay store, it's so great. At first the screen seemed too small, and I was having a hard time with the shoulder buttons since I'm so used to 3DS XL now, but an hour of Super Mario World later and I was in love.

Thanks to the 8-4 Play SNES episode for getting me to play SMW again leading to buying a GB micro to play it on.

Acquired my first Game Boy Micro this week. It's great! What is your top games that you play most on the Micro over the other iterations of the hardware?

Does anyone know whether it is feasible to get a replacement bright pink Micro faceplate? Lamentably, mine is scratched quite badly. But the little fella' did wonders for me in the queues at Eurogamer!

13 hours into Mother 3, loving this thing right now. I feel sorry for people that buy this system and cover it with a plastic condom or don't even open the box or don't play it.

[collectors are weird...in 20 years when you sell it for 300$ is that gonna make you more happy than the hundreds of gaming hours we are getting out of this thing?]

Objects don't own you, you own them. This system begs to be held, dropped, abused and cherished.

I wasn't going to post this, but after a good hour and a half of sitting on it, I've decided I can't quite justify this purchase. As great as this would look in my collection, I already have a Famicom edition, and I'm a little bit poorer than I'd like to be thanks to the purchase of my new puppy! I believe this is a deal so good I am going to hide it in email tags, so that a passionate Gaffer can be its owner. Of you, I am jealous.

And I can vouch for the site. I've bought a few bits off them, not least of all my immaculate Gameboy Light, and their service is pretty fantastic.

Are they brand new? Not a bad price if so, I knew a guy who spent a premium on his Japanese Famicom Micro due to shipping.

Yeah,

They just got a new shipment in. Their facebook posting has a photo of a crate of them. Probably the best price you will find on the Japanese version. Identical unit to the NA release but the packaging is absolutely incredible for a fan of Mario and/or Nintendo. Real nice. I already got one but really tempted for another.

Their old price was a bit inflated at $150 (and they've had them at that price for a few years). They usually go for a lot on ebay, the japanese release.
