Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

As long you used a credit card, you should be fine. You always have the power of a chargeback if you don't get the item.

I used my Visa through PayPal. It was the number one seller on their website, haha...

Apparently they aren't making them anymore?

Edit: Some research online shows FlashLinker-Shop to be an old and reputable store for flash carts and whatnot, so fingers crossed!

Yes, the shop is legit. If anyone still wants a GBA flashcart, I'd urge you to keep an eye on that webshop, it's pretty much the only place that still has the EZ-Flash IV. It's currently out of stock but supposedly they are getting new stock on the 21st of December. Mind you, another webshop has a message saying these carts are not being manufactured any longer, so if you really want one you'd best start looking now.

Decided to put in an order at that site as well - just in case. Hopefully they (somehow) manage to get more in stock.

Mine just shipped, yay!

If I only I had more money to grab a few more!

OMGGGGGGGGGG Famicom Micro just arrived! The packaging is pretty different to my old Famicom Micro though, so that's weird. Well it's mostly the same, but the way the box opens is quite different (much easier to do on the new one) and there's no white protective cardboard slotted over the hole where the console sits.

Sorry double post but... An EZ Flash II just showed up on my local auction site, so I bought it! The seller also has an Extreme Flash Advance... should I get that too? Is either better than the other?

Edit: I'm too impatient. I bought both. Need. To. Stop. Buying. Videogame. Stuff.

What size is the EZ-Flash II? It's the best GBA flashcart that has RTC. Extreme Flash Advance is a decent flashcart but nothing amazing.

Hmm let's see. The Extreme Flash Advance is 512MB but the EZ-Flash II is only 256MB. Neither really translate into much space for games but I guess that was just how it was back then! I think when my EZ-Flash IV arrives I'll use that for standard games and use the II for games that need the RTC.

Questions, is there anything else the II offers over the IV apart from RTC? And what does the II offer over the EFA to make it the best?

Oops, I confused your cart (the EFA) with a 1st/2nd-gen flashcart, the EZFA (EZF-Advance). The Extreme Flash Advance is an awesome cart that was released after the EZ-Flash II if I recall correctly. Like the EZ-Flash II, it should also have ~99.9% compatibility. There's a later version of the Extreme Flash Advance that doesn't have the RTC though, it was only in their first version for some reason. The 256 Mbit version of the EZ2 is still decent, but you won't be able to have two 128 Mbit games on there because the loader takes up some space as well. The EZ-Flash II has always been touted as the best GBA flashcart out there since it has pretty much perfect compatibility (I don't know of a single incompatible game), for both games and saves. It also has an RTC, decent software and it allows you to back up your own retail GBA carts.

Aside from RTC, the EZ2 uses NOR memory which allows you to boot to the loader, select a game and play it instantly. The EZ4 uses cheaper PSRAM memory so it takes some time (pretty fast) to load the games before it boots them. For games that are larger than the PSRAM (128 Mbit), you need to write the game to the NOR which can take like 5-6 minutes but once it's there you can reload it instantly. The biggest advantage of the EZ4 is definitely the ability to load games from a MiniSD card. You can use a 2GB card and that's 16 Gbit of space which is plenty really.

Wow, thank you for all that info! I'm really looking forward to receiving these now!

In other news, go go gaffers get the last one!

So i just got one from a local retro game store here in new york.

I think my hands are too big, my pinky and ring fingers get numb during use. Kinda disappointed, im willing to trade this for an sp with someone from this thread who is looking for one.

Week ban is over, haha.

My purple micro arrived and I love it! Been playing FFIV and Mother 3. Also bought a EZF IV from the flashlinker site which should arrive before christmas!

EZ Flash IV is awesome. I just wish there was a way for me to transfer my FireRed save over from my GBA cart >.>

I feel you. I wanted to transfer my Ruby save over when mine arrives.

Wait, I thought you could? Although you do need some extra equipment I guess.

I'm sure when I was doing all my reading I saw that you could use a DS with a DLDI cart to run cart_save.gba and back them up to PC, then you could write them to your miniSD and pop it in your EZ Flash IV.
If you are into DS hombrew at all you probably already have this stuff!

Or you could find an EZ Flash II like I did, muahahahaha!

I didn't know that was possible, but I'll look into it.

My phat DS gets more use then any of my others.

I think actually I misunderstood. You should be able to run cart_save.gba on the EZ Flash IV itself without any extra equipment...

From Sosuke's
How do I backup Game Saves from an Original GBA Cart?
cart_save.gba is a GBA program designed for use with a DLDI compatible cart. It allows you to backup game saves from your original cartridges onto a flash memory card. You can then copy them to your computer and restore them at a later date. To use it, put the file onto your compact flash card and run it using the Game option in your cart's menu. It will then tell you what to do next.

This way, you can transfer your original save games and move them around with your ROMs.

I think that then means you can make backups of your own carts as well as their saves with this program (maybe you swap them in and out while the program runs in memory?) just using the EZ Flash IV.

I might still be misunderstanding actually but I'll do some more research :P

That makes sense actually. I'll give it a shot once my card arrives. The Flashlinker guy told me it should be by Monday, so hopefully he's correct.

My Famicom model came in today! Woo!

... Think I'm going to snag a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance - is it still considered the best version of the game? I had all the big games on the handheld back in the day - any good JRPGs that might have flown under my radar?

Just a heads up, FF Tactics Advance is not the same as the PSX/PSP game. Totally different story and characters. Some good RPGs are the Golden Sun games and Mother 3.

Ugh looks like EZ Flash IV is on permanent backorder again at Flash Linker Shop.

Mine have left Germany according to the tracking. My old school EZ Flash kits are apparently at my house though, yay!
When I've got everything I'll post a family photo with my new Famicom Micro :P

Got an email this morning that my EZ Flaah IV has been dispatched from the Flash Linker shop :D And I ordered after they went out of stock! Very nice

Mine was sent on Monday, it arrived on Thursday. Shame the build quality of the EZ-Flash IV is so shoddy! :D

Here's a pic to show what I mean:

VQTDs.jpg

It's not my pic but I've had the same happen after removing it from my GBA SP and NDS Lite like 3 times or so. There's also some space between the top halves of the cart, which kinda annoys me since I like keeping all my flashcarts in great condition. Nothing you can do about it though, the build quality of the EZ4 is just that bad.

I'm honestly not sure. About 3-4 years ago, I gave/sold my EZ-Flash IV to a nephew and I don't think it had that problem. Back then the EZ4 still came in a nice soft case with a magnet lock though, so maybe the build quality also went down these past few months/years. The gap on the bottom right of the cart can be fixed though, you can hold down the two sides and it'll be a perfect fit, then you can use some superglue or whatever to hold it like that. Shame this is necessary in the first place, though.

The EZ-Flash team is known for the high quality of their carts in general, so I'm not sure what happened with these. You'll notice when you compare your EZ2 with the EZ4.

Mine was like that too. I just pushed it back together and put a little drop of super glue on the side. It's still holding together, so far.

I didn't have any trouble with mine but I do prefer the M3 Perfect.

Yeah, I love my M3 Lite Perfect too. For best GBA flashcart it's a toss-up between the M3 Lite Perfect (and maybe EZ-Flash IV) and the EZ-Flash II for me.

Aside from RTC, the M3 Lite Perfect also has real-time saves, which is a great feature I don't think any other GBA flashcart has. The in-game reset to the menu is pretty cool as well. Oh, and being able to have multiple saves!

I hate the skins though, do you have a decent one? It's also a shame that it takes quite a while to start playing: first it shows that "not endorsed by Nintendo" disclaimer, then it loads the menu, next you have to go to 'Game' and finally it has to load the game you want to play too.

EZ-Flash IV doesn't have real-time saves nor an RTC, but it loads quite a bit faster so there's that.. It still has perfect compatibility and lots of storage so it's a great option anyway.

The EZ-Flash II lacks in space (biggest version is 1 Gbit / 128 MB and was quite rare, not to mention expensive) but it does have RTC, perfect compatibility, soft reset back to the loader and it's a pure NOR-based cart so there's zero loading times whatsoever. You power on your GBA, 1-2s later it shows the loader, you select your game and it just boots. It also has a low power chip so it only uses 1.8v instead of 3.3v like retail carts.

The M3 Lite Perfect was about $90 when it was first released which was quite expensive at the time, compared to other flashcarts. It's worth a lot more these days since (all features compared), it's the best GBA flashcart that's ever been released.

I had the M3, EZ, CycloDS & the Supercard's for both the GBA version & NDS version. Gave most of them to my cousins & kept both Supercards.

Supercard MiniSD and Supercard DSTwo are the best out of the bunch. They keep getting firmware support long after their release, Supercard DSTwo released a firmware to work on 3DS also. Homebrew just works too.

Does that only play GBA or GB as well? If so, not having large cartridges in my GBA would be nice.

I've had Supercard sd, Supercard mini sd and the EZ flash IV and out of all those, I prefer the Supercard mini sd. It has a some slowdown on a few games, but the real time save function is awesome. And I prefer the menus. Also they can be had for between 12- 23 bucks, depending on where you can find them available.

I didn't know the Supercard MiniSD also has RTS, cool. I never considered it since the compatibility with GBA was pretty bad compared to the other carts though..

Is it possible these new EZ Flash IV cards are not legit? I know in the past there have been fakes coming out of other flash carts that have questionable build quality but still function kinda okay.

Got my EFA and EZII but they don't work on my XP machines. Looks like I need a system with SP2 or earlier? Argh...

I would do anything to have the Green Gameboy Micro, but I'm unable to find it :(

I spent months trying to track one down. I reached a point where I HAD to have it, no matter the cost/effort.

I finally got one from eBay.de (Germany's eBay).

Found a seller shipping internationally (Kostenlos). In total 89 EUR plus 20 more for shipping to America.

It was not cheap but it was in great condition and came with the box. Try contacting the seller to ship internationally.

You sir, have brought me hope on this christmas eve. Thank You. Happy Holidays :)
