Game Boy Micro <3 Thread

Oh, it's free alright. You'll have to pay for shipping. Which is $110. :D

I'll post pictures later on when I'm not busy.

Be diligent and keep checking eBay. Eventually someone will be selling one for 30-40 or a nice complete one for 60-70. I got an all black Japanese model, mint condition, all packaging, an EFA flash cart plus a leather pouch for $65 a few weeks ago.

Just keep on the lookout. Look especially at the 'recently listed' buy it now's.

I asked before, they never had them according to the guy I spoke to
Just called.
Nope they do not have them. :(

Fucking NOE.

Might just put it up for sale to see if I can turn a profit and get a mint micro instead.

I find it odd that I enjoy spending more time looking at pictures of the micro than playing it :lol
It's a sexy looking machine.
I understand why you'd enjoy looking at it more than playing it because I do have some issues with it:

The screen is really small.
The shoulder buttons require you to hit them on the inside.
Hitting the b button like I normally would on a handheld/controller blocks the speakers.
The select and start button are awkwardly placed.

Check your local Gamestop as well. They sell them used for $30. I got mine there in good condition, only about 15 miles from my home. Others have reported that Gamestop is willing to ship one from another location around the US for free.

Question: What's the size of the Micro screen relative to playing GBA games on a DS Lite? GBA games only take a part of the DS screen so a direct comparison of the dimensions won't work. Is it bigger or smaller than on the DS Lite?
I physically measured the difference in viewable area using a Micro and a DS (which has the exact same size and dot pitch of the DS Lite).

The micro viewable area is 50mm.

The DS viewable area with a GBA game is 79mm.

So, just from diagonal measurement alone, a GBA game on the DS is 64% larger. Do what you will with this information.

I know what you mean. I have a problem with hitting the volume control while pressing the right shoulder button, usually when playing Street Fighter or KoF.

anyone have any extra faceplates?

i'm looking for solid color or a nice-looking design, none of that stupid spin art stuff ;p
Seconded.

I would definitely be interested if anyone has a spare faceplate (preferably black).

Many thanks, just what I wanted to know. Unfortunately, that pretty much kills my interest in the Micro. I find the screensize of GBA games on the DS lite to be tolerable at best.

Still like admiring it in pictures though.

I am also looking for a micro. Please help!
I don't know if you have an account at racketboy.com, but I got a PM from a guy who's trying to sell a micro which needs a little fixing up for $20. If you want more info on it, send me a PM.

Anybody have some game recommendations for someone who only played Pokemon on their GBA while growing up? I have purchased both Golden Suns and Metroid Fusion so far. Looking at LoZ: Minish Cap and A Link to the Past. Any other must haves?

Metroid: Zero Mission and Final Fantasy VI. Weggles covered some of the other essentials.

Try this thread, I found it very helpful.

So I got a used GBM a week ago from GameStop and it didn't have a charger so I got one off of Amazon and that came today. I'm definitely loving it. For my GBA, all I had was the original GBA and having no backlight makes me not want to play that thing. I could use my DS Phat, but I never have that with me since I got a DSi. But now the Micro has solved that problem! All of my GBA games look great on it. I also picked up WarioWare: Twisted and am loving that. I especially love the little vibrations when you tilt it, you can really notice it with the GBM.

Also, anyone know of a place where I can get faceplates? I'm in the US, by the way. I got the black GBM but it only had the Flame faceplate and it has some scratches on it so I'd like to get some other ones.

While waiting for my micro to get here, I have been looking for faceplates as well, cause I would really like a sleek all black look for my micro when it gets here. Too bad NOBODY seems to make or have them anymore.

It just came in!

(sorry about the bad picture, no camera here)

I love it!
It's a lot more comfortable to play than I expected.

seconded!

And Another World looks and plays great on the micro if you have the $$ and patience to set it up and order everything you need to get it running.
If I have a flash cart can I get it to run?

Still my favorite handheld since 2005. I almost always have one of these in a backpack or shoulder bag.

EDIT: What the hell, one more comparison shot. Gunstar edition.

minor - How is that emulation console whose name escapes me at the moment in terms of dpad/buttons and emulation quality?

Worth waiting for the Pandora or does it do the job well like a Micro on steroids?

I've got one as well and I think the buttons/d pad are actually pretty good. They do feel a little cheap, but control respectingly well. SNES/Genesis emulation is iffy on a lot of games unless you're running custom firmware on it (not hard to do) but the NES and GBA emulator is absolutely flawless, which I actually prefer to carry it around since I'm able to keep all 60+ of my GBA games in one convenient spot.

It's the Dingoo A320, and it's a pretty capable system for emulation. I have many of my GBA games on there, although I don't find the GBA emulator to be 100% perfect (some framerate and sound stutters, enough to kill Rhythm Tengoku). The Linux-based Dingux firmware has plenty more options too, like a better Genesis emulator, PC Engine, MAME, etc.

The build quality is actually surprisingly good. The dpad and buttons all feel very solid, even the shoulder buttons. It doesn't feel cheap or shoddy. And the screen is pretty bright and sharp, no complaints there.

They go for around $70-80, so they're a pretty good bargain.

Got one! :)
Looked around a few Gamestops, and all had a few, but scratched like hell..and with no charger...and still at $35.

So I did some math and noticed that if I got one on a Gamestop:
Micro: $35
Faceplate: $10
Charger: $5
Case: $10
-------
Total: $60
..and still, the back of the system would be really bad, since the ones I saw were..scratched everywhere.

So, went to eBay that same day..and for that same amount ($60) got one, nearly new, all black with 3 additional faceplates, charger, instruction booklets and a small bag/case.

Now..to get games. XD

Is this one Exactly the same as the one you have but black?]
I've been thinking about getting it for some time and from your impressions on the one you have it sounds solid.

Looks like it, sounds like it. If you're looking for absolute perfection out of this system, you might be disappointed. But for the most part it's pretty robust and worth the modest price.

Important Note for Mac Users
When connecting the Pocket Retro Game Emulator to your Mac computer using USB, you will see it appear as any USB mass storage device with about 4GB available. However after copying over your desired files and ejecting the device, you may find the system needs to be reset (look on the left side of the system for the reset button). This doesn't occur on computers running Windows.
:lol Yeah, it's the same thing. That's the other annoying thing about the system.

Has anyone ever replaced their micro battery?

I think my travel system has a battery that is on it's last legs. The charge is just a few hours, and the red lights will start flashing erratically towards the end of it's charge.

Does anyone know where I could get a replacement battery? Nintendo doesn't seem to sell them online.

I haven't personally tried them buy they seem to sell them by the truckload on eBay. The prices are pretty reasonable too.

Speaking of eBay, I've found several listing for new GBA SP with the brighter screen popping up as of late with 400- 600 loaded games.

eBay listing

Some site.

What really struck me is these are really good fakes since Nintendo doesn't make them anymore but for that price they're kind of a good deal considering the real things were going for like $150 last time I checked.

I think most people in this thread simply use several micros, if one's down, take the next LoL
Sadly they don't seem to be as cheap as they were anymore, at least not the new ones...
