Game Boy Micro: New GBA Revision

It seems that Nintendo can't just be happy without announcing a new rendition of the GBA every 4 months. Screw it, I'm not buying this.

I adore GBA games but I can't see what anyone finds appealing about this. They took a screen that was already too small and chopped more than a whole third off of it. And unless you have the hands of an 8 year old, this thing is going to be impossible to play with. Yikes. Brutal.

I'm totally in love with this redesigned GBA. Much as I adore my PSP, the thought of having a tiny iPod-esque GBA with a proper backlit screen just slays me with delight. It's the perfect little brother to my PSP.

Fuck the DS in all of its worthlessness. Now that I'm getting proper GBA backlighting, it really *can* go die in the woods of antiquity, where it belongs.

maybe that's their plan?

I'll be the first one to admit that Nintendo shamelessly repackages the same old shit every year and sells it to the stupidest fucking people alive. That being said, I can't wait to buy this thing when it comes out.

Here's a size comparison, it looks freakishly tiny (it's based on the GBA having a 2.9" screen and the Micro a 2" screen, DPad and Buttons are the right size as well). I can't imagine this it going to be even remotely comfortable with anything approaching adult hands. But I'd love to be proved wrong, I thought the same about the SP:

This...I don't need. I would largely prefer to play GBA games on this than the bulky DS, and I may buy it for that.

Still, am more excited for Mario and Luigi 2, Advance Wars DS, CV DS, Mario Bros. DS, Age of Empires, Mario Kart, etc... New games.

Impractical, likely awkward to hold (the SP was bad enough on my hands), redundant (I have a GB Player), BUT...yes, I'm shamelessly attracted to the thing. It'll be neat to try such a light handheld, and I want to see that screen in person. $40 or under, please.

I think it looks nice. It might be a smidge too small, though. The regular Gameboy's screen was pretty tiny, but this thing looks plain microscopic. Still, if Nintendo's plan is to market this thing at a disgustingly affordable price, I'll buy one. Just for novelty's sake.

It would have been absolutely perfect if 1)The screen was the same size as the older GBAs, and 2) there was some way of protecting the screen from scratches. I do like the positioning of the buttons, and I'm thrilled that it's backlit like the DS.

Of course, I've yet to hold one in my hands yet, so I'll hold off until I actually do.

But, it's a damn shame that all those really neat games are going to be DS exclusive. Mario and Luigi 2, a new Kirby game, Final Fantasy 3, New Super Mario Bros., a new Yoshi game, Castlevania. Sigh. I guess I'll have to buy one of those large, clunky DS's sometime or another after all.

You want to know what's wrong with Nintendo, just look at this thread. "It's too small, not very useful, I don't really need one, but I'll buy it, anyway." It's no wonder they've been stuck in neutral for the last 10 years.

They had a chance, if they could have fit in a small mp3 player and released this at 100 bucks it would fly. Nintendo has failed me yet once more.

You know, I still don't understand the lack of SNES-quality RPGs on the GBA. Some of those (FF 3-6 and Chrono Trigger ports would be bliss) would make this purchase a lot more bearable :(

And if they try to steal any more than $50 off me for this thing, I will personally bomb the shit out of Nintendo headquarters.

Wait, so how exactly will this work with a smaller screen?

Games will be cropped down to its size?
I would assume that the pixels/pixel spacings are smaller so that it retains the same resolution in a smaller area.

As I understand it, the resolution is the same, so you're getting a higher DPI. This is going to be one fantastic looking screen.

Nintendo's Target Demographic = the dumbest consumers on earth.

Hence why children are so often involved.
:lol :lol :lol

I don't know what they're thinking. They should make a DS revision. Hasn't it been shown that the GBA is currently floundering in the face of the PSP and DS? Why make another revision when it's clear that the platform is on its way out? Shoulda at least done something for the DS. I don't believe in showing a GBA2, but they shoulda shown something for the DS and at least some Rev teasers. Dropped the ball again. :( PEACE.

From a business point of view, I simply do NOT understand this move from Nintendo:

1) Shouldn't you be trying to close out the GBA line and getting people to buy the DS instead...especially because of the competition with PSP?

2) The GBA SP already exists as the low-cost alternative to the DS, and is currently $80. So what is the price point for this unit, and what do you do with the remaining GBA SP stock?

3) Unless you are planning to encourage ongoing support for GBA games, isn't it strange to be selling new-yet-obsoleted hardware?

4) Who is the market for this revision? Young kids? It looks far more fragile than the GBA SP -- the screen isn't protected. Adults? The size doesn't seem to be appropriate for adult hands.

So, yeah, I'm totally confused.

"The system is surprisingly comfortable to hold, though it's made more for portability than it is for ergonomics. It goes back to the days of the original Game Boy Advance design that allows for players hands to spread out a little more than the GBA SP's more "cramped" configuration." - IGN

So much for the playa hatas.

I'll match your SNES RPG's and raise you a Super Metroid

I'll be getting one, just because the DS doesn't play GB/GBC color games, and I like to have a portable on me whenever I go out. DS and PSP are a bit bulky, even the GBASP is a little too big for my liking.

It looks as big as my cell phone.

If this is less than $50 I'm game. If not - FUCK YOU NINTENDO! I already fell for two of your shit handhelds (GBA, GBA service pack). I DEMAND REPARATIONS! I want my Shantae Advanced and a backlit screen - and a mule! >:|

The Nintendo Reparation™!

WHAT IF...

1) GBA SP will phase out
2) The DS is getting a re-design down the line

I remember Yuji Naka saying in Nintendo Magazine that he thought the GBA port was pointless and added an unnecessary bulk to the DS.

WOOO!!!!!

NOW I CAN HAVE 5 DIFFERENT MACHINES THAT DO NEARLY THE EXACT SAME THING!

I CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY THE SAME GBA GAMES ON ANOTHER SYSTEM! :D

I love Nintendo, only they are the ones with the balls enough to innovate on this grand a scale. Fuck the haters.

Uh, looks interesting. Don't know why you would want to buy this instead of the SP though. SP can fit easily in your pocket, clamshell design for protection and has a bigger screen.

It would of been awesome if nintendo slapped in 256-512MB of flash rom just like revolution, and it doubled as an MP3 player. I think this is one of the biggest missed oppertunites Nintendo has made.

if you already have a GBA, then nintendo probably isn't marketing this towards you. Why do people expect Nintendo to cater only to you indivitually or something? If you are buying 5 gbas just because Nintendo keeps making them, then im sorry, you are stupid, and it has nothing to do with them. Should Miyamoto come to your house and balance your checkbook too?

Behold the newest shameless Nintendo cash cow. It seems so long as they stick the word "Gameboy" in front of any product, it's sure to sell millions. It'll be interesting to see if that's still the case. I thought the SP was a great idea (if not the system the GBA should've been in the first place), but this just seems needless and dissapointing. Smaller screen, looks too tiny to be comfortable to hold, and it's still a GBA. What about this is supposed to excite me?

I really wish Nintendo would get over this "remake-mania" phase of theirs and start getting innovative, by which I don't just mean bongos and more GBA connectivity.

well there is still the opportunity for a play yan style device for this.

Personally this thing is becoming more and more appealing to me. If it supports GB and GBC games and is less than 50$ I will get one at launch. Hot original Tetris + Tetris attack in my front pocket = WIN

but it'd look stupid having the gameboy cartrdiges stick out of that tiny thing...:|

unless you have a flashrom, tsctsc

What's the point of a nifty tiny device with a giant wanger of a GB cartridge sticking out of it?

The sticking carts will clash with it's appeal. Nintendo stated this GB was designed to appeal to the image concious crowd. Making it a sleek dual GB/MP3 player could of been an instant win and attracted that crowd and it might of given the iPod shuffle a run for it's money sadly Nintendo misses another golden oppertunity. Play Yan doesn't work it's too complicated it has to be built in.
