It kinda was "lets put the second amendment to the test". We think the left is tyranny, so we have to fight it. Same with the Kirk shooting now. We perceive tyranny from the right and we have to fight it. It's not just a scary and dangerous option, but it is our duty as a civilian... some people took it into their own hands to "protect/fix the broken system".
Some on each sides of the spectrum are seemingly at that point. Stubbornly convinced that they are absolutely right in a few key disagreements and unwilling to compromise, not even a little, which is kinda understandable, since abortion rights, gun rights, gender minority stuff, immigration are core values, that I have no idea how this can cool down, votes being pretty much 50:50 ever since. I can't see how it could turn into an actual civil war, the majority of supporters on both sides are hardly willing to actually fight over that, or anything, but at the same time it feels like way too many are ready to fight with all means. Some only as keyboard warriors, which these celebrations mostly are, but at the same time that visible support is just enabling the actual perpetrators. While European laws in some cases probably infringed too much on freedom of speech, way too much actual hate speech is going on unpunished in the US.
Extreme views are no exclusive american thing, but with the duality of their party system it is so much easier to leave some moderate grey area in a middle. Democracy is nowhere perfect, but that the US worked as well as it did, is kinda surprising with all the fucked up systems they have.
Any other time I would think making some edgy joke or unhinged actual celebration should not bother anyone much, humor, dark humor can be cope mechanism, but the climate is just too hostile and people are knowingly playing with fire, for clout or unhinged blind agendas. Both sides are walking towards fascism, pointing to the others but unable to see themselves doing pretty much the same.

Yean but wen you get to a point when you truly believe that a guy that is gay , antifa, lives and has a relationship with a furry transexual, has outside relations with another trans and mens, is part of transexual foruns, when you can be easily convinced that this guy is an ultra conservative that killed another for not being conservative enough... this is beyond anything I saw from them .. is like no way a normal human brain can absorb those informations and accept as it is. Just remember that there is nothing hypocritical about making your enemies live up to their own set of rules.
If one side creates a binding rule and requires us to follow it, even if we disagree with the rule, we should also make the other side follow the rules. The reason is because having a separate set of rules for each side is wrong.
Even if we don't agree with the rule, if the rule exists, it must be applied equally.
The trick they use is to frame the argument as "you are hypocritical" which allows them to dodge any moral questions related to the above. Remember, it is them who have told us that while we have freedom of speech we do not have freedom of consequence. So based on that, they must agree that these people deserved to be fired TOO. Thus their "hypocritical" claims are being made in addition to apparently agreeing with the basic concept that "we have freedom of speech we do not have freedom of consequence." If they agree with the quoted they must agree with the firings unless they do not believe that celebrating this man's death should have any consequences at all(hint this is what many actually believe, but not many will argue this directly). They will never admit this but it is clear they do not like to be made to live up to their own set of rules. The kneejerk reaction goes straight to "my enemies are hypocrites" but it is not so.
I also plainly addressed CK's comments on gun violence. We allow certain activities, such as hiking in parks or swimming in pools which have a mortality rate. Our society weighs this mortality rate against the activity and regularly makes updated decisions on whether this is a thing that will continue to be allowed. These are facts. He wrote, "I think it's worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the second amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational." That is his opinion. This is also an opinion, "I think it's worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some drowning deaths every single year so that we can have access to lakes, fishing, swimming pools, and other things that make our time on this Earth more bearable. That is a prudent deal. It is rational." Think about the second quote which is one I've made up and not a quote from CK. Do you think it is evil? Do you think I deserve to drown? If I drowned do you think I would want to ban swimming pools? If the opinion I made up was okay why isn't Charlie's?

I know some "incitement to violence" claims can fall into gray areas that aren't cut and dried. This is not one of those cases.

A drug addict who held a gun to a pregnant woman during a robbery got killed while being arrested. Their response was to burn down cities across the country, kill multiple people while doing so, and then build statues honoring his "legacy".
We could only pray that they'd just peacefully march if the situation was reversed.
