Oh no it's the consequences of my actions. Seriously fuck ghosts I could care less about that game anymore. It's so simple to vote with your wallet now, and these devs have been free to spout their nonsense for years thinking they were in the right.
Celebrating the death of someone over words and the constant "but he said mean things" to justify it is unhinged. It's not even about beliefs anymore it's just everyone who doesn't think the same as me is a nazi and should die. It's sports teams it's Yankees vs Red Sox, you are so blinded by your loyalty to your team you will celebrate death regardless of deep down (hopefully) knowing it's wrong).
Hopefully this is the first domino in a long line of Devs shutting the fuck up about your politics. We play games to escape the nightmare of reality and these fuckwits make it their whole personality and have to inject it into every single aspect of their lives as deep down they have zero to contribute to society.
I hope the game tanks and other companies take notice

Yeah I have no problem with that. He encouraged affiliates to take action if they're not happy with Kimmel's content - and it seems a couple of them took him up on that offer.

Everything allowed by law has a mortality rate. Everything is paid for in human lives. In society the law creators decide when an activity is too dangerous and outlaw that activity.
Paraphrasing, he stated that he thought the current decision by lawmakers to allow the 2nd amendment in the US with the current mortality rate was a good decision. Lots of people feel that way in the US.
Here's another example. I believe it is worth the current mortality rate to allow airplanes to fly. It is worth it for society to have some die in airplanes so we must not outlaw them we must keep them in the air, imho.
If I die in an airplane I will not want them banned. I do not deserve to die in an airplane just because I have this opinion. There is no hypocrisy. The irony you describe isn't a pejorative towards Kirk or his opinion. It is arbitrary and perhaps even intentional by the assassin himself. Do you see?

He did not say gun deaths were 'ok or 'no problem', just as you -and I and almost everyone else- do not think car deaths are 'ok' or 'no problem'. Most think they are an unfortunate consequence but that the benefit is worth it.
Ofc we agree his murder shouldn't have happened, just as he would agree every other murder with a gun shouldn't happen. What he wasn't willing to do was sacrifice gun rights to avoid that risk, just as almost everyone isn't prepared to sacrifice cars to avoid the risk of car deaths.

It's not a left or right thing if this game fails or succeeds. The US is not the only country it is in by a long shot. The game will likely still do fine. Many people that do love Kirk do not follow these things closely and will never even know and probably buy it.
That said, the boycott is already exceedingly effective. It's gotten people fired at the studio and it has hurt their social media marketing. There will be some sales left on the table. It will never perform quite as good as it could have due to this. That said, it was set to be record breaking already and was the top preorder iirc, so I do think it will still sell well no matter how much a single or a couple of countries boycott.
Zeitgeist and mindshare, however, will be affected. I wouldn't be surprised if they change what game they make next over this. It has already negatively impacted the studio. In the US sometimes prosecutors will try a person even though they know they will lose. The saying they have is, "the process is the punishment." That is true here as well. Sucker Punch is already forever changed.

I'm not expecting GoY to bomb. I'm just not interested in supporting a studio that thinks political assassinations are funny or good. I think a lot of other people feel the same. Look at the reactions across YouTube and X to their recent posts to see that it's not just a handful of people who feel this way. Will it tank the game? Doubtful. But I think it will impact potential sales.

But it is possible to have guns and a lower mortality rate, plenty of country that are not the US are the demonstration for that. Sure, the US has some unique socio, cultural and historical attributes that make them distinct, but none of those are a reason not to try and fix an issue.
Just to attach to your same example, planes have a percentage of risk attached, but that risk percentage is not a constant, it varies with regulations. You don't allow anyone to drive their own plane without a license for example, if you did, the price in human lives for plane would be much bigger that it needs to be.
Same goes for guns, the current human lives price that is paid in the US is way bigger than it is supposed to be, but he said that the price was OK as long as he gets to safeguard the second amendment and what comes from it, even logical according to him.
The irony is that this time he was part of that surplus, of that part of human lives that could be saved, but they are not.

Not only was Bethesda the worst, the did it after Microsoft had already come out and said they were looking in to other of their developers, which just shows they have zero fear of anything happening. The problem is Microsoft is you don't know who to go after first because it's all of them. Bethesda, Blizzard, The Coalition, etc. The funny part is, it's exactly the same companies we all knew it would be. There are no surprises in the groups of developers who are showing their asses, because they've been showing them for years, only this time it was linked to an actual death.

If you have employees who feel free to say these sorts of things openly, with no shame (indeed with a sense of moral superiority), I know they are not doing that in a vacuum. They are doing that because the culture they work in supports that. This is how they think. This is how they talk amongst themselves. You don't post something like that openly unless those ideas and ways of talking are normalized in that workplace. (To be clear, I'm not saying the entire work culture is dominated by that; rather that those elements are large enough to cause what we're seeing).
In other words, I've seen enough. Upper management can issue whatever statements they like, or not. Don't care.
