Game Informer: "Ryse: Son Of Rome Is As Fun As Dialing Phone Numbers" (ouch)

Lair was awful.

Heavenly Sword was great. As was Folklore.
I agree.

To explain a bit more about the Lair vibe. I'm not sure why i have that vive. Maybe it's the promise of what it could be and then being a failure. But many games have that, so maybe it's a combination of that with uninspired gameplay and... I dunno, soldiers with similar weaponry. ;P. But i somehow did get that vibe straight from the start. Can't fully explain it.
I heard Lair was better after DS3 controls were patched in....any truth to that?
Only slightly. It's a flawed game in so many ways. And some levels are a copy of the starwars games they made...

Jokes on you I like dialing phone numbers. Just pre ordered it.

I actually did though. I love the Roman Empire era.

Well, at least it keeps with their track record of making straight rubbish. Never had an inkling of hope for this one.

You have to wonder how it was humanly possible to have a game playing a Roman soldier hacking at other people with those amazing graphics suck. It should be a blast. What the hell went wrong?
Crytek.

To be fair, it was originally a Kinect game, so maybe some decisions made back then stuck.

Why though? Why give this game a pass and not the inevitable raping that kilzone: shadow fa is going to get? Especially from polygon.

It's standard MO to not affect the stream of ad dollars flowing in to the coffers.

So exactly like COD Ghosts the content of most all reviews eas that it was a mediocre, uninspired, and phoned in but very few gave it a number that marched what they said.

There's a really hilarious example of this from earlier in the gen too but I'm damned if I can remember the game or site it came from.

Wow, this is coming from GI? They're usually not very critical in their previews. Way to lay the smack down, Dan.

I wanted to be impressed with this game so much, but this is so sad. At least I was expecting it a bit.

This means I have to wait till Halo 5 to get an X1.

Also in Gameinformer's screenshots, the game looks ugly as hell during actual gameplay :(

Wow and this doesn't surprise me. Gameplay was the one thing that looked suspect about Ryse. Graphically, incredible. Combat looked underwhelming compared to all of my favorite 3rd person action adventure combat games. Even the combat system in Deepdown looks more fun than this..

GAF is not going to be ready for review scores. If it ends up not being a good game I'm going to call people who were saying that Ryse is going to be the best exclusive by far

I don‘t see how anyone can be suprised, the depth and variety of the combat system was very apparent from the control scheme.

How much awesome do I get if I press A 3 times thats all I wanna know?

It better be proper awesome or I'm off back to COD, because that's awesome.

Genji: Days of the Blade.

lol my mind was already made up on getting this game at launch, so there's almost nothing that any other person or website can say to not make me not excited about this game. :)

Nice try, Gameinformer, but it's a swing and a miss!

Paying 60$ just for a few hours of mediocre eye-candy is highway robbery.
Spend those dollars on Forza, DR3 or KI instead. Do the right thing.

Ancient Rome with those graphics is good enough for a launch title to me.
Come on, Son. Just because it's a launch title all standards go completely out of the window? I never understood this reasoning.

Same here. I'm ready for some dumb and pretty fun.

I bet they went easy on Cod:Ghosts. Oh well, as long as it has an interesting story then i don't mind, this is a launch game and i am so tired of first-person shooters. Crytek nailed the graphics perfectly.

The sad thing is that I doubt most of the demographic for this game will care. Shiny graphics, check, easy difficulty, check. We have a new yearly franchise here yay.

Put me in the "Crysis 1 is awesome" team.

The sequels were pretty much Crytek trying more and more to make justice to the "glorified tech demo" Crysis was unfairly called.

The thing with Crysis is that it has sandbox gameplay, and the military shooter crowd is not really used to that, so they just play it like a boring setpiece driven military shooter and then proceed to call it a generic FPS that it's all about graphics, a "glorified tech demo", but there is much more to it than that. I love the nanosuit, too bad it was dumbed down.

The game has it's fair share of fault too, though. Even the highest difficulty is usually easy enough so you don't have to explore your options and mess around with the sandbox gameplay.

Crysis is for the military shooter genre what Vanquish is for the cover based shooter genre.

I hope you like the alpha ceph

Having watched the sp footage i actually get much more of a Heavenly Sword vibe (not that deep fighting mechanic, pretty easy with quicktime events in closed environments). Loved that game.
It's a stunning looking game.

Would you say that your fanaticism is making you blind to any criticism?

I know you're a fan and everything, but boy... have some self-respect

The game doesn't look very fun in videos. I mean in bits in pieces we see it seems like it could be, but actually playing it for any length of time and you can tell it seems like a mostly shallow experience. Prototypical launch game.

Crytek hasn't made a genuinely good game since Crysis 1 so I'm not surprised.

Agreed. They seemed so ambitious to push visuals and game design around the time of Far Cry and Crysis, but their ambition has narrowed to merely visuals these days. Such a shame.

Lair 2.

It will still sell over a million regardless of quality because A) launch title and B) popular thematic setting.

Probably. It's one of the premier launch titles, and will do fairly well on that alone.

This was obvious, I thought?

But it's a launch game, so it was to be expected.

They don't have that excuse though, as this was originally going to be a 360 release for Kinect. It was revealed at E3 2011, so by now it's probably been in development for well over 3 years.

I agree with you, crysis 1 and warhead were awesome, but after that.....meh. At least Ryse has an interesting setting?

The negative previews even call it out as difficult, the complaints lie with what they perceive as basic combat, But please continue to be insulting

I'll recommend good games for you this gen bro. Just give me a genre and what you're looking for in it.

It does, and it's really beautiful. It was a Kinect game though, so it's kinda hard to just say "Crytek can't make gameplay anymore", maybe a sequel would be much better? I hope.

As soon as I saw the footage of the QTEs, (press 'A' to chop enemy head off) rather than using my skills to chop it off, I knew this game was too good to be true. And im an xbox fan exclusively.
