Game of Thrones Creators Confirm the Show Will Spoil the Books

Well, let me clarify that statement. The thought of asshole book readers who actively seek to spoil the show for others getting spoiled by TV fans makes me excited.

Better...I guess. Just keep in mind there are a lot of book readers who never spoiled a thing, guys. Be careful where and how you reap your vengean....oh who am I kidding, the ending will be everywhere no matter what.

Siiiiiiiiiiigh

The internet went nuts after the red wedding, if something similar happens it will be tough to avoid.

Though also makes me happy that there wont be any more book spoiler guys in the show thread

The next book will be called 'Winds of Winter: Based on the hit show Game of Thrones'

EDIT: I get a feeling the 'spoiler' will be about a certain popular greyjoy fan theory.
Can't wait for the book OT ****no show spoilers****

Yeah, the "just have a spin-off season of Robert's Rebellion" idea that's always spewed not only doesn't work because it doesn't make sense to halt the story just for the book readers, and have only-show-watchers go "??? where the fuck is khaleesi? wtf is this??" but also because if they wanted to let GRRM finish the series before continuing on, the show wouldn't end until like early-mid next decade.

No Emilia Clarke would make for a better show though

My.. My.. HOW THE TABLES HAVE TURNED.

I had every super important death/event that was going to happen in S2-S4 spoiled before S2 even aired because of inconsiderate jerk holes. I don't even bother with Twitter/Facebook or any social media anymore because of it.

I figure the book will still be divergent enough that it won't matter if I learn that Jon Snow is really a dragon savior who will impregnate Dany to breed the stallion that will mount the world.

I'm a book reader and I'm ok with this and will continue watching the show. It was inevitable really, and I'll still enjoy the books (if they ever come out). I enjoy the tv show despite knowing for the most part what is coming, I can enjoy the reverse as well.

I don't 'wish' for anyone to get spoiled but some of the douches who spoiled Tv watchers on purpose are looking to get rect

At least with the books, you should get a vastly expanded version of the same event, which could be interesting.

Only the broadest of the plot lines will end up in the same place. I'm not worried, we'll have some kinda Full Metal Alchemist thing where everyone looks back and hates the ending by the adaption in 15 years (when George releases the last book!)

The vast majority of the time the show has tried to add its own "plot" its been awful.

We end up with stuff like The Hound vs Brienne and the whole Ramsay's dogs crap.

This worries me a lot

Yeah but you also get great stuff like Tywin and Arya hanging out with each other at Harrenhal. It's mixed.

Alternate Nazi dimension
here we come

What's stupid is that they've done a terrible job in many respects with what has already been written, so who knows how well they'll "interpret" the events to come. I mean, Tyrion's character is so different from the books, why should I hold any weight in anything the show has happen to him?

They are great at creating their own original character moments in terms of interaction with each other and dialogue.

They are downright awful at creating major plot points of their own

Yeah, neither did I. #notallbookreaders

But anyway, I already accepted that this was most likely going to happen a while ago. So I'll still be tuning in.

Yeah I did too so I will also be watching. Also while the ending itself may be the same the road to get there likely will not be as not even GRRM knows the details yet.

The truth in this post.

Yeah I did too so I will also be watching. Also while the ending itself may be the same the road taken there likely will not be as not even GRRM knows the details yet.

Oh definitely. The endgame and major deaths will all be the same. But the details and how everything gets to various points will no doubt be almost completely different.

Really happy with this, hate book readers who spoil the show on purpose for everybody. I already knew about tons of things before they happened. Hell even Twitch chat sometimes spams spoilers for it. Gonna be great to watch GoT spoiler free from now. (or well season 6 I suppose)

I'm fine with it. I think george might be over writing the series anyway.

I believe either George or the Show writer guys mentioned a year or more ago that they were already told how the series is going to end and were given the information they would need to be able to finish the series the way it was suppose to end, just in case the books never got done or whatever, so that information has been floating around for awhile.

George has plenty of input on the show with each season so I've always trusted that it's just as canon as the books, but a remixed version.

This is amazing. The tables have turned.

You can't make this shit up.

There will be an OT here on this very forum OT UNMARKED SHOW SPOILERS.

Lmao.

Anybody else been following this series from the beginning? I've been following these books for almost twenty fucking years, waiting for this ending. I've read them and re-read them with every new release. So, to me, the show watcher who strokes his mustache and says "oh ho ho, my my, how the tables have turned" is a bit gauche. I've been reading these books for more than half my life and if I decide to hold out for the book ending, I am likely to be collateral damage in someone's spree of vengeance upon those uncouth readers who delighted in spoiling the show. I know it's not going to happen here on gaf, but the joy some are taking in the news that we can't finish the series the way we started it without getting spoiled is pretty lame guys.

Is anyone actually planning on avoiding the TV show until the last book is released? I can't even imagine how challenging such a feat would be. In any case, anyone who attempts it has my respect.

Part of me wants to stop watching the show and finish it out via the books.

The other part of me knows I will never survive such a thing. Twofold. I'd be spoiled first so why bother? I also would eventually break down and watch the show.

Not a fan of it going this way, but that's G.R.R.M's doing.

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but I'm pretty sure most people who read the books will just watch the show, not many people are going to get spoiled.

It's a shame, because I really don't think the show is as good at telling the story as the books, especially when it does new stuff without the books as a framework (Ironborn vs Dogs wtf), but oh well. I'll watch/read whatever comes out when it comes out.

The worst book readers weren't the ones that spoiled things out right... those guys got taken care of right away and their comments removed. It was the ones that made statements like "I can't wait to see everyone's reactions after next weeks show..." or ""I'm glad you guys didn't see that one coming" that were the worst. They made those comments knowing they could get away with it. They didn't outright spoil anything but they diminished the effect of any surprises and their comments were just pompous.

Now people can go in to the Book thread and say "I can't wait until you guys get the chapter about Bran... just you wait, it is amazing!"

For every Yara vs. Dogs there's a great Cersei and Robert scene, or the excellent Brienne/ Hound fight, or interesting added details such as the series 4 Crasters plot line, or a set of scenes granting paper-thin ciphers in the books with meaning (Osha, Margaery, Olenna, Pod). The odd bad choices here and there are way overblown by some purists, in my eyes.

It's expected they can't gone on break because would most people even care about GoT if they waited years for book be finished. They have to ride the audience hype train until it crashes.

Honestly I don't care if and when books come out they will go into more detail over plot points heck would not shock me of ending changes by time all books are out in 2035

A book series all about presenting people with a paradigm they think they know, only to continually cut the kneecaps off of everything and shove your nose in it; the readers of that series, who keep an eye on people who haven't read the books, deriving almost as much joy from watching the pained, disappointed, shocked reactions of viewers as they do the adaptation itself; finding themselves, at the end, rewarded for all their time spent lording their familiarity and their fandom over johnny-come-latelies, having all that patience and longing repaid by the story reaching completion in the "lesser" medium, finding themselves at the mercy of a viewing audience who very distinctly remembers just how thoroughly the book readers relished their position.
You ain't right, Bobby.

Completely disagree. It was one of most fun scenes in the season.

It makes no sense.

Why would they even meet one another let alone randomly
fight to the death?

It was like some fanboy who always imagines his favorite characters fighting and who would win.

Actually last season in general was really rough. Some great moments and a lot of bad. Worst season so far imo

EDIT: I get a feeling the 'spoiler' will be about a certain popular greyjoy fan theory.

The blu ray for the show's final season will have a star-shaped sticker on it 'now a hit novel! check it out at your local bookstore!'

At this point I don't think he's ever going to finish the series so I don't even really care about this. I quite like the show so I'm happy to finish it that way instead of via the books.

People who prefer the books are screwed. You may not have noticed but those who arent book readers went through hell trying not to be spoiled by asshole readers.

Every fucking random youtube video having comments that were mass upvoted with HUGE FUCKING SPOILERS. And I'm not talking about videos related to the show, just random fucking videos about random things.

Twitch chat? Spoilers every fucking where in chat. Then theres the sneering jerks in the threads across the internet with their shitty vague 'hints' and crap.

Don't bother trying to black out, you wont be able to. Social networking, videos, message boards, game streaming sites and even the local news will blast ever major event the show features and you won't have a choice. Even radio talk shows will speak on it.

Welcome to hell.

Man if I was Martin I would have absolutely no qualms about changing the ending of the books. Just the idea of watching book readers and show watchers argue about which one is canon until the end of time makes me salivate and stirs my loins.
