It makes no sense.

Why would they even meet one another let alone randomly
fight to the death?

It was like some fanboy who always imagines his favorite characters fighting and who would win.

Actually last season in general was really rough. Some great moments and a lot of bad. Worst season so far imo

Uh, she's looking for them. And he's the Hound? Of course they fight? What?

For every Yara vs. Dogs there's a great Cersei and Robert scene, or the excellent Brienne/ Hound fight, or interesting added details such as the series 4 Crasters plot line, or a set of scenes granting paper-thin ciphers in the books with meaning (Osha, Margaery, Olenna, Pod). The odd bad choices here and there are way overblown by some purists, in my eyes.

But then the show also has Cercei rape, where mah dragons, and a slew of cut characters like Victarion and Arianne...

I agree with you by the way.

A book series all about presenting people with a paradigm they think they know, only to continually cut the kneecaps off of everything and shove your nose in it; the readers of that series, who keep an eye on people who haven't read the books, deriving almost as much joy from watching the pained, disappointed, shocked reactions of viewers as they do the adaptation itself; finding themselves, at the end, rewarded for all their time spent lording their familiarity and their fandom over johnny-come-latelies, having all that patience and longing repaid by the story reaching completion in the "lesser" medium, finding themselves at the mercy of a viewing audience who very distinctly remembers just how thoroughly the book readers relished their position.
Perfection.

This, it was absolutely awful. I'm sorry if it made for a "cool fight", it added absolutely nothing to the show other than some fight choreography.

It was absolutely in character for both of them, and gave Brienne the tease of knowing that Arya is alive. I can't fathom any interpretation of this fight that it's "absolutely awful". I know nothing about what will happen next in the story, but Brienne even seeing Arya was one of the best things that the show could do for Brienne. And then of course she and the Hound fought, because that's the natural progression of what would happen if Brienne -- who sees Arya -- would do with the Hound in that instance.

There is a debt to be paid.

Their joy will turn to ashes in their mouths.

Hey snobby book readers!

What if GRR provided the showrunners with what he secretly believes to be "the bad ending", so that he can eventually say to all the disappointed fans "Get ready for the real ending motherfuckers!".

Yeah it felt so random. When it happened I was just like what? What did that even add other than a "cool fight"

Idk it just seemed so tacked on out of nowhere to me

You forgot Dany's rape. Well, it was still rape in the books since she was 13, but she fucking consented in the books, wasn't bent over and tearfully taken.

The sex was from the same position in the books. And if you think most 13 year olds don't cry when having sex with a grown man the first time....

Lol! HBO's so greedy it's ridiculous. They've skipped entire years for shows like The Wire, The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc., but for some reason they can't take a year off from this show? Geez. I don't even watch GoT, but I just find it hard to believe that they can't take at least one year off. Redo contracts or whatever, but at least let Martin (slow as fuck though he may be) finish the books first.

Time to pay the irony price.

So what, Hound just randomly falls off a cliff and dies in the book?

Remember that fight in that inn with Arya (every fucking chicken)? Well, he gets injured there, the wounds gets infected and he eventually falls off his horse Khal Drogo style. He then begs/goads Arya to kill him and instead she coldly just takes his money, leaves him to die, and fucks off. Brienne later fights "The Hound" but it's just Rorge who found his helmet and proceeded to go around brutally terrorizing villagers with his gang. Brienne proceeded to stick her sword through his spine when he threatened some kids.

It was going to happen, and to be honest, fuck GRRM for letting it happen. People support his books for two decades and now get to experience a watered down version of whatever he eventually writes. Show has been in the worked for five years and he managed to write half a book.

I honestly wish I had never bothered with the books at this point given how little he cares about delivering his fans a good experience .

GRRM, guy who hates fanfiction, has his story finished before him by two other guys. Yeah he has a lot of money but it doesn't change this

I'm okay with this. I'd rather see how it ends in the show than risk the possibility of the story never being finished if something happened to the G Man.

Watching it after having read the books led to a lot of "How are they going to adapt this?" which was quite exciting.

I imagine it would just work in reverse now with us seeing the stuff first in the show and thinking about how much better it would be in the books, more fleshed out.

This is not how television works and you can't just "redo" contracts or "take a year off." Curb is a very, very special circumstance. It's completely unfeasible.

I hated getting spoiled by book readers but at least when I realized/accepted that it would be impossible to avoid it wound up becoming a game of "which spoiler is real and which is fake", which was somewhat entertaining. Unfortunately
Tywin getting killed while trying to take a shit
was real, which was a shock since the absurdity of it made me sure it was fake :-(

Oh, if you just don't like it, that's fine. I just thought your comment on the quality of it was dumb

I still just dont see how it adds anything or made sense.

It truly felt like an added moment. Not something that was part of the story. I watched it with non book readers and they actually asked me as soon as the episode ended if thats what happened in the book. It just seemed really out of place.

I personally can't wait to sit next to a reader, stare at them, and start making faces as they read the juicy bits of the book.

I disagree, this is Martin's fault he took his eye off the ball. What, HBO is supposed to wait for whenever he decides to finish the series? Meanwhile those child actors are growing real quick, so either we have a bearded Bran in a super deep voice pretending to be an 11 year old or we have awkward recasts. Nah, let the show continue.

This was blatantly obvious as soon as the show was successful, considering the fifth book wasn't even out yet, and had taken GRRM 5 years to produce. The math is quite simple: the series would catch up before the next book arrived - and here we are.

It's kind of a bummer, but on the other hand, I'll actually be surprised if GRRM even finishes the books.

I don't think videos of reader's reactions are going to be as much fun as the show ones... "What page are you on? Oh, really, let me know when you get to page 255...no reason, don't mind the camera".

Hope we can get most of the same cast for the inevitable GoT: Brotherhood.

Saw this coming a mile away. There's pretty much zero chance Winds releases before S6.

And I watched it with book readers who loved it. It adds Brienne seeing Arya, which seems like it's important towards the confirmation that Arya is still alive and giving Brienne a mission going forward. It frees Arya from the Hound and allows her to make a decision on helping him or leaving, and defines her independence from not trusting Brienne.

This is weird because it's gonna be hard to know what's a spoiler and what's a deviation from the book.

And what happens when Martin changes his mind about major plot points? He's already said many times the "characters wright themselves."

The show and books are gonna end up majorly different i bet.

My girlfriend feels the exact same way. I don't even tell her GoT news anymore because it just makes her angry at GRRM. Me, I'm just excited to get to see the end of the story, since he's taking so long to write it and I don't feel like waiting decades.

i've been waiting for this moment for a long time. it was bound to happen and many of us that have been reading the books for 18+ years knew it.

im also happy that us 'book readers' are now on the same page (pun intended) as 'show watchers' because we can finally remove those uptight "book is so much better" fans who weren't able to separate the mediums in their minds. can't wait for the show to spoil me past the books! hope it happens this season

I really don't know how to handle this.

I vastly prefer the books and would much rather experience the story through that way first. But I don't know if I can just ignore the show completely for the next 15 years or whatever! lol

And if I get something spoiled by some fucking show watcher, I'd be quite upset.

Fucking hell George.

As someone who doesn't watch the show and has read the books, I find it hard to care anymore. I have already forgotten a lot of the finer details of the story because there is such a long gap. I will do my best to avoid spoilers for as long as possible, but eventually, I will fail.
Woe is me

Hohohoho, interesting. I got caught up on the books through Audible while waiting for the show to come back, I just couldn't wait. Now I'm in a position where I'll just go with the flow. Gives me some shit to look forward to I guess.
