I wanted to see the Crows fighting the zombies&white walkers :/

It is getting kinda annoying how they skip out on so many battle scenes. I expect the series finale to be one long black screen with sound effects and at the end we see someone sitting on the Iron Throne. The end.

Just a warning, some asshole on the current top of the page in the other thread spoils some things.

Went in looking for some recap review links from some of the sites I followed last season that don't spoil anything and inadvertently got spoiled by mere skimming to find any relevant posts.

Three years the threads have been going and yet some people can't follow basic instructions. Blows my god damn mind.

someone remind me, was the former commander of the kingsguard more of a good or a bad guy? I can't really recall the scenes he was in
e: nm, just checked the wiki, he's cool :)

On another note, I hope I don't have to wait to long to see Selmy finally fight. His ability has been hyped up by just about everyone.

I don't understand how this show does it, but the hour goes so fast and at the end I go "Nothing really happened that much. But it was awesome."

Such great dialogue in this ep. Also, that giant was awesome.
Looking forward to seeing Arya and Theon next week.

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?
Man, the kids are growing up fast. I almost didn't recognize Joffery's voice, and Bran sounds different in the preview. Plus Sansa is reaching giant status lol.

Well, the actor playing Joffrey is actually 20 years old, would have been 19 when they filmed season 2.

Damn, I liked the episode. It's amazing, how soon everyone forgets that there is a war going on. I thought the Margaery queen-wannabe would be some ruthless Marie Antoinette type character. But she seems like a princess Diana type almost. You could see Cersei angry at her because she is a good person unlike her.

That's not why Cersei looked perturbed. Margaery revealed her ambitions last season, she'll pretend to be perfect and nice to get what she wants, which is to be queen. Cersei can just see past her lies. Her meeting with the orphans was all for show and manipulation.

Yeah seriously. Of course the show/books are mainly politics but a little sword fight here and there would be pretty nice...give me like 2-3 minutes of Spartacus action per episode and I'll be happy. The only fights I recall taking place have been in what, season 1 between Ned and Jaime and the tournament--both of which were kind of clunky and overly brief. Guess there was the Quorin fight too.

The only awesome fight I remember was Drogo vs Mago, and that too lasted like 10 seconds lol.

So Barriston Selmy served in the King's guard for both Targaryan and Baratheon?

Also I may have missed it but do they explain why the Mountain left Harranhall?

Aiii

So not worth it
So Barriston Selmy served in the King's guard for both Targaryan and Baratheon?

The Kings Guard serve for life, much like Maesters, they are bound to whoever is the king. Selmy fought on Targaryen side of course during the rebellion, but when his side lost he was pardoned by Robert and served for him. Remember, in the first season when they "fired" him he got really upset because they aren't actually allowed to do that.

So happy to see Bronn back with Tyrion!

I see that Tryion now knows that his whole family is there to fuck him over so I expect his family loyalty to be set aside for personal gain. Both Cersi and Tywin shafted him.

The hour went by too fast :( as will the season.

I was wondering the same thing. like how did Sam and the rest of hte crows avoid the white walkers?

ANd I didn't hear the line in the beginning, did Sam send the ravens or did he forget/.

I found this confusing... did the crows defeat all the white walkers and zombies Sam saw? Was this supposed to be directly connected to the last scene of S2 or was there a time skip?

I just assumed that the Walkers were on the march and a majority bypassed the Crows. They passed right by Sam like it was no big deal, but they probably could also tell he wouldn't be much of a fight.

@DanyM Sam forgot to send the ravens. Was he supposed to send the ravens before they headed North back at their base?

What's the meaning of the title, "Valar Dohaeris"?

Don't dare to explain it because I think it hasn't been explained in the series. I'm a book reader but I don't want to spoil even one bit for show watchers as looking at their reactions is the best thing in the whole series.

Pervert.

I felt bad for not knowing who the guy at the end of the episode was after I've recently rewatched the previous seasons. Davos being alive was a nice surprise but after he's been sent to jail I fear this joy will be short-lived.
Margaerys trying to win the people of King's Landing was smart of her and it will be interesting this new dynamic between her and Cersei.
Sansa making plans with Baelish worries me a little. But when I think that he gains nothing by betraying her I feel better for her safety.
The opening shot of the slave city was beautiful and it seems like a more interesting setting than Qarth. The dialogue between the slave owner and the translator about Daenerys was amusing and those dragons looked impressive.
I love all the characters (except Joffrey whom I want dead) and I can’t wait to see what happens next week.

It doesn't seem like they did. All the Crows had battle wounds / had blood on them, IIRC even the two guys who were with Sam at the end of Season 2.
The enemy camp also mentioned a lot of dead Crows.

I'm confused at which point Sam got the order to send the ravens. Before, during or after the White Walkers attack?
Plus, I really wanted to see how an actual White Walker fights / if they even managed to kill them or just fled.

I...expected the premiere to be better. It was good, just...yeah.
I thought it was top notch. Paced well enough that I could get back into the story and remember the events of the other two seasons without having to actually re-watch them. Plus, the show looks as great as ever (with the CG in particular being quite convincing), and I'm saying this as someone who
watched a 400mb rip of the episode.

A nice start, but things will obviously get better. These days I never expected premieres to be the best that a show has to offer; it's usually always uphill from there.

I love all the characters (except Joffrey whom I want dead) and I can’t wait to see what happens next week.
It's a huge travesty that Joffrey is allowed to keep the throne. "Unfit to be king" is an understatement. Fucking Lannisters (except for Tyrian).

He didn't. Jeor goes all meme mode in that scene "You had one job"

I've been getting that sentiment from a lot of my friends. They still enjoyed it but they all wanted something like the Blackwater episode right off the bat.

I think this episode set the mood pretty well going forward. Especially with next week looking to be pretty jam packed.

This actually happens with all season-long-storied television series. Every new season people complain about things being slow and nothing happening, etc.

For these people I'd advise to not watch a show like this week-by-week.

Ok, so it's a spoiler... thanks for the warning!
Now I don't want to know.

So what's the deal with Tywin? I don't understand his characterization. Does he love his son or not?

Compare the scene towards the end of season 1 where he's telling him to go be acting hand with all the "you are my son that's why" stuff to what he said last night.

I don't get it.

Oh thanks. Do you think Lord Baelish has a crush on Sansa? It's obvious he sees her mother in her? And that under the guise of saving her from Joffrey, he'll get her to marry him? That girl even told Shea watch out for her from him.

Could be. LittleFinger keeps lying to everybody - he told Cathelyn that he had both Sansa and Arya secured. I'd think he's now lying to Sansa about taking her out of the city on that "trip" of his. Same way he did with Ned, he makes promises so people can trust him, which he uses for personal gain. I think he still wants Cathelyn.

I didn't remember the guy at the very end. He sort of came out of nowhere. I don't think Jorah, who obviously loves Daenarys, was too happy about her getting a much better protector and one who can actually help her get the iron throne, not just keep lying no?

As said before, I think Jorah actually believes in Daenarys. He just wants to give her a proper fighting chance.

As for the white walkers, if the Lord Commander and the Nights Watch knew they were back, and that they've been eating that guys sons, why did Ned Stark behead that guy in the first episode? I mean did the nights watch always know they were back?

Like said earlier, nobody believes the Night's Watch anymore and everybody think they are a joke. Since Robert became king, things became somewhat easier for everybody with no direct threat.

Ned killed the Night's Watch guy at the beginning because he deserted. Remember: these are thieves and rapers that go to the Night Watch. The Night Watch is their last chance, and if they can't follow those rules, they'll do anything once they desert.

I mean come on, throw the good guys a freaking bone here. They're getting screwed left and right. Winterfell is burned, bran and rickon are off to the wall but Jon is now with Mance Rayder, Robb and Catelyn come to Harrenhal just a few days after Arya left. It's like everything keeps going bad for the good guys. Imagine how choked Catelyn will be when she hears Winterfell is burned and her kids possibly dead.

Life sucks and then you die. :D
I really like this constant turn of shitty events. makes for much more entertaining television. If I wanted light hearted stuff, I'd watch Friends again.

Also where the hell are all these Eastern cities coming from? I thought the Dothraki were the most powerful, but then you had Qarth and these Spartan type soldiers in the new city. Meaning why wouldn't Viserys have married his sister to one of these people who control a better army than some people on horses?

Like said earlier, Essos (the desert) is much bigger than Westeros. Doesn't help that there's a huge desert (the Dothraki Sea and the Red Waste) separating most of it. Daenerys pretty much traveled the entire extension of Essas, from Pentos (where they originally were) all the way past the Dohtraki Sea, where she was married, all the way to Qarth (after Drogo died) and now all the way to this new Slave city (where I don't quite know where it is).

Qarth is a trade city. It's power comes from the money it has. It doesn't really have an army, but a huge wall that no army in Essas can take down.

The Dothraki are the most ruthless army in Essos, as long as they have a leader. Karl Drogo died and all the warriors scattered as they are looking for a new leader. Daenarys not only isn't a Dothraki, she's also a woman. The only Dothraki that stood by her side were her personal servants, protectors, guards and warriors. Everybody left BEFORE she gave birth to the Dragons.

The Spartan Soldiers are all slaves. A little different type of commodity, but still a city based on trade.

The thing is, because of the massive size of Essas, each city lives in a pocket of their own and excel on something alone. Since both Qarth and the other city are by the sea, they're trade cities.

I meant, Jorah keeps saying over and over, you need to do this first, or do that. First it was needing a contingent of Khalasar, then some money for a ship to sail, now that they have a ship, he wants her to get another army etc.

It seems like he wants her to stay in the Eastern continent and to rule there only and marry her. I feel like he doesn't want to go back to Westeros and keeps making reasons for her to stay.

While he does lover her, they were literally the only two remaining members of a lineage. Before all the Dohtraki thing, It was her and her brother. Now, she has scraps of people from her personal Queen-Dohtraki servants. She can't go to battle.

I mean, look at Stannis. He had how many ships, how many men under his command, and yet, lost horribly trying to attack King's Landing. She can't do shit while she doesn't have her dragons.

And I meant like, the higher ups in the Nights Watch know white walkers have returned. Yet weren't that afraid of them or what they represented. How can you fight something like that?

They are. Except their duty is to fight them. That's what they have trained for for all these years. They should have more members (not only people that chose it as a last chance for life, but actual people, actual warriors) and, in time of need, they would ask for help from all the people of Westeros.

Except that nobody cares about them. They fought a group of White Walkers and won, and now they must go back and let people know of what's happening beyond the wall.

What I didn't understand was the Headmaster (or whatever) of the Night's Watch asking Sam if he sent the crows, as that was his only job. When was that job given to him? Where did he go to send Crows? Where was he coming back from?

He is a lannister. Love does not matter when it comes to blood. Blood is blood.

Tywin cares about the family legacy and its honour. He only care about the future of the house.

So was he two timing Tyrion or something? He said all that "my son" stuff just because he knew it would get him to go?

No. He is his son. His blood and a lannister.

Tyrian can not make a farce out of the house. Even-though he is an imp, things are expected of him.

He must uphold the honour of the house lannister. Thus he cannot fuck whores in the kings hands bed.

family and the legacy first, even if you dont like each other.

Okay, sure. I just don't really get it. So he's a disappointment because he fucks whores and not because he is a dwarf? Or is it because his mother died giving birth to him?

If its any of the latter two, than I don't think Tywin would have sent Tyrion to act as hand in his stead. If its the former, why the hell would you say such horrible things.

It's all of those things. He's a Dwarf who can't battle (like Jayme), he killed his mother being born, he fucks whores and gets drunk. However, he's a Lannister. Tywin can't just cast him aside, it's not the honorable thing to do.

So, even if rare, when the occasion comes up so he can be good, he fucks whores in the bedroom. There's no helping him, in Tywin's mind.

There's nothing that Tyrion could've done that would be good enough for Tywin.

"Yeah, you protected King's Landing, but you're still a Dwarf".

Tywin hates Tyrion because he's a dwarf, Tywins wife died birthing him and he beds whores all the time (Tywin doesn't like whores). But he's pragmatic and knows he's at least capable and he needed someone to reign in Cersei and her spawn.

He is disappointed in him for being an imp, its not the stature of a lion. and he has negative feelings about him because his birth killed his wife.

he is also disappointed in him because of his general lack of discipline, duty and honour and lack of engagement in the families affairs.

Yet he still expects things out of him. Because he is a lanister.

In S1 Tywin thought Jamie was going to be killed or tortured, due to what happened to Ned. He only seemed to accept Tyrion due to needing him. But clearly he will never truly accept Tyrion due to what he is (a dwarf) and what he did ("killing" his mother during childbirth), and the whoring makes it worse.

He's not the first father to hate his son, even though he might rely on his son to do things for him.
