It doesn't really matter that much to me, but I feel like they could've gotten away with the original names. Anytime I talk to anyone about the show, they either read the books and know everyone's "real" names or they're like, "you know that red lady...."

Yeah, I actually have less problems with them using characters to replace lesser characters, like Bronn being named commander of the City Watch rather than introduce Jacelyn.

On another note, what was the reason for changing Cleos Frey to Alton Lannister? just to make it more clear he's on the Lannister side?

It's like they read the books as they go along. They could've had the foresight to realize that Asha is a way more important character than Osha (at least thus far) and changed Osha's name instead.

Just getting into book 3 the only thing this name change does is has me expecting a glorious battle between Asha and Osha at some point. Least with the books I'd say Osha is a more important character up to the end of book 2 at least. With her going of with Rickon I expect that may change though.

Most people I know aren't aware of Daenerys's name at all.

To be fair, even in the books her name is almost never used other than the chapter title or if she's introducing herself to someone.

Was Rickon even IN season 2 though? It's painfully obvious the show producers could give a fuck about Bran and Rickon.

Probably. A lot of Frey characters are MIA. It's probably for the best. Outside of a handful of them, they can be hard to keep track of.

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"

Because House Frey was established in Season 1 as being allied with Robb Stark and the North, but Cleos Frey is allied with the Lannisters. There wasn't any reason at all to keep him named "Frey."

As for Dany, her name is used all the time because she is the third-person narrator so it tends to refer to things that "Dany" says. There's only like 1 person I recall that refers to her by name and she gets mad every time.

Really? I don't remember seeing him at all.

On episode 4. Don't know if I like Jeoffrey being portrayed as a sadist, instead of the dumbass sadist...

Episode 5
ROY DOTRICE! Glad to see they got him in the show. Though I will admit, seeing him in a scene with Tyrion, I kind of wish he had played the Pyromancer in his Tyrion voice.

Wait, the Reeds have been cut altogether? That sucks....

That sucks a lot.

Episode 6

I think that the rewrite to have Arya serving Tywin works very well, I actually think many of the time saving rewrites have worked well. They've managed to make Jaqen even more of a bad-ass. And now that I like the character, I know what GRRM must d- hey Joffrey is awesome... man, I sure hope he doesn't die...

Roy McCann is really shining as Sandor Clegane this season

Spoilers for SoS and beyond:

Does anyone else feel that S2 of the show made Shae out to be more of a heroic or likeable character than she was in the book? I'm kind of hoping that she doesn't betray Tyrion in the TV series.

Yes, will be interesting to see how they handle that in the series. ASOS
Will they do some soap opera shit where they'll end up having some relationship troubles (maybe Tyrion *SHOCK* cheats on her and she becomes bitter over that) or will they simply show the Lannisters torturing her so much that she has no other option but to comply. Because those are the only two options I could see, given how good they are making her seem as a character. Of course it could all be an act, but... with the way she has helped Sansa, I'm not too sure about that.

Similar ASoS level spoilers:
You know, I was struggling at one point to remember if book-Shae was that compassionate or not. That said, I was a bit surprised when she betrayed Tyrion in the book. Maybe not so much when she was sleeping with Tywin, mind you.

Good, I found the Bran chapters in COC painfully boring most the time, least until Reeds show up.
The Reeds showed up in the first half of the book didn't they?

I was glad to finally get a confirmation about Bran's Wolf Dreams and for him to accept that power.

HBO really dropped the ball on Bran's Dreams. The crow ones and the wolf ones.

They did the same thing with Robert Arryn, too. He's called "Robin" in the series since he was around at the same time as Robert Baratheon was still alive.

Robin makes a bit more sense than Robert though as a name change since (series)
He is called Sweet Robin quite a bit later on

Asha and Osha is just plain viewers are to dumb to figure shit out.

Problem is that those sequences have no dialogue, and you need dialogue. It would not surprise me if that was one of the driving reasons to have Arya serve as Tywin's cup-bearer. She needed someone to talk to.

Episode 7
Something that came off just as odd in this episode as the book was Theon logic. I know the guy is not that smart in the books, or the show, but his choice to fake Rickon and Bran's death always came off as very strange. There was nothing to gain by it. He wasn't secretly trying to find them on the side, and using fakes to buy time. He never expects them to surface again and prove him a liar and a fraud. Even in the books it seemed nothing more than a plot hook to drive Catlyn to her decision to break out Jaime.

I always just chalked it up to Theon making incredibly dumb decisions under pressure.

i just finished watching season 2(finished season 1 earlier this week), and i just found the ending of it a bit underwhelming. season 1 was probably the best ten episode stretch i've seen of a television series. some interesting plot development was made in the beginning to middle of season 2 but it all just seemed to fall flat on its face by the end of the season. are unmarked spoilers allowed in this thread? figured i'd ask before i started asking questions/discussing things

If it has aired it's fair game. So discuss anything that occurred in Season 2 without spoiler tags, but future events require tags. If you haven't read the books there's a 'No Book Spoilers' thread you might find better suited to your situation. [This is the book readers thread]

Season 2 finish

A good season. I agree with comments that it wasn't quite up to season 1, but there is so much to cover, I guess it is to be expected. What the heck with the ending with Sam...

Lots of improvements from cast members. I liked Cersei and Danerys a lot more this season. Maisie Williams is really amazing as Arya, they really lucked out on casting.

I was a bit let down at the House of the Undying sequence, but I fully expected it not to live up to the books. It was alright (Really liked the sequence with Drogo), but the book was amazing for this part.

Going to put this next thing under spoilers, it's from COK but wasn't done in this season. How it is handled, of if this thread is going to be cut entirely, who knows. I am not far enough into book 3 to realize how much it matters yet.

I wonder if Winterfell being sacked will be shown in a flashback to show that it was the Bolton's. Just show the Iron Men leaving. Not having the Bolton's do it seems to diminish the event.

And also to the above, how the heck are they going to get Sam back to the Fist. Wonder if he'll just magically be with everyone at start of next season.

I don't doubt that they'll have
the Boltons be responsible for sacking Kings Landing but I doubt they'll use a flashback, they hadn't used any before.

They'll probably just show Sam running away and bumping into everyone else who's retreating. I doubt they're going to show them defending the First.
