Game Pass is hurting day one software sales on Xbox could this push publishers & devs away from Xbox Scarlett or will they wait it out?

Is this a sign of things to come? devs refuse to plant grass for gamers who don't pay cash

If I was really trolling this would be my new thread title

Sure they can and they will but what you will see is when they want to make money you will get a bunch of B tier games like Netflix movies and price hikes. People were going mad for EA access too a few years back which is essentially the exact same thing.
U will get AAA not B tier in future from GP.

Outerworld is not B tier

Where we actually get hard numbers and sales splits theyre almost always 80:20 playstation to xbox. Gamepass might be good for Microsoft long term but its hurting publishers.

This might have been well placed in the gamepass main discussion thread but I see you are doing a 'I told you so' with this bump. 20% across xbox one and xbox series consoles isn't great.

It's not hurting publishers because its just another option for them with certain types of games. Imagine you were releasing the next "Fortnite" type game. What would you do?

I know what I would do. Get some gamepass marketing, some money from MS who has paying subscribers, then monotise them with MTXs. Win win.

Sea of thieves for example is modeled like any other free to play game but they are still selling the game or putting it behind the gamepass subscription. This isn't bad for MS but it is shifting the market to a focus on number of players and MTXs, which is what publishers would be happy to exploit gamepass for.

How many copies does the UK physical sales chart typically represent? 15k, 20k 30k? For a game that will probably move a million units in the first week easy, it is an important distinction in order to know if the data is even relevant or not.

Not that 80:20 is too far off the expected result if the sell through was identical between the two userbases which would be about 66:33 regardless.

Lol physical UK sales only. Who cares? Xbox are doing well with game pass and games still sell day one on Xbox

Maybe they should stop selling physical Xbox games in the UK then if that's the attitude?

Seems like a bit of a waste based on the recurrent sentiment every time news like this surfaces.
