Game Pass on the Nintendo Switch 2?

Gamer79

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
Lots of "leaks" are coming out and saying that Xbox is really interested in getting in bed with Nintendo. Old Phil Spencer also came on and was tooting the old Nintendo horn. I have seen the Mario Kart "9" trailer and the supposed specs of the device. There has to be some secret sauce if Rumors of new coming titles like Indian Jones and the Great Circle and Doom the Dark ages are coming to the new Switch. I also got to believe that Nintendo understands this device needs to last 5 years. There are tons of ports they can make money on so I got to believe they would have that vision in mind. Nintendo does march to the beat of it's own drum so we shall see.

Game Pass could be a real boost for an already monster Nintendo Library and give Microsoft the numbers it needs to start heading towards some profit. It would be a win/win for both. Thoughts? Could this be a match made in heaven?

Nintendo wants an entirely closed/controlled ecosystem. Gamepass is not something they would allow or want on their platform as, for one, it devalues brand new/relatively new games.

There's a reason why NSO only let's you play 20+ year old games "for free".

Edit: The fact Nintendo is trying to sell you Donkey Kong County Returns for fucking $60 goes against everything Gamepass stands for.

I don’t think it happens and if it did it would be a heavily neutered version. Look at Ubisoft+ on PlayStation, it’s limited to classic games on a curated list. It would be something like that.

People playing Gamepass on Switch = people less likely to buy $70 Nintendo published games + Nintendo not making licensing fees on 3rd party games

This. If you believe rumors, apparently Nintendo and Microsoft were in talks to bring GamePass to the original Switch in some form and they fell apart for exactly this reason.

Nintendo would rather Microsoft just port their games to the Switch 2, where they can take their pound of flesh off the top of what will likely be $60 to $70 per game, rather than try to negotiate some revenue-sharing agreement for another company's subscription service.

Nintendo would be stupid putting this into their ecosystem against their own subscription. It can only exist as a wet dream for beggers, dumb enough to not even considerate that or feign ignorance.

Maybe if they offer a Game Pass version with only Xbox games in it, but i don't see the normal Game Pass on Switch or PS.

For Microsoft 1st party?
Maybe. Would be like Ubisoft+. Expensive and only the most extreme fans would want it.

For 3rd party?
No chance. It’ll get people to wait for games to drop on Gamepass rather than buying them from Nintendo’s store, and Nintendo is smarter than that and they have Xbox as a ”living” proof of how that’ll end.

I don't think so. There's a reason why Nintendo consoles has a load of Nintendo games on the top 10 most sold of the console

Nintendo allowing gamepass on Switch 2 would be the single worst move that they could ever make.

Accessing a library of games “for free” will erode the price point on first party games and reduce the number of purchases. Game Pass is a cancer.

As long as MS still has traditional gaming hardware on the market called Xbox Series S and X, you won't see Game Pass on any Nintendo or SIE/Sony consoles.

End of story.

That would be a major win if that would happen. I can see it potentially happen if the switch 2 dissappoints.

Wii U "disappointed" and still got Nintendo massive profits and strong software sales.

At worst Switch 2 will be six Wii Us in terms of sales rather than ten Wii Us Switch 1 looks like it'll end up at. That's still almost 100 million units.

Pretty solid for something that'd disappoint.

I'll kind of paraphrase what I said on another topic here earlier today, but Microsoft putting their games FOR SALE on Sony/Nintendo platforms is the only thing they'd allow. Nintendo, more than anyone else in the industry, has avoided the race to the bottom with game pricing by keeping theirs at MSRP no matter the age( with the odd 30% sale, of course). Its why the only games they offer as part of their sub service are legacy systems and not modern releases. They're staying away from anything that discourages the consumer to buy games, as we've all seen with Xbox which has served to devalue their library. Ultimately, Nintendo wants their core user trained to purchase games and Gamepass is antithetical to this core philosophy.

As for Sony, I'm inclined to think they aren't especially interested in helping Microsoft's push to expand their subscriptions anywhere and everywhere. Instead, they're more than happy to allow Microsoft to put Halo MCC or Gears on PS5 if that means even less reason to buy an Xbox( not like they're even competing on hardware at this point).

Gamepass has been a thing for nearly a decade. If either Nintendo or Sony wanted the service on their ecosystems it would have been a done deal by now.

You should read up on Nintendo's history, I don't think you realize how stone cold and cutthroat those guys truly are.

Switch 2 is going to rock.

Nobody wants gamepass man. Sony dosen't want it, Nintendo dosen't want it etc etc. No one wants a subscription service that destroys your business and will kill you financially on their platform. Nintendo would literally bring a guy dressed as mario out to personally laugh at microsoft 'mammaaaaa miaaaaa you're dumber than bowser' if they even suggested bringing it to the switch 2.

Definitely not a win/win. MS desperately wants GP on everything. Nintendo doesn't need GP in any shape or form. They're fine with taking 30% from whatever MS wants to sell a la carte on the Switch 2.

Yeah I dont think Nintendo want's to get into the Gamepass situation. Unless they somehow get a sweetheart deal from uncle Phil it aint happening. They would lose too much in the form of Nintendo Taxes for each game on the service. Nintendo doesn't need Sony or Microsoft to survive or prosper. Microsoft however is going to need everyone to grow. This puts them in a really bad negoating position IMHO.

I don't think even Microsoft wants game pass to be available on Switch2. They'd make more money selling their games individually on Switch 2 than by giving them away via a subscription service.

Microsoft is a confused company.

This would help Microsoft far more then it would help Nintendo.

Nintendo is one of the very few companies in the world, where their product value remains high, throughout life cycles of said product. Premium product, that fans/consumers are willing to pay a high price for.

Microsoft is the exact opposite of this, in the videogame realm.

Nintendo knows the business game and will see Phil's Game Pass as an attempt to destroy them from within.

Nintendo is not going to let it happen.
