Gamecube Metroid Prime vs Prime Collection?

Hey guys. I'm interested in playing Metroid Prime. My brother owns both the gamecube versions of Prime and Prime 2 (as well as Prime 3 for the wii) and the Prime collection on the Wii U. I own a wii, and since I don't live at home, I don't have access to a Wii U. Is there anything different about the Prime Collection that makes it worth playing over the Gamecube versions?

As far as I know the only difference is the motion controls, which I could take or leave.

Motion controlls makes it possible to aim freely while walking, on GC you must stand still to aim freely. Also 16:9 vs 4:3.

Really love the motion controls in prime personally.

How about widescreen.

But seriously, the motion controls in these are ace.

There is a certain graphical effect missing in prime 1 in the Trilogy version though. The Trilogy versions also have added achievement-things that unlock bonus stuff.

Quite possibly the worse first post in history,

I always laugh when I see a garbage post like this from someone on my ignore list. It's like a reminder. "ah that's how they got on there!" :D

Widescreen is supported and there's an additional (easier) difficulty level, but you've already mentioned the big difference, being the controls.

See here for a fuller list: http://metroid.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Metroid_Prime_version_differences

Edit: here for Prime 2: http://metroid.retropixel.net/games/mprime2/versions.php
and here for Corruption: http://metroid.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Metroid_Prime_3:_Corruption_version_differences

Save yourself the trouble/money and don't play/buy the game.
That really would be a way of missing out on games that need to be played.

Wii Collection. Amazing controls and widescreen.

If it's convenient, I would definitely go for the Trilogy version.

The pointer controls actually change up the flow and pacing of the first two games quite a bit, more so than I was expecting. The clunkiness of the Gamecube control scheme is gone, and everything is a lot faster and smoother as a result. Works well for making traversal and aiming smoother.

Buy The Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii U VC. It's only $20 for all three games. And the Wii Controls really do make it better. Read the OT for more info: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=981644

Also, the game runs faster loading times between rooms since it doesn't have to read off of the disc, this is especially noticeable in Corruption which had very very noticeable wait times to open some doors.

The beam effects in the Gamecube version are Pretty Neat, but unless you're a collector or really into sequence breaking, there's little reason to play the original releases over Trilogy.

well gamecube version lets you sequence break and its more fast paced if you know what you're doing, ] the wii version has a new and a re balanced difficulty modes and widescreen support and spring ball

As he said in the OP, he doesn't have a Wii U.

With that said, it is THE best way to play the games for the price.

I prefer the motion controls. A lot of times I used lock on anyway, but it was nice to have that freedom when walking around. The GC game feels very dated now, like an N64 shooter where you can't strafe.

Also I read the wii u digitial version has faster loading. I played the first game recently and the doors didn't seem to stall like they sometimes did in the GC version.

Theres a few hand effects missing but overrall I much prefer the Wii versions.

edit: I guess the faster loading wont apply if you dont have wii u. Still, I prefer the wii version just for the controls and better freedom of movement.

The downside is that achievments popping up on screen. It's a bit tacky in my opinion.

I already own the trilogy on the Wii U, the problem is I don't own the Wii U. My brother owns it and I don't live at my parents house so I don't have access to it often.

I might just wait until the next time I'm at home for an extended period of time to play it, if the Trilogy really is the superior way to play I want to do that.

What about Metroid Prime 3 though? Is the standard Wii version fine to play or is that improved at all in the Trilogy?

the trilogy verson of prime 3 fixes the hint system bug so it actually turns off when set to off

Save yourself the trouble and don't post in threads where you don't like the game.

By the way OP I prefer the Prime Trilogy everything is in widescreen with Wii Remote support.

I prefer it this way as I can play it without 4:3 borders on modern tv's.

It's all in what you prefer though. If you don't like pointer controls and you don't mind 4:3 aspect ratio go for the GCN versions.

Like motion controls for some odd reason? Go with the Wii trilogy.

I personally avoid motion controls like the plague, but I know lots of people did like them with Metroid Prime, and they are somewhat well implemented, so it's pretty much up to your preference.

The controls alone make the collection worth it. That said, the collection also has widescreen support, rebalanced difficulty for a couple bosses in Prime 2, a new Easy mode, and an achievement system.

Go for the Wii collection, the Wii motion controls are a better, at least IMO

I know you'll never respond to this as your post history says you have a tendency to shitpost and leave, but why did you even bother replying? The OP already had the intention of playing, but was asking which version

I wanna believe you got confused and thought OP referred to Other M.

Otherwise, mind elaborating?

Metroid Prime and Super Metroid are boring games. Dunno about Prime 2 and 3, but I'm saving the OP the trouble of not wasting his time with the original Prime.

There is some weird graphic omissions from the Wii Trilogy such as water not rippling. Other than that the Wii version is better in every way.

Mind if you could describe why Super Metroid is boring? or even Metroid Prime?
I would like to hear your opinion on it and why do you think they are.

Thing is, OP wants to know which version to get, not if the games are good or not. I think he figured out the answer to that question before making this thread.

I rarely see trolling here on Gaf but when I do, it stands out so obviously. I'm pretty baffled here honestly.

Hey guys. I'm interested in playing Metroid Prime.

Is there anything different about the Prime Collection that makes it worth playing over the Gamecube versions?

So reading comprehension escapes you I see

Also, I just remembered that no matter where you play the trilogy collection, the load times in Prime 1 and 2 are almost non-existent, since they were modified to take advantage of the Wii's extra RAM. Should be about the same as the original for Prime 3, though, as mentioned above, playing a digital copy on Wii U helps a bit with that.

what I think I'll do is wait until the end of august and play while I'm home for a couple weeks until school starts back up again, thanks guys
