Gamecube Metroid Prime vs Prime Collection?

you'll want the Trilogy on Wii. pointer controls >>> *

Prime 1 and 2 weren't made with such controls in mind but it's a non factor

Metroid Prime and Super Metroid are boring games. Dunno about Prime 2 and 3, but I'm saving the OP the trouble of not wasting his time with the original Prime.

You should also save yourself the trouble of not wasting your time posting garbage.

To the OP; I prefer the motion controls for the Prime games myself, but they do also "fix" some exploits that are favorable for speedrunners. If that doesn't really bother you then I really recommend Trilogy over the GC releases.

I must be the only person who absolutely cannot stand the motion controls. It's so awkward and I've never gotten used to it. Of course it may be partially due to my setup, which isn't exactly optimal

I'm in the minority (like always) but I did not like the motion controls of MP1/2. It didn't bother me in 3 because the game was developed with motion controls in mind. Personally I loved the awkward-at-first and unusual original control method and when playing the game you get used to it fairly quick.

I've played both the gamecube and wii version and I'd say that the motion controls are an improvement. As others have said the wii version has widescreen. Also retro went back and improved the textures for prime 1 & 2, so there's that as well.

I already own the trilogy on the Wii U, the problem is I don't own the Wii U. My brother owns it and I don't live at my parents house so I don't have access to it often.

I might just wait until the next time I'm at home for an extended period of time to play it, if the Trilogy really is the superior way to play I want to do that.

What about Metroid Prime 3 though? Is the standard Wii version fine to play or is that improved at all in the Trilogy?

In my humble opinion, doing the extended play session on the Wii U would be your best bet. In addition to getting the fantastic Wii controls and widescreen, the Wii U also does a nice job upscaling Wii games. I've been surprised at how nice they look (though I guess I shouldn't be; this remains one of the best trilogies in all of gaming -- I'm stoked for you to play it). Plus, the games do such a great job of world building that playing them in close succession makes for a great experience.

The changes in Metroid Prime 3 are extremely minimal (to the effect of "this music fades in a few seconds sooner," "we lowered the camera angle slightly on this cutscene"). You can view a full list of changes here, but it includes very minor spoilers.

EDIT: I am sorry BkzUzi hijacked your thread with his offensively terrible opinions.

Oh god, OP, please don't play with the Wii mote. You get free aim but it's neither comfortable nor as accurate as you'd want, you will just be using the lock on either way. Also the button mapping isn't very good and using the map and missiles is super cumbersome and frustrating. Just play the gamecube version, please.

Save yourself the trouble/money and don't play/buy the game.

You sir have absolutely no credibility after that post unless you were fishing for credibility as a troll. Games are legendary and constantly quoted and hailed for fantastic bosses, pacing, atmosphere, mechanics, and for managing to be unique to this day in comparison to any other FPS...so much so folks often make threads begging to know if there are other games like them.

EDIT: oh wait now I remember you...you tend to show up, post something to incite people and leave. Move along folks because this guy tends to troll a lot and he's really goin in hard on this one.

The Wii version for sure. Widescreen support and Wii pointer controls blow any silly missing effects (that you won't even miss) out of the water. Easy, easy decision, and I've beaten the game 3 times on Cube and twice on Wii.

Save yourself the trouble/money and don't play/buy the game.

The Wii versions of Metroid Prime are easier with the motion controls as well - maybe it's because I played GC Prime back when I was a kid but its just so much more comfortable with free aim on Wii than it was on GameCube pad.

See how the game plays for you on GameCube if you don't have the WiiU handy because the disk based Metroid Trilogy is ridiculously expensive. It's still a fantastic game on GameCube but personally I prefer Wii version.

Hey guys. I'm interested in playing Metroid Prime. My brother owns both the gamecube versions of Prime and Prime 2 (as well as Prime 3 for the wii) and the Prime collection on the Wii U. I own a wii, and since I don't live at home, I don't have access to a Wii U. Is there anything different about the Prime Collection that makes it worth playing over the Gamecube versions?

As far as I know the only difference is the motion controls, which I could take or leave.

Go with the GameCube version in that case. Depending on the version, certain small bug fixes are present and sequence break techniques have been removed (in addition to HUD updates and little sound bites, such as "Creature added to logbook", etc).

The Wii version features some of the fixes, the removal of a few minor visual effects, a token system for unlocking additional content (in contrast to linking up a Gameboy Advance with Metroid Fusion), and of course the motion controls.

While I prefer the GameCube controls, they are perhaps less approachable. I think the Wii version is definitely a great alternative, especially with the inclusion of its sequels. If you enjoy Metroid Prime, make sure to check out the Echoes and Corruption sequels.

The WiiU version of Prime 3 does have some improved loading times. The original version can have some downtime as you wait for the doors to open as things load, and it's quite faster in the WiiU version. There was a video in the official thread I think that showed comparing them, and the difference can be pretty big.

Wii Trilogy collection is amazing, with excellent controls that shows why the Wiimote was so amazing for shooters. Switching weapons constantly and quickly isn't that great, but that's minor and the only notable downside. Plus the Trilogy gives the first two games the spring ball, which makes morph ball jumping so much easier.

Mind if you could describe why Super Metroid is boring? or even Metroid Prime?
I would like to hear your opinion on it and why do you think they are.

My biggest problem with the series is the map system and the backtracking. Yes, hate on me all you want, but I prefer a linear system instead of an area with multiple branching paths so it doesn't feel like I'm wasting my time. :)

edit: oh hey, you actually gave a reason! ...so you just don't like non-linear exploration games as a whole and then go and tell other people not to play them?

No, there are some I enjoy. I don't hate all metroidvania games, there are some games that do it correctly such as Guacamelee. I don't hate that game, since the game always gave you some sort of indication of what to do, and I don't remember much backtracking from what I've played. Metroid on the other hand, I can't say the same.

At this point you're just stirring up shit since you know full well those are some of the most beloved and acclaimed games EVER and you're pooping on them without any form of explanation in a thread where someone just wants to know which version is preferable.

Stick > motion controls

Wii was a mistake. It's nothing but trash.

Thanks.^^

Well that's okay, at least for me, not everyone likes backtracking in games.
Thanks for stating your opinion about that and why you dislike Super Metroid and Metroid Prime.

Save yourself the trouble/money and don't play/buy the game.

Man, you consistently have the worst opinions on everything.

At least you explained your reasoning, though. But still, damn.

Edit: Actually, no. If you don't like the series, why the fuck would you be in a thread about it?

Wii version has better enemy ai, superior motion controls, true widescreen support, better lighting, better loading times, and updated textures.

It also has the other 2 games on the disc with similar improvements.

Absolutely no reason to go with the GC one price is really irrelevant.

Guys help me out here, i can't figure out if he is trolling or not :(

Wiimote IR aiming make the games even more perfect, so I'd definitely go with the trilogy.

Prime 1 and 2 with the arm cannon feeling like an extension of your *own* arm is gaming nirvana.

It doesn't really matter if you just want to play it once, either is fine. The game is built around the GCN control scheme, pointer controls are shoehorned in. The original GCN release is best for all the little tricks for sequence breaks though. Retro decided to fix those harmless exploits in subsequent releases.

Don't bother, just look at his post history.

Yup, at least he's consistent in both gaming and OT with the shit posting.

I,must be doing sorething wrong because I found the motion controls to be absolutely garbage,

There are three possibilities.

1. You're not on the highest sensitivity settings
2. There is some sort of IR interference going on.
3. You're not used to and/or are bad at the controls

This is the part I don't get. Justify shit-posting in a thread about Metroid by saying "Well I don't like Metroid..."

Feels on par with going into a thread about someone who wants to prepare for The Phantom Pain and the first post being "I hate stealth games, so don't waste your time playing MGS at all"

Stick > motion controls

Wii was a mistake. It's nothing but trash.

I know a lot of people love the motion controls for Prime but I feel the same way about this as the quoted poster. I downloaded the Prime Collection and Galaxy 2, two of the most highly rated games of all time, and gave up on both within a few hours each. I fucking hate Wii motion controls. If OP really is completely neutral to the motion controls, they should be fine with the Wii version which is otherwise superior.

I've played to same point on both versions of Prime, which admittedly isn't far into the game (after the first major boss a few hours in), but I prefer the motion controls, specifically the completely free aim scheme.

These are two of the most celebrated games in history and both are routinely referred to as some of the best games on their respective consoles. It's fine not to like them but to even begin to pretend that your opinion will be widely shared or accepted is pretty foolish. Assuming you're not trolling, it makes for pretty shitty advice to assume that others will share your very *ahem* unique opinion, especially when OP has already decided he wants to play them.

OP: I prefer the GameCube controls. The motion controls are surprisingly good although there is an adjustment period. Go with whatever feels right in your hands.
