Games you beat where there was an important move you completely missed?

So's somehow I missed that you could do the quick turn in RE4 remake.

Whole times I was playing I was like, yeah but this game is kind of crud because it doesn't even have the old RE4 quick turn.

Recently I didn't knew that ashley can block the armours with the blue torch so i never used it and just dribbled the fuckers.

Back in the day I got a Japanese N64 with Mario 64 from an importer on the week it came out - we played through most of the game not knowing there was the crouch jump that would propel you forward - amazed we got so many stars without knowing what was even going on. We ended up only finding out about the jump from reading a "tip" on Teletext (digitiser). We must have played for many many hours without knowing how to do that.

The move you get per weapon in Horizon Forbidden West. Like the AoE arrow rain (orange bar move) and the big ones in the talent trees. I knew they were there, but I never used them.

Hi-Fi Rush. Once I got the parry, I never dodged again.

Consumables items in Souls games and actually a lot of games : I never use them. I consider it cheating.

I've never parried or backstabbed in any Souls game or Bloodborne. That becomes a big pain in the ass when you finally get to some boss where you more or less need to do it to beat it..

Never summoned any other player or NPC for help either, if that counts. But that's just because I consider it cheating.

Can't mention any specific game but generally I never ever block in games either and just dodge instead.

This…i finish games with stacks over stack of consumables…outside of potions, i bever use consuables for buffs…i just forget about them until i see the stacks in the inventory

There's lots of upgrades you can miss in the original Metroid 1 and 2. Same for Zelda 1 and ALTTP, especially sword power-ups.

I don't remember good examples, but if it counts, I beat all the Souls games and I never felt I had a proper build, or even proper skills, each time I got to the final boss.

BotW - didn't realise you could use the Master Sword projectile like you could in the original LoZ until I saw my lad playing it.

Yeah I find all that upgrade shit in Horizon games just incredibly, incredibly tedious. I ended up finishing the game with about 50 skill points in hand because I just found the whole process such a turn off. Literally the only weapon in the whole game I found to be a really enjoyable upgrade were those javelin things, but I only even found them after I'd beaten the main story. All the rest is just too boring to even think about. In the end I just bought the first 'very rare' bow I found, upgraded it as quickly as possible, and left it at that.

In Castlevania Circle of the Moon, I completely missed that you needed an item to get immunity to the sewers so I just kludged my way through it by abusing the temporary invulnerability from getting hit and rushing through the area. I managed to beat the boss and completely sequence break the game without meaning to.

One item blocked all heat actions in Like a Dragon Ishin so I played through it that way.

In Batman Knights you could unlock some kind of glider, I missed it for whatever reason and played through the game without it. Well, it wouldn't have been much better with the glider.

I beat Crysis 2 without customizing the weapons. I think the game teaches you how to do it? But I forgot, so I had do with whatever I found.
In BotW I only used Shield Bash to reflect the Guardian attacks (and shield surfing), but never the other mobs.

Street Fighter 3 series. Never bothered to figure out parry, failed the volleyball bonus stage everytime.

Also double jump in Castlevania 64.

Beat BOTW without shield surfing, parrying, or slow mo attacks. I spread my playthrough over three years so I guess I just forgot.

I played a ton of Meteos without knowing how the game actually worked.

It's not a miss but intentional, but I beaten two times all three Dark Souls without parrying or blocking, I only use two handed swords and dodge in Souls games. Same for Bloodborne, I never used the guns.

Didn't know you could unlock new finishers and moves in Ryse. My first playthrough felt a bit repetitive that way.
