Games you just didn't "get"...

What are some games that seemingly everyone else loves but despite you giving it a fair chance, its still beyond you how anyone could find it fun?

For me:

-Super Smash Brothers-I've tried to get into, everytime I have a debate with someone who argues SSBM deepest fighter out there(more deep than VF4) I try. But it still remains the most boring fighter I've ever played.

-Katamari Damacy-Bought it as part of GS' used game deal, and despite having to force myself NOT to put down, I pick it up every now and then thinking its me, but 15mins later I give up and throw it aside.

Resident Evil 4. I like watching other people play it, but I hate doing it myself. I don't understand what is so mind blowing about a game permanently stuck in the Splinter Cell aiming-mode coupled with context sensitive actions.

Oh, and the story was really, really lame.

I don't think that I have ever just not "gotten" a game that everyone else liked. I may not play through every popular game, but I never dismiss them either.

Anyway, it should be amusing to see how many say "Halo-it's like people never played FPS games before!" in this thread.

PAPER MARIO 2

But i doubt anyone actually likes it, its more like "hey look at me im playing this weird looking nintendo game i bet you all think im pretty hardcore dont you" thing going on.

Yes yes yes. I bought it when it came out on the 64, didn't see the big deal, but still bought it at launch with the Cube and again didn't see the big deal. At least Powerstone had a little depth to it. Smash Brothers is a one button bore.

oh where to start lol

devil may cry series
katamari games
dragons quest 8
gta3/gtavc/gtasa
mario party games
breath of fire 5

all these games, praised so much, but i found them so boring

Oh yeah, the original Mario & Luigi and all the REs (well, the ones I played) up till RE4. Which somehow jumped to one of my three favourite games ever. Quite the turn around.

I don't even like Nintendo very much these days, and I loved Paper Mario.

Nearly any Capcom/SNK fighting game- I've just never had the time to invest in mastering them enough to truly appreciate them, and I haven't been much of a fighting game fan anyway since I stopped spending 20 bucks in quarters every weekend at the 7-11 playing SF 2: CE. I can certainly see the appeal though, and I like 2D.

Sim Racing Games- I love arcade racers, but sim racing just bores me to death. On the other hand, I like realistic sports games (like Winning Eleven) but since I don't really give a shit about cars, 95% of the genre is lost on me.

3d Platformers- They just don't captivate me like the 2d platformers did. It may have something to do with the fact that I'm in my 20's now and have just "outgrown" the genre (not to imply that it's necessarily kiddie). I don't think I've completed one in ages though, and thankfully I don't buy them anymore either.

The Pikmin titles. Both. Seems everyone likes at least one of them.

Yeah, I played these and can't seem to get into it for long (I own both), just not my thing so far. I want to give Pikmin 2 another try one of these days though

Also, Advance Wars, which I just don't really "get" that much despite playing quite a bit of the first two for GBA. It's weird, because I like Disgaea and FFT, but I can't seem to get into AW.

Funnily enough, despite my dislike for M&L, I adore this game.

I don't know how people can claim SSBM doesn't have depth. I can understand not liking it, nothing is universally liked, but not having depth? I can't imagine people could have spent more than an hour with it to think that.

Keep thinking of stuff. Fire Emblem I couldn't even take an hour of. Maybe it gets better, I'll probably never know. Earthbound. Halo is...it's kind of fun, but the praise it gets? I'll never understand.

Every sim racer I've ever played. Which amounts to Gran Turismo...ermm I dunno which, one of the PSX ones, and PGR. Actually, I liked the one track demo of Metropolis Street Racer I played back in the day. Dunno why.

Kingdom Hearts 1

I really don't understand what's so great about it, cumbersome camera system, mediocre battle system... gummi ship!

that said I'm buying Kingdom Hearts 2.

Metal Gear Solid 3 - The first hour or so is just such an incredible bore, I wasn't able to make it to the "good" stuff. And I loved the rest of the series.

Shadow of the Colossus - ICO is my favorite game of this gen, but SotC just struck me as completely shallow and repetitive. I got up to Boss 9 and gave up. I'm sure I'll go back and finish it eventually, but it's definitely one of the most disappointing games I've ever played.

I guess I'll throw in Pikmin as well.

BG&E. The story is ****! Don't you people realize?! ****!

SotC is also vastly overrated. You'd think it was the second coming or something...

I do love the horse control/animations though.

edit: Yeah Kingdom Hearts is way overrated too. I completely don't understand that one.

Tic-Tac-Toe.

The only game where you usually have to play 15+ times to get a winner, and usually that only happens because the loser gets bored and loses concentration.

Metroid Prime. God, I love it visually, supreme design, and I understand what it's trying to do. But you know, the design is so good that it always felt like designed areas rather than me exploring wilderness. Completely ruined that aspect of the game, and I didn't care much for the rest.

definitely SSBM.. never understood why so many people love it.. I'd rather play Tekken or soul calibur

You need some friends that are pretty good at the game to fully enjoy it imho, you would be amazed how intense and fun the battles can get. Also the gameplay is deeper then you would think, from the little details of catching items, to the reflecting shields and items being thrown at you.

HALO
Pretty standard FPS. I never saw "THE AMAZING AI THAT WILL PLAY CHESS AGAINST ITSELF THEN FORM A COMPLEX ATTACK THE LIKES OF WHICH YOU'VE NEVER SEEN". Al I saw was the same 4 enemies doing the same things over and over.

MGS
It just isn't fun and the gameplay is far from polished.

Pikmin
Metroid Prime
Viewtiful Joe
Halo
MGS

although I thought MP was alright, and I guess I didn't play pikmin that much mite get around to it again sometime, I thought VJ was dire though. I've completed Halo and thought it was pretty average for a pc fps tbh
