Games you remember, names you don't

Found/remember it.

It's called Stratosphere: Conquest of the Skies.

I remember really enjoying putting a whole of bunch of spikes on my flying island and then ramming in to some other jerk island.

Not isometric but Last Duel, perhaps?

I got one: it was an arcade racer. I remember playing it at Sargent Singer's in the Galleria (long since become neutered into a Tilt!).

It was in a cocktail type cabinet with a four player setup (one on each side). The view was top down as you drove through various locals. At the end of each stage you could upgrade your car with different wheels (fat tires, radials, etc.) and other stuff.

I loved this game back in the day. Anybody have any ideas what it's called?
 
I remember an old SNES game where you played as a monkey and it was kind of a puzzle game. I've always tried to figure out what it was but I can never remember. :( I can barely remember it; I think it was released late in the SNES's life-cycle but I'm not sure.
 
Two arcade games that were around in the 90s, so this should be easy.

The first was 2-player, one person drove a car (your view was constantly from within the car) while also having a gun to shoot, the other person simply having another gun to shoot. You drove straight forward (the steering/brakes were more of a dodging/slow-down mechanism than actual driving) and your characters were basically straight out of Miami Vice. The whole game was mostly made up of 2D sprites.

The second was also a 2-player game, but had a single-player vs CPU mode. It was a fast-flying dog-fighting game in the most linear sense of what dog-fighting is. You got to choose one of a few different planes (one a jet, another a bi-plane, interesting designs here) and essentially you and your opponent would take turns attacking or dodging. Either you would be shooting at the enemy in front of you while dodging obstacles that the level threw at you, or you would be dodging the other plane's gunfire while, again, dodging the obstacles of the course ahead. This was a fully 3D game in as much as Virtua Fighter was 3D.

There was a demo on Playstation Underground for a PS1 game. All I remember was that it was a top down shooter and there were aliens or bugs in it. For some reason I am thinking scorpions.

Ok, I think this one is going to be tough because I do not remember much. Sometime in the mid 80's (1985 - 1987?) my brother had a computer, and I do not remember what kind it was. I remember very little from the game other than I remember a castle, maybe a dragon, and some kind of knight? I have such vague memories of it other than really being enchanted by it as a kid. I believe the game Load Runner was also on this computer (I know this probably doesn't help too much).

Sorry for the lack of details.

Edit: And I'm pretty certain the computer was not a C64
Edit: Now that I think about it more, it may have been a Macintosh or some kind of Apple computer

Final Edit: I figured it out myself! It is Dark Castle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Castle

That's really odd. Yesterday I got a hankering to figure out what this game was. Spent some time on Moby games and finally narrowed it down to Stratosphere.


Managed to find a copy in a bay with some pirates running around. Figured nobody else in the world even remembered this game.

Arcanum. There's also a game called Anachronox, but it's not really top down and doesn't have much of a character sheet.
 
Alright this is going to be a hard one.

It's a Famicom/NES game that I played back in around 1993 and my parents traded in not long after we got it. These are the only clues I can remember:
  • It's a platformer.
  • The boss is stage 2 requires you to move back and forth to beat (doesn't make much sense but that's how I remember it... =( )
  • Stage 3 is a "fire stage" or there's something that makes it seems hot.
  • Stage 6 is a side scrolling shooter sort of, and during the boss fight there are random stuffs dropping at you from nowhere.
  • Game must be really really easy that we managed to beat it when we were in kindergarten.

Old Sega Genesis game where you shot guns and maybe rode dinosaurs. I think it had like a semi top down view. And maybe one of the main characters wore like a Crocodile Dundee hat.

No ideas? It was a really neat game for PC. I don't think you ever saw your character or moved him around the screen, you just went from screen to screen making decisions.

Hot Rod. I played the hell out of that back in the day in an arcade that was called Gold Mine.

When I was in the 4th grade or so I used to play this game on the Apple ][ where you answered arithmetic problems on the number line. You'd move the ship to the right number and fire and try to hit, I believe, a hidden ship which was located only at the right answer.

This is how I taught myself about the negative numbers on the real line.

I remember it being "Laser" something, but would love to remember the name. No idea about colors because we only had a green monochrome monitor.
 
Back in the days of Funcolands and the birth of the Saturn and PSX there was a preview for a game in Game Informer magazine for something that appeared to be what I know today as Snatcher, but I think it had a different name like "AM2" (not Sega's AM2) or something short like that.

I remember it having something to do with a computer or a non humanoid robot killing people and having a very similar graphic style to Snatcher.

It was probably a sega cd game, but may have never been released outside of Japan. It appeared to have blood and violence and I remember being pretty creeped out by the screenshots.

I wish I never trashed my magazines!

I want to say Space Adventure Cobra, but it goes against a few of your descriptions. Perhaps it wasn't for the Sega CD? Anyway, thats the closest game I can think of because it plays almost exactly like Snatcher.

Haven't played Space Adventure Cobra, but I love the tv series and I'm pretty sure that's not it. I would love to play that though! The new arcade game is fun. I am not sure it was a Sega CD game after having looked through wiki's list just now. I still feel like it's solidly in that era of gaming. Was Policenauts a dark game? The graphics reminded me so much of Snatcher that I can't get over that connection!

Okay, here's one.

C64 game. You were a flying tea pot, and it had 2 player co-op in it. You guided these tea pots through various sidescrolling mazes. I was positive it was called Kettleworks until I just searched around the internet for it. Any ideas?

Never mind, my brother found it. It was just called Kettle.

Fun fact. Antony Crowther, the guy that programmed it, still works in games. In fact, he worked on Burnout Paradise!

Supersnooper or something like that. That was a great game back in the day.

I remember a Neo-geo game I played at an airport one time which was a brawler. A ton of enemies on one side and another would just jump in. After you beat a few levels you could choose from some of the enemies to fight with. I remember finding the name of the game but now I forgt.
 
I remember a badass game I had on the Sega Genesis as a kid. It was a football game, but it was set in the middle ages, so all the players were like Knights or something, and instead of tackling or blocking the other players you actually killed them.

Any idea what game I'm talking about?

There was this game on PS1, I think it was set in France or Great Britain, wherein you were a hunter of monsters and the like. I remember the first level was easy, introduced you to zombies and the inventory and what have you, until the first thing that was scary was a werewolf.

And you didn't fall in the water at any point, or this tentacle monster thing would eat you, although that might have been a boss fight...

There were also these Incredible Hulk-looking things, except they were blue. We called them the Big Blue Dudes. They could move really fast, and were effing strong.

The thing I remember most distinctly about this game is that there was a cheat code that let you play as a monster, with a different monster on each level. It was really fun, except on one level you played as a zombie, and could only shuffle around impotently.
 
I remember this game on NES that was a 2 player game. It seemed like a mario game (actually not at all, just I remember the main guy was red suited and the other was either green or blue).

It was a shooting game but it wasn't contra. It was like a birds eye view game with tanks and shit.

That game was awesome.
 
It was this game for ps1 I think. It was some sort of puzzle game where Id hit some button and the entire room would rotate... I can barely picture it.
 
okay it was an adventure game,it was divided in acts,in act 2 you played a princess that was turned into some sort of gnome,you could die (so maybe a sierra game?) it had a fantasy theme and cartoonish graphics... any idea?
