Games you remember, names you don't

Ok so what was the name of that game that featured giant monsters fighting each other. I remember it was on Nick Arcade when I was little kid. I can hardly remember any other details besides the fact that they had one humanoid giant while the rest looked more like traditional giant monsters that you'd see in movies.

Yay, my favourite thread lives again!

King Of The Monsters. There were a couple of games in the series. Neo Geo titles, although I imagine they may have been ported to other platforms.

Mid to late 90's Mac FPS which involved Nazi's and opening a lot of doors/secret passages with different colored rocks/gem/crystals.

(Hate to be that guy, but flip to the new page.)

Okay, I have one: PC, 1995 or 1996. It was a puzzle game where the playfield was a square with stacks of cubes in the lower left corner. The upper left corner had a diagonal "stairs" wall above the stacks of cubes. You would move up and down the right side of the screen and shoot cubes to the left, and you could use the stairs corner to aim at the cubes that were further back in the pile. The cubes had different icons on them, and the object was to clear the entire pile of cubes.

I knew it as Plotting, although I imagine it has had other names.

Edit: Wikipedia suggests it was also called Flipull.

Here goes:

This was an old arcade game with tiny, detailed sprites. You could run around on foot shooting, or race around in a car. The closest modern analogue would be Assault Heroes, but the sprites were way smaller than that.

Every time I try this I get suggestions for similar games, but no-one has ever nailed the exact one.

Have at it gang!

Ikari Warriors?

I have such a vague memory of this one, but here's what I remember. I saw it in an Electronics Boutique around 1989 or maybe 90'. It was a PC game. Some kind of action adventure. What I do remember was it was sci-fi, had green alien things, and it had blood. I think thats why I remember it. Green aliens and blood. This one has been bothering me for a while.

Trying to remember the name of a NeoGeo game that was a 2D side shooter where you could turn into a machine. The heroes were in red and blue trim and wore berets.

My hero! The one I played was a mirror image of this, but that's indeed it.

Here's one that has been bothering me lately. While in College I saw a floor-resident playing the following game. Due to the time-frame I could have seen this (due to the dorm I know I saw it in), the game must have been released prior to the end of 1995, but more likely I saw it in fall of 1994. I have the impression that it was a new-ish game at the time I saw it, but I could be wrong.

It was an RPG, seemed standard fantasy/medieval theme, the interface was mostly point-and-click (so, somewhat first person view, but not 3d movement) and on the bottom line "HUD" the party members was displayed in Oval shaped frames.

I've done a check of some online game repositories, and I have yet to see an RPG screen-shot from this era with those Oval Frames for the faces of party members... That was the thing that is most clearly remembered. What on earth did I see being played?

Sure it wasn't Might and Magic V? The stand alone "World of Xeen" version (which was IV and V combined into one game) was released in 1994 on CD-ROM. The frames of the party aren't ovals, they're rectangular but it sounds very similar otherwise.

Edit: Possibly "Betrayl at Krondor"?

It's possibly too well-known to be the thing you're trying to get, but that doesn't sound a million miles away from Smash TV.

I never played it, but I saw a video for an XBLA game a couple years ago - it was first person and you shot paintballs to reveal the structure of the level. Mostly black and white. I remember there being some horror elements to it as you revealed words in the level as well...I thought it looked so cool. Anybody remember this?

Need help with a game,

Was kinda like a team shooter, but you were in mechs and I think it was third person. It was cel-shaded but the real clue was that it was an arcade only game. Probably only released in Japan too. Anyone?

The only thing that comes to mind is the original Virtual On.

Looked it up, and nah. I saw it about 1~2 years ago, I think the mechs or people you selected were assigned roles too (medic, sniper, etc.) not sure though. I've been googling but Arcade Japanese Mech Cel Shaded doesn't bring up much. :lol

I got one:

It's an old pc game, if I had to guess I'd say it's from 1991-1993. It was a medieval side-scrolling action game (not that heavy on action) and the main gimmick was that the game was played entirely in silhouette. That's all I can remember. I didn't play it too far, because I can remember it being quite hard, but I was pretty young back then and I was just discovering PC gaming.

Any ideas?

No one? It's kinda driving me nuts.

We've already had it. Blade Warrior.

This Atari 2600 game I can't seem to remember the name... it was a side-scrolling shooter, you were a car that shot Horizontal + Vertical and you had to jump over holes in the ground / obstacles. The song poped in my head today, and for the life of my I can't remember the name.

Nah, its not Smash TV. All I remember is that it was from 1989-1990 and had had lots of gore and aliens, and was for the PC. As a little kid I saw the blood and gravitated to it.

I'm pretty sure you're thinking of Moon Patrol. Used to play it a lot as a kid, both on the Atari and in the arcade. I know exactly what you mean about the music popping into your head. :lol

There was an arcade racing game back in the early 90's I think. The unit was a round table, all around it were steering wheels for each individual player. The screen sat in the table looking up. The gameplay was an overhead view and you lost by falling behind on the screen.

I'm looking for the name of two FC games that I played on a multicart back in the day.

Game A:

You play against a computer on a flat surface. You each have 5 balls to start with, you can throw the balls to the other side (and ocassionally bombs too) the side with less balls when the timer stops wins.

I think you play as a penguin.

Game B:

Tetris-liked two players game. Blocks fall from above and to clear them you need to shoot blocks from your aircraft to form a rectangle sort of.

I haven't seen either of them for almost 15 years now, but they both are really fun from what I can remember :D .

This sounds like Sega's Hot Rod.

Game A sounds exactly like Penguin-kun Wars for FC or GB, known as Penguin Wars here in the US, was released on GB.

Game B sounds like Quarth, released by Konami on the GB, also got Arcade, MSX, and FC ports.

i remember this game in the arcades back around 94-96

- football/soccer game
- sometimes a nakid woman would run across the screen
- 2d sprites, but had 3d effects

I remember playing some 2d platform on PC a long time ago... some kid with blue cloths wearing a red helmet and shooting laser from it i think. There was some kind of egyptian theme in the maps and music... There was also a bunch of puzzles(or was it gathering some kind of items?) and backtracking to do so i could open a path or finish a zone if i remember right. Totally forgot the name, but i had a lot fun with it.

Super Solvers: Challenge of The Ancient Empires. That's a common one to *just* remember :-)

Yup that's the game... I probably played in the Arcade too, thanx!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. :lol Was it a well known game back then?

But yeah, that's the game!

OK, this was an Arcade 2 VS 2 fighting game that played more like Double Dragon and Final Fight than Street Fighter but it wasn't a side scrolling beat 'em up. It was either a late 80's or early 90's game and it predates SF2 and probably FF too. I think it was made by a Japanese company and might have had a TG-16 port (or maybe it was Genesis).

Hmmm...Street Smart?

I'm having trouble remembering an old PC game... looked and played similar to old Might & Magic games but worse. It was not popular by any means.
I would guess it came out late 80s, early 90s.
I remember there were 3 of this game: "_____ 1" "_____2" and "_____ 3." I had each game on a 3.5" floppy disk.

The title of the game escapes me... I don't remember if it was one word or three. For some reason I think the word "fire" might be involved. Or "fro..." I can't simply get it out of my brain!

Okay, not sure if this counts as a game but... back in elementary, amongst number munchers and oregon trail, there were two other educational games that I played on the Apple I and II that I cannot remember.

One was a game where you would dig and you would mine for different minerals and then either calculate how much you could sell it for.

Second was a point and click adventure where you lead a guy through a cavern. I remember whenever he got to a certain trouble point, it would say "uh oh!". There was a place where you had to climb a rope, click on bats to kill them, and pick up his equipment after he fell down.

Anybody have any clues?

Magic Candle? Mainly based on the fact that the dates are about right and I *think* there were three of them.

I've got two NES games in my head that I've thought of for years, but can't remember for the life of me their names.

The first one seemed to be about some sort of witch, or something like that. In the game, If I remember correctly, you flew across the screen on some sort of broom or something like that. I can barely remember the boxart seeming to have like a good looking witch, or something like that on the front cover (I could be wrong, it's been like 20 years)

The other game I can't remember nearly as well. All I can remember about it was that it was some sort of platformer that you played as a boy, and you seemed to have like this furry little creature that could either help you or would follow you. The game also had pretty bright colors.... and that's all I can remember about that game. A great description, I know :lol

If anyone has any remote idea about either of these games, I'd be like eternally grateful. They pop up in my head every now and then, but it drives me crazy that I can't remember their names.

This one actually sounds like The Krion Conquest by Vic Tokai. Played somewhat like Mega Man in that you had your witch with multiple powers that she could switch through at will, and lots of platforming and shooting. It was known as Magical Doropie on the FC....
