Games you remember, names you don't

monstersgenitalssimilary.jpg

anyone know the name of this game ? :/

Oh lord, this is going to be hard, but it'd be amazing if anyone could work it out.

I remember playing a PC game in my childhood that featured a square based pyramid, with a square summit.

I can only vaguely remember the goal was to run around the mountain in an anti-clockwise direction, and dodging things (a grasshopper or something that leapt in a certain pattern rings a bell, as does a frog with a tongue, or something).

It was a 3D games, with blue skies and green grass texture on the hill.

If anyone could help me out, it'd be awesome! Thanks!

EDIT:

Just remembered another one. There were yellow lemons (or some kind of yellow creatures) that you had to lead through doors. It was a white map, with gray walls and doors, IIRC.

It's for MSX. I remember playing it as a teen but have no idea what it was called.

Thexder.

I recognised it straight away, but couldn't recall the name immediately, but a quick google for "enmax msx" - enmax being the most unusual word visible on the screen - quickly confirmed the name.

There was some old PS1 mech/robot game where you didn't actually control the machines, but programmed scripts for them to run during combat. Does anyone remember the name? (I could have just imagined it and such a game might have never existed, lol but I think it is real!)

OK Gaf, here's one for you.

This will have been from around 1988-96i guess, was a side scrolling shooter where you played as giant mecha. I seem to remember you could choose different combos of legs and tops for different benefits. I remember the first stage dropped you out of an airplane onto (i think) some enemy airplanes you'd walk across fighting other mechs.

Not knowing this has bugged me for years

There was a game i remember playing on the Mega Drive, IIRC you had to scare people out of their homes by possessing different items within the house.

Ok this one is going to be pretty hard I think:

-N64 game that may have been cancelled before release

-If the game did come out it got a Japan only release

-Death matching animu mech game

-Japanese dev

-Was featured in Nintendo Power as a cool game they hoped would come to the US

-Very colorful

-I believe the game had slightly open ended levels to fight on, which was a really interesting feature at the time

-The game was about attacking a "power crystal" on the mechs

-The only gameplay mechanic I remember was a risk/reward system where if you were good enough you could get up close and snatch the power crystal and instantly win the fight

*No the game is not Custom Robo 1 or 2

Okay, this one is really starting to bug me, and I need peace of mind.

There was this one Super Nintendo puzzle game, and it also spawned (or was spawned from) an arena-based fighting game thingy, as well as having a sequel. It was cutesy anime style, and I distinctly remember it featuring a penguin wearing a hat, a lady frog/Zora/fish thing, and a boy in what kind of looks like a fox suit.

Also (allegedly) if you do something good in the sequel, the game would shout out "Dustin Hoffman!" in response.

Did this game exist or am I seriously lacking some vital vitamins nowadays? :S

This is NOT Puyo Puyo! I don't think.

Thank you!!

Wow, I just googled the name, hit up Wikipedia, and learned all kinds of cool history about it. I didn't know it was a big hit back then and was ported to so many platforms. But the real shocker came when I learned that a sort of remake called "Thexder Neo" was recently released on PSN for PSP and PS3 that also includes the 8-bit original!

Ah yes, after some thought I finally worked out the name was Hebereke's Popoitto (Popoitto Hebereke in Japan) and it actually received a European release of sorts.

Don't know how easy or difficult this will be, I only saw the game once for a few moments like 15 years ago. This is all I know about it:

It's a shmup
On SNES
It wasn't futuristic as far as I can remember. Perhaps WWII themed or something, not sure, but it was regular aircraft going vertically up.

I remember it looking really nice. I had a Mega Drive and never owned a SNES; the richer color pallete of SNES games always left a strong impression on me whenever I happened to see one. I'd love to find out what that game was called and look at it today to see if it still looks as pretty as I thought it did back then.

1942?

Usually I pretty good about remembering names, but this one slips my mind and I haven't been able to find anything close searching the web.

So it was a computer game from when I was a kid around the Windows 3.1-windows 95 era and basically what you did was place these premade people and things on a background and basically make your own comic book strips. You could add text and stuff like that as well.

Looking for a NES game. IIRC it's considered being one of the toughest NES games. All I remember about it is something with a knight, a castle and a trench with a dragon in it, seen from the side. I remember that this first room was pretty much impossible to pass.

Dragon's Lair?

There is a game I used to love to play when I was younger. I believe it was on the sega. You start off as a guy on a very dark alien planet. It's a side scroller. When you run a few screens to the right a monster starts chasing you. Eventually you cross a gap the monster can't cross and you meet this thing that looks like a giant ape in a cage. That's all I remember....

This one actually sounds like The Krion Conquest by Vic Tokai. Played somewhat like Mega Man in that you had your witch with multiple powers that she could switch through at will, and lots of platforming and shooting. It was known as Magical Doropie on the FC....

HOLY SHIT, that's it! It's been driving me crazy for years trying to think of which game that was.... Thanks a bunch man!

I know you said it wasnt futuristic, but I am going to take a shot and ask if it's Space Megaforce/Super Aleste, or maybe even Imperium/Dion. Another one that comes to mind is possibly Sonic Wings?

Hmm, I looked at screenshots of all these games, and I really can't tell if it was or wasn't any of them! I guess my memory of it is too foggy... I happened to see it at a local game shop when I went to pick up my cartridge of the first Mortal Kombat, and that game was playing on a SNES hooked up to a TV, it was on demo/autoplay. What I remember most about it was a sort of a "soft glow" to the sprites (naturally, being on a CRT TV hooked up through RF or composite), which is a stark contrast to razor sharp screenshots usually you find on the web.

My best guesses are Raiden Trad and Space Megaforce, but I'm pretty sure it's neither. Vertical scrolling really narrows it down though, so shouldn't be too hard to find =)

Err, I don't know... I seem to remember the name having the word "Wings", and Aero Fighters was called Sonic Wings in Japan, so it could be. But I give up. I checked tons of games from This List, This List, and scrolled through many pages of This. Looks like I wouldn't positively ID it if it hit me in the face :lol

Man, the SNES had so many awesome games. Probably the best console I never owned.

All right here's a bit of a twist...

When I was a kid my neighbor had a video game system that we used to play all the time. The two games I really remember playing were Sewer Sam and some (I think) WWII top-down shmup where one player could be the gunner and the other was the pilot (River Raid?). A Google search says Sewer Sam was on both ColecoVision and Intellivision but I don't remember playing either of those games on paddles. Was there a 2600 version of Sewer Sam?

Basically what I'm asking is:
What was the name of the shooter?
What system had both those games?

Here is what I know for sure: It was a Genesis/Megadrive game that was mostly side-scrolling, but there were driving parts between levels. There was a gun that could shoot a net.

Here is what I'm pretty sure about: I think you were some kind of cop, only you wore a red vest instead of a uniform. You either had to kill or trap (with your net) your target in every level, but you had to shoot your way through these seedy crack dens to get to him/her.

I might be making this up: There were grandma's pushing walkers that you could shoot.(?)

Alright guys, this one is tricky cause i'm thinking far back and it's very fuzzy.

NES game

2d side scroller where you started out a little kid, then got a power-up and became a huge big muscled dude. The boxart had the big muscled man on it I think. It was pretty cartoonish and colorful. If I recall correctly, when you become huge your chest beefs out more than anything else. When you transform I think you become shirtless I think.

I used to rent it all the time but I don't know why because I recall it being pretty much a knock off of other games at the time.

It kinda looked like an adventure island game but wasn't. It possibly was a hudson soft game but I can't recall for sure.

I didn't know the NES had a version of Altered Beast. it's probably something else tho.

Sounds similar to the game I'm thinking of, but I remember it as a beat-em-up. The one thing that I have remembered through the years is one of the mech's weapons was a circular saw. This has also bothered me for years. We're talkin' like 10 or more years, here.

Help!

*warning, my memory maybe a little off on this

This was a sidescroller action game. You were a kid that threw some little ball around, I think it was alive. But you threw it and it would come back like a boomerang. Controls were a little more complicated though, it wasnt like the cross in castlevania.

At the end of each stage there was a boss. You could either kill it by hitting it, or hitting the springs behind it multiple times. Kinda like bowser but more complicated.

I think that's Amagon, it's not that good from what I've read.

Ok my turn.
It was a genesis game where you were a man turned into a monkey by this guy and you had to rescue your girlfriend and turn back human.
