GameSpy Delivers Next-Generation In-Game Voice Communication Solution for Publishers

BRISBANE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 24, 2004--

New SDK So Easy to Use, No Previous Experience with Voice is Necessary; API Delivers Optimal Performance, Functionality for Multiplayer PC, PS2 Titles

GameSpy, a leading provider of technology for online game play in video games, today announced the second generation of its GameSpy Voice software development kit (SDK). The new SDK helps video game publishers and developers bring voice communication into multiplayer games more easily than ever before.

Now available as part of GameSpy's Premium Suite of online enabling tools, the new Voice SDK delivers on GameSpy's promise to assist game developers in adding multiplayer features in a manner that creates the greatest impact with the least development effort. GameSpy's new SDK enables developers with little or no voice experience to add voice communication functionality to their PC or Sony PlayStation(R) 2 (PS2) game without having to learn the details of voice capture, playback or encoding.

"The industry's strongest multiplayer technology just got stronger," said Mark Stieglitz, Vice President and General Manager of Publisher and Developer Services. "Publishers, developers and strategic partners get a simple way to make voice functionality an effective part of their game. But the game players really win -- with our voice features enabled, the game is more fun, more intense and more competitive."

Game developers are already using GameSpy's new Voice SDK.

"I'm always happy to find something that works as well as GameSpy's new Voice SDK, since so many things don't live up to their billing," said Graeme Love, Technical Director for Merely Mortals' Street Racing Syndicate. "Integration of GameSpy Voice with our game engine took less than a day to get in and working. It was just as easy as advertised."

"Pandemic Studios jumped at the chance to get GameSpy's new Voice SDK," said Jon Heiner, Senior Network Programmer on Pandemic Studios' Full Spectrum Warrior. "Voice support has been critical to the rich online experience of Full Spectrum Warrior. With an aggressive schedule, we needed a mature, high-quality product with clean interfaces. The new SDK was integrated in a matter of days and met these needs perfectly."

GameSpy's new Voice SDK, written in standard ANSI C for maximum portability, uses the proven GameSpy architecture and is extremely efficient in its use of memory, bandwidth and processor time. Developers can choose any of five different audio codecs -- or use their own -- to meet their specific voice quality and bandwidth needs.
