IDG's GameStar and Ziff Davis' XBN (Xbox Nation) & GMR Magazines have been officially cancelled or are on the verge of discontunuing press this month. The closings have set an American gaming publication market record with three closings in the same month.
XBN launched in late 2001 with almost 50 pages of advertisments, making it one of the biggest game magazine launches of the decade. A year later, XBN raised it's publishing schedule from quarterly (four issues a year) to bi-monthly (six issues a year). GMR, a monthly video and PC game publication from the same publisher, was a combined effort between Ziff Davis and Electronics Boutique (game retail store).
IDG's Gamestar magazine focused more so on the adult gamer and the adult entertainment interests (music, movies, anime, etc). The premiere issue of Gamestar was launched at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2004 (E3).
