Gamestop- Trade in your Wii U for $120 plus $75 extra

Is the deal done? Can't find it anywhere on their website anymore...

When I seen the deal up a few days ago, I checked to see when it would expire, it said 1/22/2017... but now it's gone? >.>

Wait can I trade in a PS4 and get the extra credit toward a Wii U instead of the Switch?

(Serious query.)

In a way. Trade PS4 for Switch credit. Cancel to a gift card. Use gift card for Wii U. Their Wii U price sucks tho. $230 I think?

I mentioned YMMV on doing that because when I tried at my store they said bonus gets wiped out when you cash out to a giftcard.

I'm not is the US but I wouldn't trade anyway; I have 3 digital first party games on it and I love replaying 3D World from time to time.

I came here with the same inquiry. I just went to the GameStop site and there is no mention of the deal, though initially it said it was good through the 22nd.

Call me crazy, but I feel like that Wii U will be one of those systems that are hard to find in the future.

Idk about trading it in, but that is a damn good price for it.
Depends on where you're shopping, but in general i would guess that it will be very easy to find a WiiU in the future. It has sold about 14 million units after all. Other systems like Sega Saturn and Atari Jaguar are very easy to find for sale online and those sold less, especially Atari Jaguar.

Be careful with trying to get this deal and upgrading to a Pro card at the same time. I tried to do this Friday (with an OG PS4) and the dude told me I was getting it and I would essentially get $10 free for the preorder. I get home and I don't have $185 on my Switch, I had $160 and the useless GameStop card. I went back today to get this fixed and the dude would not give me the extra Pro member $25 because some bullshit about the switch not being available anymore, so I asked for a refund on the card. The dude fought me on it and said he could not refund. I know he could, because I had checked the website FAQ before going. The dude told me I was wrong. I pulled out my phone to go the website and then he changed his mind and gave me my refund. So, I got $175 on the Switch now, I missed out on $10 and the stupid card, and I want to punch a GameStop nerd in the face.

So is this deal dead or what? Was gonna head by GS either tomorrow or the day after... assuming it was good till the 22nd but its not on the website anymore... guess I shouldn't have waited so long shrug.

Chances are they're sold out on pre orders and took it down. Someone in here said they work for GS and got an email yesterday saying they're out of preorder. Or the deal went crazy and corporate told them to cut the deal short assuming enough people were using the deal plus selling old games to pay off the switch plus a game completely off.

I decided to go ahead and preorder a switch from GameStop online. Getting the deal would of been nice but I'll live without it. Didn't order any games so hopefully I'll be able to pick those up locally.

I've got too much invested in Wii U to trade it in. I can't justify it. I've bought so many AAA and VC games on Wii U, likely upwards of $500-600 just in software purchases, 3/4 of which are digital, not physical.

I'll hold onto it for a while longer.

Really need to see what Nintendo is planning for Switch VC, a little concerned it was barely mentioned at the unveiling this weekend.

Yeah :( By the time I called last night all Gamestops in an 8 mile radius were bare of pre-orders, of course.

Deal would have made me bite a bit sooner had I known.

local store told me over the phone the deal is still on if you already have a preorder

going in a bit to do it, will report back results

They ended the promotion around 3PM Pacific Time without notice. They realized how popular this deal was so they decided to not to do it anymore.

If that's the case maybe they took it down because more and more people were coming to trade in and they didn't realize the deal was specifically for the switch and they're out of Switches.

Guy at the store told me it would end yesterday. Still couldn't bring myself to trade in my XB1 though.

The Ganestop I talked to said the deal ends on the 22nd, however it's only valid towards a Switch pre-order.

Effectively, if they can't pre-order the system for you, they can't give you the trade value. He was trying to find out if there was a loophole to apply it to a Switch game for me, and he'd call me back.

Unless Nintendo has a Backwards Compatability program similar to Microsoft. Otherwise I'm stuck with the WiiU cause I went pretty much exclusively digital. I really don't want to throw away $300+ worth of games.

I might try tomorrow. Otherwise I'll preorder at work since I doubt we've hit a limit. I haven't had anybody ask and the system wasn't working on the 13th. Only had one barcode though so I dunno if you can choose the neon version or not.

For what it's worth, another store I talked to said that stores had basically hit their pre-order limit yesterday, so it's unlikely ANY Gamestops will have it.

That's a pretty great deal.

I'm not too sold in the Switch right now. But would definitely go for one if I could trade in my WiiU which has been gathering dust for months anyway.

Sadly, it's Us only

There is no way in hell I'm getting rid of either of my Wii Us but that isn't a terrible deal.

Huh, I see I wasn't the only one that doubled down on the Wii U. I'm absolutely keeping both of them, and the amazing library that I will still be playing for a long time to come.

welp

I guess I'll hope for some pre-owned deals to pop up

Gamestop is likely wanting to have the majority of preowned Wii Us so they can sell it at a decent premium. If they're giving you 200 for them preowned, they'll likely be selling them close to $250 seeing how there are little to no new models.

Chances are, the price will be just as high.

See thread title. Wal-Mart doesn't exactly do much good for getting credit.

Also I actually called there and they said they'd only accept it if you paid the whole thing upfront.

Must vary because we have a paper that tells you how to do the preorder and it says 10% down. And I was gonna sell my ps4 somewhere else if I couldn't do it with gamestop.

Just traded my wiiu for $195 toward my Switch preorder which I made last Friday

Also got a free tshirt with a trade in $$$$

seems to still work as long as you have a preorder already

Wii-U price will likely reach an all time high shortly after Zelda release because it already went out of production and will be sold out everywhere.

Gamestop stopped preorders last night at midnight. I'm my area they didn't not sell all their pre order allotment. Gamestop rep said that Nintendo may reopen pre orders later.

FWIW I just called my local Gamestop and they said the promotion is still valid until the 22nd. They mentioned they were having trouble getting the deal to ring but they would just manually add the credit.

Also, is there anything special I need to do to my Wii U besides wipe it? I have SM3DW digital and wasn't sure if it would stay on my account.

- bring in all of the cables it came with
- bring in the gamepad
- bring in the Wii motion bar if you still have it
- bring in any accessories you won't need anymore to try and sell it
- bring in any games you will sell, from the Wii U and any other game from any console you no longer play.
- Spend the $15 to become a pro member, you still get an extra 10 bucks overall that if you did it without the membership. Plus you get an extra 10% on any trade ins you bring with you.

Clean your Wii U and gamepad plus accessories if they're dirty imho. If it's heavily scratched or damaged enough where it's noticeable they might try to take away some cash from the value.

Did you ask if they had Switches available for preorder still? If you haven't preordered one and they're out, they won't give you the extra 75 bucks.

Heads up: My Gamespot is going to be putting people on a waiting list for the Switch, and if they get more pre-orders in before the 22nd they will do the Wii U to Switch trade up deal for you.

So, here's hoping.

Awesome. Gonna see what my gamestop says.

Does gamestop wipe the console? I own like 1 digital game so it's not a huge deal like it'd be with my PSN. Already have it unplugged and boxed up lol.

They said they wipe it in store. They have to turn it on and test it anyhow. I'm sure you can request them to wipe it for you while you're there.

I went ahead and preordered at work (Walmart). I was the 2nd person because nobody had asked besides one coworker today. We only have one barcode though so I dunno if we're getting the neon version or not. Or if we get a choice when we pick them up. Probably just the base version. I'll ask how it's being handled Tuesday when the lady who would know is in. I'll just sell my ps4 somewhere. I used my employee discount so it ended up being around $289 after tax so the extra from gamestop doesn't really matter.

Sold my day one edition Xbox One, Charge and play kit, and Gears of War 4 for $214 towards my switch preorder today. One of the best promotions gamestop has had imo.

They have to manually remove the promotion but if you pre-order and cancel later they won't know.
