Gamestop- Trade in your Wii U for $120 plus $75 extra

I guess I won't be doing the trade in after all. Apparently the Gamestop I pre-ordered at is having issues with their resellers license so they are not taking any trade-ins.
Can this be done at another Gamestop and applied to an online pre-ordered from Gamestop? I doubt this will come back later down the line. This sucks.

I traded in my Xbox One towards the Switch using this deal today. It felt a little weird, having never traded in a console before. Really though, that thing was offering nothing to me as someone who also has a PS4 and PC, and there's very little on the horizon for me. Plus, with Nintendo introducing paid online, the unfortunate reality there is that I can't justify paying for three services, so Xbox Live had to go.

Wait, your Gamestop is taking pre-orders for the Switch? Mine wouldn't give me the extra credit since they ran out of pre-orders.

Had the same issue.

If you can find an employee who will put it on someone else's existing preorder and then immediately refund the trade amount to a gift card you can still do it.

It won't interfere at all with the person's preorder and you will get the promo bonus credit.

Well they will have to put 1 penny on the preorder though so I guess you'll lose 1 penny.

Interesting. But you won't actually get a pre-order right? Just the extra credit?

Might have to try this out.

Can I trade more than one system and get 75$ on top of trade in value for both? I traded in an OG PS4 a couple of days ago towards switch for 200$ credit minus pro membership of 15$. Can I trade in a 3ds today and get the 75 extra credit and put towards the existing switch preorder?

Looking at how the 3DS are sold out from sea to sea in the U.S., you may be better off selling the 3DS locally or even ebay.

Yeah you won't get a preorder because there are no more. It's just a work around to get the bonus credit still. Because for them to do it they have to apply it to an existing or new preorder.

A way you can check without directly asking is just call around and ask about the trade promo and that you really want to trade in your console but it wasn't possible to secure one and that you'd use it towards the switch when more are released. The employees who will do this will take care of you. Or if you're comfortable you can just tell them about the method and ask directly.

I'm friends with the manager of my GameStop so it was easy for me.

I just traded mine away plus all of my games (except Bayo 2, waiting for CEMU to improve), completely paid off the Switch and Zelda. Surprisingly, I was the only one who took advantage of this offer in my local store.

Called and asked. It's a no go. I think you were only able to do it because you have a friend there.

This is from Gamestop Ireland, rubbish prices.

Are they taking more reservations now?

pretty sure the deal ends today btw. So if they haven't received more units allocations towards them and are refusing to let you preorder any upcoming units they might have (they might simply not have the system in place to do so), then regardless today it ends

You guys are insane for trading in your consoles. I can never see myself doing that - not even for $3.5 million dollars.

I just got an email today saying that because I preordered the switch online, I'm eligible for this deal in store this upcoming week. Like I'll get it in trade credit. Don't have to apply it towards switch I think.

They gave me a coupon code in my email to give the associate tomorrow.

If anyone put in a preorder through GS online, check your emails. Got one saying I could trade in if I took my order confirmation and the email they sent. Believe it lasts just for the week.

keep in mind that depending on your GS they will force you to put the $75 towards the Switch preorder.

Couldn't get the bonus credit, but still got $300 for my system + wiimote + pro controller and 7 games.

Not bad for a system I haven't turned on since April.

Yeah! That's the one I got. I'm just worried they're gonna nuke the values tomorrow lol

Traded in my 500GB Xbox one with FF XV (good riddance), Halo 5 and Battlefield 4 and it almost paid for the whole Nintendo Switch. Worth it, I'd say since I didn't use my Xbox One. Just over a month to go!

Gamestop is terrible they annoy me so much. I went in the Saturday after the Reveal Presentation to try to do this trade in deal that they have all over their website. The manager said they had 55 switch's allocated to their store, 40 people preordered that Friday, but on Saturday morning Gamestop took back the remaining 15 preorders to sell on the Website to online customers in expensive bundles.

What a greedy company. They saw demand was high and realized they could get more money online with package deals.

Eh. I literally hadn't touched that Xbox in 6 months, the exclusives now also come out on PC, there aren't even any exclusives on the horizon that I'm interested in. I was able to use this to get $175 back on the $250 I spent on that Xbox. No regrets here. My days of console-hoarding are behind me. Switch/PC/PS4 will be more than enough for me.

So glad I got that email from Gamestop. I had pre-ordered the Switch online, and I called a Gamestop last week asking if I could trade in my Wii U and apply the credit to my online pre-order. The guy told me no, but now I have this e-mail proving otherwise.

Trading it in is still a gamble for me though, depending on Nintendo's plans for transferring Wii U purchases to the Switch (if any). I just need to go through my Wii U, write down what Virtual Console games I'd be missing out on, and hope for the best. If Nintendo acts like Nintendo, I won't be able to download anything again or need my Wii U physically there to transfer purchases. At that point, I'll just find another way to play those games.

I haven't turned on my Wii U in half a year, and I've already sold all of my physical games for it. It's time to let go.

$200+ credit towards the Switch with just the Wii U is something I can't really turn down. Sure, I could maybe get a similar amount from eBay, but shipping it would be a hassle.

Just deleted the user from My Wii U and I am on the way of trading it, the offer is too good to pass up and my Wii U has been acting a bit weird lately, so I want to get a new one.

Thank god I got the e-mail.

Bumping this thread cause I have a question: I traded in some stuff for the 50% extra trade-in towards my Switch pre-order but they said it's 40%. You get the extra 10% if you're a Pro member. I can't find anyone who had this experience and nothing in their online language suggests this. Can anyone shed some light on this or should I go in and persist until they give me the full 50%?

Says it right on their website. 50% for pro members, 40% for everyone else.

See the giant banner on this page for Switch games and accessories. 50% and PUR always gets 10% extra so it should be 60%.

You are wrong.

Ends tomorrow.

Ok deal, but... only once I gave a console away for money, my Dreamcast. I still feel uncomfortable for doing so. I will keep it. Nevertheless, quite ok deal for anyone less sentimental.

The app states 50% trade in credit towards Switch games and Switch accessories. No mention of applying credit towards the Switch hardware.

There's a 40% extra trade in credit towards any system if you're a Pro member.

I have Zelda and the Switch on the same pre-order, so it doesn't matter either way.

Again, there seems to be no indication that I should get 40% plus 10%, but rather that 50% for Basic and 50% + 10% for Pro.

I did the 50% trade bonus toward Switch game/accessory pre-orders deal last week and ended up with like $600 in credit. I was really not expecting that considering what I traded in. Since I'm a pro member (I signed up just for this transaction) I also got an extra 10% for each item.

e.g. Wii U pro controller base value ($15.00) + 50% bonus ($7.50) + 10% bonus ($1.50) = $24

I was thinking that the 50% bonus would only apply for credit you actually put toward Switch items, but according to the guy at GS, all you have to do is pre-order (even just $5) one Switch item and the bonus applies to your entire balance. So now I have several hundred dollars to spend on whatever (probably PSN credit, TBH).

Looks like it was all in the way it was rung up.

You were rung up properly for someone putting money down on the system. They're offering 40% for that. Not sure if you stated that's what you intended the trades for?

But as the poster above proved you could've made out better by putting money down on an accessory to get the 50% (60% for Pro). Only $5 would've been required and you'd be free to put the rest on the Switch system.

It's all in how you handled the transaction.

Meh, it said game or accessory when I did it and I put it towards Zelda. I went back in and they retroactively added 50% to the previous few games I did plus I traded in Pokemon Moon so that paid for the Pro card. Still not ideal but basically got the Pro card for $7, which I likely won't use that much but should at least pay for itself in that plus hopefully some credits from bonus points.

Wound up trading in my Wii U and games. I misread and thought the system also granted a bonus. Oh well, Switch and Zelda are paid off, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is preordered. I couldn't preorder a Pro Controller though.

Can you trade in your stuff, get the 50% bonus by putting it down for a switch game, then change it the next day to a PS4 game but keep the bonus credit.
