Gametrailers: Top 10 Home Bases

Decent list, despite no ebon hawk from kotor. And morher base from mgs v is shit tier

Good shout out to dojima residence

I went to Monteriggioni prior to finding out that it was used in the Assassin's creed games, and it's actually a pretty "homie" place. Not sure how it's presented in the game, but I can certainly imagine riding through the castle gates to the small shops and houses and church and being contented.

10. Mother Base - Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
9. 221B Baker Street - Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments
8. Stray Sheep - Catherine
7. Suikoden Castle - Suikoden 1
6. Carrington Institute - Perfect Dark
5. XCOM Headquarters - XCOM: Enemy Unknown
4. Dojima Residence - Persona 4
3. The Nexus - Demon's Souls
2. Monteriggioni - Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood
1. The Normandy - Mass Effect

List fixed

Super weird to have included Mother Base in there. I thought it was severely lacking in terms of... Everything. Plus, they spend the entire video segment bashing it.

Gametrailers is full of Horde scum so it figures.
Stormwind is a terrible city though.

Plus, if they were to include World of Warcraft, they'd have to list garrisons, because that's home base now.

Any games that take the Mother Base formula to its furthest extent? Like, being able to interact with your soldiers, see work being done, etc.? Doesn't have to be on the same scale, but something similar.

I almost fucking died because the list was spoiler tagged

Bless you, you daring soul

I love how they probably got into a coffee-room chat about Mother Base in MGS5... discussed a bunch of games that did it better... then said "LET'S POST A LIST!"

Im the only one who can see the video?

Pretty good list. Normandy, Dojima's and the Stray Sheep where great.

Never got the appeal of the Normandy other than it being a ship.

Saints Row 2 - Underground Church

Mafia 2 - Vito's Apartment

The most egregious missing from the list though

Is the characters and the places you can visit in the ship, not that is a ship what makes it good.
I lover Mafia 2, but I wouldnt call Vito's apartment a great homebase. You cant do much inside.
EDIT T You change you whole post, you, sly you!

This list made me realize Nintendo games are mostly devoid of HQ like places, not even peach's castle count cause usually games that have it show it invaded in some capacity.

I guess only Mario games that come to mind with such are Partners in time (Peach castle in the present, in the past it is invaded...as usual) and Bowser's inside story (Bowser himself), both from the Mario & Luigi franchise.

Happy for the Carrington Institute inclusion. Loved it. I spend a lot of time walking there, reading extra stuff about the story and getting all the medals in the firing range.

One of the many reasons why I prefer Perfect Dark to GoldenEye.

Isn't the Nexus a HUB world by that definition?

It is, but there's a distinct difference between the Nexus and something like Peach's Castle in Mario 64. The Nexus has a lot more activity, NPCs and purpose going on, while the Castle pretty much just serves as an elaborate hub.

It's especially accentuated in Demon's Souls case, since returning to the Nexus from the oppressive world players travel to has a great contrast and is even relaxing.

#10 is an absolute joke. It's one of the worst home bases ever. It's like a prime example of a soulless home.
Every time they told me I was going back there, I groaned and contemplated whether it was worth continuing to play or not.

It reminded me a lot of the Tower in Destiny. It's a place that handles a lot of in-game things that could easily be handled elsewhere. They force you to go back and forth from the actual game to this place that basically serves as a menu, making you watch cutscenes when going in and out, and dealing with three loading screens in the process.

Another one

It wasn't used as much in Hit The Road, but in the episodic format of the newer Sam and Max seasons, the office became an incredibly familiar and almost safe place. It was fun to watch as it changed from episode to episode but its changes were almost tame compared to other familiar places changes with each new story.
