Gaming / Nerdculture: The opposite of love / fandom is not hate

With the Last of Us 2 we are at a point again, where we already where with the Last Jedi. And the discussion is going towards hate again. But what most people just don't see, a lot of people who are very vocal about the game are actually also very passionate. They wanted a good game, like Star Wars fans wanted a good movie.

Of course, "haters" are a minority, because they still believe this can be salvaged somehow. It is crazy that media focus so much on them, because most of them are just disappointed and will maybe buy something else from a company again, if they improve the product.

The real opposite of love and fandom is apathy. People just walking away, thinking well this was shit. Not having enough energy or passion to even voice their opinion. However, they will not buy another product, they are so over everything, they just don't care anymore. It is not because of the haters that movies like Rise of the Skywalker were so far away from the TFA box office numbers or why the comic book industry collapses. It is the people, who just walk away.

They used to spend a lot of money, the even loved a product, but for them it is not even worth to talk about it anymore. Those were the people helping others to push their love for games into mainstream. They watched the WoW fan movies for example, read the comics or upvoted fan art in image boards, because they also loved the game / comic or movie. The hardcore fans are not enough to push that, you need an audience beyond that.

Fan communities do not fall apart because some people hate something. They collapse, when people just do not care anymore.

"hate" and how is it used in English is completely retarded. Same with "love".

Well I am writing like that too, because people are using it in that sense....but if I translated it back, I probably said here word "love" for 100 Slavs lives. It's just "I like".
