Hello Gameboy-Gaf!

I just got a gameboy micro and I was wondering what games you recommend?

I'm really open to anything. I'm trying to decide between Metroid Fusion and Golden Sun right now lol.
Rhythm Tengoku is well worth a purchase. It is awesome, and easily one of my favorite GBA games. Metroid Zero Mission, too.

I'm thinking about ordering all seven bit Generations games at some point in the future. Worth it?

I kinda want to get them just to display their lovely box art. I imported Orbital years ago and had a great time playing it.

But price per value is quite high for such simple games.

Tengoku is great, I agree.

Many years of hunting has gone into this so far, and yet I don't think I'll be satisfied until I hit 200 at least, hahah. Still have a handful of big titles bedeviling me, but like with my Boktai 2 find, I still luck out every now and again.

I've recently decided to get back into GBA games after seeing the Rose Colored Gaming backlight kits and pining for my agb001 Platinum console. In the end, I've found a retro store on ebay in the UK who cleans up, mods and sells the consoles complete for £70, so decided to buy a complete unit, as buying the RCG kit would only save me a few quid and I'd have to go through the task of modding the console, and altering units isn't my strong point. If the console is decent quality when I receive it, I'll post some shots and a link to the seller.

Linked to this, I've begun hunting down legit copies of Zero Mission and FFV and VI, although I know I've got my work cut out for me, I've wanted them since they were new. Luckily a retro gaming shops just opened down the road from where I work and the owners said he'll keep an eye out and stick them aside if they come in. I've already got a head start on my collection as I bought a load of titles when they came out as I worked in a GAME when the GBA was current, including some harder to get ones, and going back I've got some decent GB titles, but I need to track down their boxes.

The one thing I'm currently researching is building my own Mother 3 english reproduction using an ezflash, but getting hold of one in the UK looks expensive so may be better to see how the premade ones turn out.

When I get back home and the modded GBA turn up, I'll get a shot of my current collection.

This might be an off question but, I am trying to create a game boy color collection that has both good well known titles, good niche games, but also collect games in established series that may or may not be good, here is my list as it stands (also gonna add bomberman stuff)

Bionic Commando: Elite Forces
Blaster Master: Enemy Below
Conker's Pocket Tales
Harvest Moon GB
Harvest Moon 2
Harvest Moon 3
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons
Mario Golf
Mario Tennis
Mega Man Xtreme
Mega Man Xtreme 2
Metal Gear Solid
Pokémon Yellow
Pokémon Gold
Pokémon Silver
Pokémon Crystal
Pokémon Pinball (need a new manual)
Pokémon Puzzle Challenge
Pokémon Trading Card Game
Shantae
Super Mario Bros. Deluxe
Tetris DX
Toki Tori
Wario Land II
Wario Land 3

Would anyone be able to help me pad in either, games that are good, games from established series, or other interesting recommendations for the game boy color? I have a list for gba and the original GB as well but, am not focusing on them just this moment.

Hey guys!

Just checking in to say thank you for the recommendations! They all seem like amazing games.

Also I wanted to say that the gameboy micro is fucking amazing. I love it. It's perfect to carry around with you everywhere.

And the gamessss man they're good.

Right now I'm playing through:

-Super Mario Bros. 3
This is my first time playing this game (I know) and man it's kicking my ass! :p

-Warioware Inc. Mega Microgames
Almost done with this. Really addictive and amazing game! Honestly it's worth it alone for "Dr. Wario" a doctor mario clone that you can unlock that is basically the exact same game.

-Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga
This game rocks. I played a little bit of it a long time ago when I had a GBA, but man I appreciate it so much more now. Excellent humor, story, and gameplay. Highly recommended so far.

Great reviews Magicman, keep them up.

I bought my 3DS XL today, and my GBA case won't fit! I've been using this case for over a decade now, has stored my GBA, Micro, SP 101, and DS Lite, but the XL won't fit!

Still waiting on the handheld, but here's the game collection.

Only Golden Sun: TLA and Mario 3 are loose, got them second hand a few years after the systems prime. I'll HOPEFULLY be adding Metroid Zero Mission fairly soon too. FFV and VI are likely going to be the tricky ones. Anyone got any ideas for any glaring omissions I should have in my collection?

I would say Minish Cap, Mario & Luigi: SS, and Aria of Sorrow are the best games that you are missing.

I see FFT:A up there, you might want to check into Fire Emblem and Tactics Ogre if you are interested in SRPGs.

Ah yeah. Played Minish Cap on the Ambassador games on 3DS and loved it, so I'll keep an eye out for that, same with M&L (well, keep an eye out for it). Aria of Sorrow I know my old housemate had a boxed copy that I played through so I might see if he still has it and is willing to part with it. SRPGs I'm kind of interested in but don't think I'd be willing to part silly money for them yet, compared to Metroid or the FF games.

Nabbed up that copy of Shantae from Lyte Edge, nice all around really, luckily I don't have a car payment to make anymore :p

Game seems fun, not knowing you could run was making me hate it the first level but all is well now :p

After years of telling myself I'd get a copy and play though it, FINALLY got my hands on Metroid Zero Mission.

And I'll get to pick up my Backlit GBA tomorrow (since I missed the delivery) to make a start on it on the proper console and everything

Edit: And just picked it up. The console itself has a few more marks than I would have liked, but nothing excessive or even really visible unless you're looking, but may consider switching the case for my Silver one (when I find it).

What an awesome collection. I think I have had and played most of those games over the past decade but it's something else to see them all in one place.

meant to say, my Mother 3 (english) repro cart came in last week or so, and it's awesome! i wanna say it was about $50 from a guy over at nintendoage, i'd been waiting on OCD reproductions or whatever but that guy decided to do weird carts that only fit in a DS lite for whatever reason, and now i've happily got one that plays on my GC GBA player. love the crap out of this game, looking forward to replaying this once i finish up part 2 again soon.

Whats the repro like? I've seen discussions when searching of legit carts being produced, but most of the ones I've seen are flashcarts fitted into original cartridges.

its like...exactly what you'd picture, just the Mother 3 logo on a GBA cart like the japanese one ive seen, but it loads in english...brought its own little case too. it's good quality!

Thanks! A big reason why I have so many is that I never sold my GBA games when I was a teen even though I regularly sold games for other systems when I was done with them. Even as a kid, I valued packaging and somehow realized that if I went to rebuy the games, I'd have a very hard time getting boxed copies because cardboard game boxes were treated as disposable by most people.

A friend of mine in Japan just got me FF Tactics as a early birthday gift. Can't wait for it (it's one of my favorite games on the GBA), should be getting it tomorrow/today or Monday.

Also got burned out twice lately on Amazon and on eBay. Ordered FFVI for 18 bux and when I got it it turned out to be a fake. Got a refund, ordered another one for 30 bux one eBay and it also turned to be a fake :/

It's so hard finding a legit copy of VI for the GBA and as much as I love the game to death I don't think I can shell out 60 for a new copy. But I'm on the verge of doing so.

I got so lucky and found one off of Craigslist of all places.

Its so much easier finding legit SNES and GBA rare games then even common games on DS. Its ridiculous.

ebay or rose tinted gaming.
The RCG ones are kind of strange from the sounds of it. I wish I had a good way to get a replacement OEM pink one just in case, but mine's still in relatively good condition.

I just got a copy of Four Swords Adventures in the mail, I need to go buy some GBA->GC link cables ASAP. I'd love to mod one so I could use my Micro but I'm terrible at that stuff.

I'm having the same issue. There's not many options in the UK outside of Ebay, and I only really trust CiB off there, meaning there's only ever 2 or 3 copies a month that go for around £45-50, which I'm currently breaking down to actually paying.

So does anyone have any experience with buying from Amazon Warehouse Deals? Not talking about third party sellers on Amazon, but Amazon's trade-in/used game department itself. I feel like my DS and 3DS collections are about where I want them to be right now but I'd love to get more GBA games and that is always tough because of how easy they are to bootleg. Has anyone bought GBA games from them before? Have the games been legit? I know third party sellers are sketchy as hell so I'd definitely avoid them. But Warehouse Deals actually pays out credit for people trading in games so I'd like to think they are an extra step or two above buying from a random.

Only interested in playing them, so quite a bit I'd be looking at buying "acceptable" which is cart only! I'm a little nervous but Amazon has always done me well in the past. I know if I get something that isn't real I can return it but doing so frequently probably wouldn't be a good idea for me and my account.

You can always email the seller and have them send you a picture of the item in question. Have them send close ups of the front and contacts, easiest places to identify a fake.

I'm playing through Dawn of Sorrow on DS right now, anything I need to worry about in terms of getting the true ending?

Trying to stay as spoiler free as possible, but I don't want to miss anything big. I just beat the puppet master boss.

I don't think you can screw anything up that would prevent you from getting the true ending that is time/event sensitive.

Do I buy FFV and FFVI for GBA

Or do I hold out hope of 3DS remakes

I have quite a few RPGs on the backlog but I've wanted to harm myself ever since I sold FFV a few months ago.

Probably two of my most wanted GBA games.

Went to a couple local places that handle a ton of older games. GBA stock all looked legit and had some decent prices on things. Also had GB and GBC stuff but I worry so much that they won't save.

Get them. Even if the games are remade for 3DS, they will either A) be fairly different from the GBA versions, like the DS FF4 remake (unlikely) or B) be ports of iOS versions. I guess they could do something like the PSP version of FF4, but there aren't sequels to those games and I don't see them putting forth the effort anytime soon. Even if they do, despite some flaws, they are solid versions of great games the work on a number of convenient handhelds with great battery life and portability.

Just got FFVI from Amazon. Pretty much was all of my Amazon credit that I had left but I feel like even cart only it's worth it since I've wanted this game for so long. Here's hoping it's a legit copy so I don't have to hassle a return and can actually keep the game. Just a weird feeling since it feels like so long I've searched for this game, both in the few local shops that deal with GBA games and on eBay or Amazon.

Which of the FE on the GBA is worth playing?

sacred stones seems to be the cheapest on amazon (only ~15-20 dorrus) while the other one, the lowest price is like 40

Just picked up this gbc from the local thrift shop. Unfortunately, it doesn't turn on. Contacts look clean. no signs of a drop. Any ideas before i send it back and get store credit at the thrift shop? I've tried new AA batteries, i've tried rotating the batteries, and cleaning the batttery contacts without any luck. i do not have an AC adapter that's compatible.Thanks.

Interesting pick-up I saw in the main thread

I've been hunting this down for a while, a Visteon GBA. It was officially licensed by Nintendo and is a GBA built into a portable DVD player. I wish I could find a video out cord for it though. It outputs SVideo on a TRRS connector (or something similar), but I can't find a cable that does that.
