GB/GBC/GBA Collecting Thread

Interestingly, the manual says that the Visteon GBA is compatible with GB/GBC carts, but the cartridge slot is keyed the same way that the DS and GB Micro are, so that you can't fit a GB game in.
I'm tempted to fit a bare board GB game in and see if it runs.

Took apart the controller. It's wireless, but it's wireless by IR. So you need to maintain a line of sight. It's pretty responsive, and I haven't noticed any major lag, fwiw.
The unit has SVideo out, but no cables were supplied, not even a power supply. Odd. According to the manual, both the video out cables and power supply were "optional accessories," pretty much meaning that if you wanted them, you had to pay extra. I was able to source a power supply from an identical Visteon DVD Player (model XV101, it's the same unit, minus the GBA slot), but I can't find a video cord.
I do have a cord that that does composite over a headphone style jack, but it wasn't compatible with this (it fit in, just didn't display any picture).

Wow, aren't those GBA/DVD players mad expensive? They are quite the collector's piece.
He said he was going to upload a video of him playing with the console, but that apparently never happened.
That controller looks so weird. The D-pad looks really bad.

I completely forgot that there was a Zone of the Enders on GBA. I'm not familiar with it at all...is it worth picking up? I am a mecha fan in general, though I've not played the PS2 ZoE's yet (I have the HD collection on PS3).

It's a different style of game (strategy instead of action like the console ones). I recall it being released to little fanfare and got pretty average reviews so I never bothered with it.
I have it, but haven't gotten very far into it. If I remember correctly it's an SRPG but the combat sequences are "real-time" and rely on you targeting the enemy in your crosshairs (almost lightgun style). The better you do, the more damage you deal.

Has anyone played Yoshi's Topsy Turvy? Not sure what it was called outside Europe, but it was one of those bigger carts like Waroware Twisted. I'm wondering if it's worth hunting down.

Welcome to one of the most underrated consoles of all time.
Minish cap is excellent! One of the best games on the system.
Four swords is good too, but Four Sword Adventures on cube is better.
Twisted is great, a ton of content, super polished, and the controls feel very organic. You're in for a treat.

No, the DSi is also region-locked. DSi-only, DSi-enhanced, and DSiWare games are all region locked, though original DS games that do not have DSi enhancements will play on any DSi or 3DS. The TurboExpress and Sega Nomad are region-locked as well, of course.
And while no handheld that isn't a handheldized console released before the DSi has region locking, plenty of them do have regions, just not locking. That is, systems like the Game Gear have a region in each system, so that games with multiple region versions in the cart can display the English version on a Western system and the Japanese version in a Japanese system. The PSP is similar; it's region-locked for movies, I believe, but not games.?
PSN is also region locked. Even worse, it's sometimes country-locked. Especially shitty if your retail games is from a different region/country [the latter depends on if there's a different version] than your account if you want DLC. Not sure how XBLM works in that regard.

That is sweet, a small portable dvd player with a GBA player in it? I want one!
Good luck, they are apparently quite rare and expensive.
From what I can gather, they were originally sold only to auto manufacturers or custom shops for over $1000 to place in cards as an overhead DVD player.

I got it last Wednesday and I can barely put it down. I think I like it even more than the original, which is extremely high praise.
It's possibly the most fun I've ever had with a game, really. It's amazing.

From what I read when I originally purchased the EVIV, using adapters doesn't always work optimally, or at all for that matter.

Of course you can. But it's a hassle and brings with it its own problems. For example when certain DLC also gets locked to that specific account. Happened with AssCreed Revelations, for example. I have a US account as my main, live in Germany but import from the UK so my codes for extra stuff that were in the box had to be redeemed with my UK account and for that game they locked some of it to the PSN ID itself (who knows why) and thus parts of it were unavailable to me in the game unless I played on the UK account which in turn would lock me out of trophies for my main account.
Another issue is when you don't know that DLC is country-locked. The infamous example being Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Namco Bandai Europe was so nice to me, they allowed me to pay TWICE for their DLC since they were incapable of fixing their own screw-up even though I provided proof of purchase of the DLC. Situation: There was a Germany-exclusive "Collector's Edition" of the game with a Soundtrack and Artbook. That version had the PEGI and USK logos on it, something SKUs only do when they are for the whole European market. So, I assume PEGI logo = compatible with the UK store when I wanted to by the DLC for the game later on. Guess what, it wasn't. The UK version had different BLES ID codes and thus wasn't compatible with the Euro/German version. So I buy the DLC, it doesn't work and now I paid 10 EUR or whatever the conversion rate was at the time for something I can't use unless I buy another copy (UK ver) of the game or buy the DLC again in the proper store (did not have a German account at that time since it simply wasn't necessary and I'm always wary of DLC content not supporting English language options if bought in a non-English store).
See the kinds of issues digital stores on supposedly "region free" systems can bring with themselves? I guess it's a non issue in the US where everything is just a uniform pile of all the stuff you'd want anyway unlike Europe where you have to deal with tons of different versions, languages, possible content differences due to censorship and all-over-the-place pricing.
And don't get me started on XBLA and it's IP-locked store access. Unless you use a VPN proxy server to cheat the system, you're shit out of luck if you wanted to buy stuff like Dead Rising Case Zero on XBLA. Digital future is beautiful.
But sorry for the long, mostly off-topic rant.
I was forced to use a micro-SD with a mini-SD adapter. It works okay. Was a little fiddly and the build quality of the EZ Flash isn't that great so taking the card out can be a hassle but ultimately it works. Maybe there are issues if you have a cheap no-name card or something.
edit: Aw crap, and now I'm double posting. Sorry.
Adapters work fine from my experience, and when I was trying to set an EZ4 up over a year ago, it was suggested that I go microsd with a minisd adapter because it's easier removing the microsd card than it is the mini sd.
But anyway, if you go for the one in the link I posted, you'll be fine.

What an awful game. I got it as a gift from someone. If you dont know what to do its basically impossible. I played it enough to be able to beat it though.
Im going to pick up one of those EZ Flash carts.
