GBA Kingdom Hearts: Please spoil this for me

I bought KH:COM thinking that I'd really enjoy more Kingdom Hearts action with a card battle system. I've played a little over 4 hours and about 5 'worlds', but given that
most everything so far is the same content as the PS2 game that I played thru twice
, i just can't see myself going back and playing any more of this. I'm gonna go trade it in today, but I was hoping someone could give a brief synopsis of any new storyline elements provided in the shorts bits between worlds. So far, I know that
the black-robed folks are a secret group, that they study the heartless and Ansem's theories about them, and that the spikey-haired guy is interested in Sora cause he's the second person to ever become a heartless and not loose his heart.
I just want to make sure I'm up to speed before I play KH2. Thanks in advance.

The second quest, where you play as
Riku
, is pretty cool. But if it's not your cup of tea, that's fair.

There's really not much introduced...there's
Namine, who can manipulate memories
and hints about
Sora existing in the real world, as one Memory Card takes you to Twilight Town, the town glimpsed in the KH2 trailer. But Sora doesn't remember being there, and the bad guys say that if he figures "it" out their entire operation is shot!111!1!

Dunno if
Puppet Riku
will factor in or not, but...isn't there a FAQ out that can explain this better than I?

And CoM isn't an essential play for the storyline of KH2, it's meant to bridge the gap yes, but you'll be able to get by just fine without playing.
