GDC: RAM-memory going to be a major limitation of next-generation consoles

Sony's production is massive, they can get special deals. MY bet it ain't gonna go lower than 512MB, if they even try it dev.s will beg and they will answer(hopefully ala psp, and give us 1GB :) )
I don't think we need more than 256 MB of RAM for the next generation of consoles. True, it is pretty low by PC standards, but consoles are designed with a different architecture in mind. RAM doesn't play as important a role (albeit it still is important).

guess 512 isn't out the question, though.

I just hope the PS3 has some embedded ram like the PS2.. Alot of the really neat effects of the PS2 were possible because of the embedded ram, mainly because of the insane bandwidth.

That idea should be explored some more, I really hope they don't give that up.

Why do you need a source? Isn't it logical that things like RAM amount will be decided on the last minute? Call it final when MS announces the hardware. Until then, it's 256MB+.
Afaik it's already been decided - so long as the competition doesn't force their hand. Ie. if you want 512MB in your XBox2, you better hope that Sony puts 512 in PS3.

Yeah, when xbox came out my video card had 128 mb ram too... so what? :| It didn't stop the Xbox from absolutely crushing my mighty PC.
