Gears 6: What Former Gears of War Boss's Rod Fergusson Sequel Would've Been About

We celebrate our perfectly-timed-for-Halloween episode 666 with Rod Fergusson, the super-nice franchise head of one of gaming's most evil franchises, Diablo. Rod gives us his reaction to Gears of War: E-Day as the former studio head at The Coalition, and even what his Gears 6 would've looked like.

That's interesting that he'd talk about it. I assumed they'd eventually get back to Gears 6 after this one.

I'm still making my way through Gears Tactics. Then Gears 5 / Hivebusters and I'll have played them all over the last year. Currently 4 is my favorite in the series.

I always assumed that there are going to take us off planet so pretty cool to hear that that was the goal. Why did the video Turn off before he answered what the Canon ending was though?! Haha

Shit, you just reminded me that I never played hivebusters despite buying it on a sale over a year ago. Downloading!

Going to E day instead of continuing the trilogy is absolutely the right call. It was losing sight of itself
The bigger problem I guess is because the game doesn't feel heavy anymore. 3 was the last one. 4 is kinda forgetful and 5 is a travesty

I think Rod kinda messed up gears.

So many decisions in gears 5 were terrible.

The character/classes being locked together in horde was bad. The story “choice” in gears 5 was awful. I’m a massive gears fan, but I’d rather them abandon the storyline that he started

Yes and no. Unlike Halo were the flood can move from place to place,it seems odd the Humans move from one planet after fighting a war just to do it again in a new region.
Something that the series, at least the original games, used quite heavily was the military fascism of the remaining governments. I imagine those governments would gladly pick a new fight to keep their power, basically a less satirical version of Starship Troopers' Federation. I think that could be an interesting aspect to explore.

He absolutely did not get what Cliff was doing at the helm.

Even with Diablo 4, it wasn’t him who fixed the game but the community and the actual devs.

My buddies and I have called him Rod Turd Ferguson since gears 2 days.

Rod after D4 solidified he’s a hack akin to Peter molyneux, minus the actual ambition.

This guy turned one of the most bad ass franchises into some boring action melodrama with piss poor characters and story. The fact that the team moved on and did not continue the story after he left is very telling.

Gears 4 and 5 were pretty average.
Gears 3 was the pinnacle of the series. Even went with 4 player coop.
Going back to 2 player coop in 4 and 5 felt like a step backwards.

The story of 4 and 5 made no sense anyway. 20+ years without the locust . Would been the cog would be stronger than ever and they can mass produce AI robots that can wipe the floor with the swarm. Yet still lose...

Anyway, a new world would have been cool as shit. I'm excited for some OG roided out Gears, but it's just going to be more of the same. Locusts being dickheads and people getting traumatized. Same enemies. Probably the same story beats.

This series needs something new. Unfortunately, the new trilogy phoned it in with the Swarm (basically locusts on fire) and some shitty robots. That said, I do want to see the end of the story. It left off on a pretty big cliffhanger.

I imagine its on hiatus until Gears E-Day comes out. They'd hardly drop the plotline.

A plotline that didn't get people excited after two expensive games? I doubt they ever come back to those characters. Gears is in desperate need for a soft-reboot.
