Gears Ultimate Beta Access

I see what your saying, but from a design point of view, the maps are balanced around GoW 1. Any changes like stopping power could ruin the flow of the game on those maps. For me, the old maps didn't have the same magic on GoW 3 because of this.

The only thing I always thought was debatable in GoW 1 was the active sniper downing.

GoW is the gnasher.

I agree with the active sniper down, and active shotgun is OP, but I think active lancer really feels right.
 
Gears 1 boomshot was exactly the same. More of a grenade launcher than a rpg

In Gears 1, when you shoot the Boomshot besides the feet of your opponent, that's instant kill. I shot it right beside the feet of my enemy and he lived.

But I may be wrong. It could be lag so if I'm inaccurate, my apologies in advance.

Gears 1 boom to the feet is usually a down or a really big dmg.

It sucks and its not worth the push for power weapon
 
I wish getting into and out of a game were much quicker. The down time between matches is boring.

Also, volume of enemy footsteps could get bumped up a tad.

Gears 1 was a game (though far from perfect) that had a huge skill gap and required a lot of dedication to understand and get good at. But they added so much nonsense over the years to lower that gap. They made it mind numbingly easy, for folks who can't be bothered to practice, to get kills and earn their figurative back pats and gold stars, with zero effort.

People have to and must understand that the Gears faithful, the Gears vets, the Gears fanatics, the motherfuckers who have put in hours and still play since 2006, have been abused, let down and jerked around for nine, looooooong years. This is OUR game. The one we fought, demanded, asked,pleaded and prayed for. A game we thought we would never, ever, ever get. A game that brought so many people to the Xbox brand and so many, myself included, into competitive gaming. Gears 2, 3, Judgement and casual fans will not ruin this for us. We have dealt with unwanted, unwarranted, unjustified changes for too long. It's now YOUR turn adapt.

if you stopped your dramatic readings for a second you would've realized, a broken ass movement system from 10 years ago, active snipe downs, an inconsistent gnasher, 2 piecing are reasons why you will have no one playing this trash with after 2 weeks of release. If a series cant adapt with times, people will move on to better things

You are implying that only people who like Gears 1 are Gears vets. I am a Gears vet, I literally have thousands of hours across all three games and I have played it since 2006, I do not like to play Gears 1 now. I loved it back when I played it, Gears 3 has its flaws but the sum is greater than its parts and overall it's a better made game than Gears 1.

Smoke ragdoll ? That shit has been taken out since TU2 in Gears 2.
Also it's clunky because of the fact that the movement system has been made better, not just in Gears but in every cover based shooter. You name me one post 2008 cover based TPS...JUST ONE, that does not allow you to get off the cover simply by jumping/rolling to a side...if it wasn't clunky you'd find it in games today. To even think that the very first implementation of a modern cover based game, the very first attempt Epic ever made...is not clunky at all in any imaginable way is just plain wrong.

And stopping power is a good thing, only people who ever disliked it were people who couldn't adapt to a style that prevented 100% Gnasher bumrushing. You could still rush with a Gnasher but with appropriate precautions, if you couldn't then it's all on you really.


Also why is there TDM? Why is there omnidirectional roll? Why is the hit response and shotgun spread different? Why does the hammer not make a sound anymore? Why did they remove active reload if this was Gears 1 for purists? You don't consider these things at all...yet call out others and claim this is Gears 1 through and through and as such it's stupid to ask for other additions.

It was changed drastically between TUs.
But I think it was way more "explosive" in the last one.

Also there are a lot of weapon balancements in this edition.

I remember the boomshot always being an inconsistent piece of garbage. My squad always pushed sniper and grenades. Once we had the sniper(s) the map was locked down.

I'm just happy to be choo chooing with the cole train again.

Due to many issues with folks getting into the beta due to code receiving and redeeming issues, we have decided to make all weapons skins for the beta available to all users who have participated in the beta for at least two days at any point during its' duration (does not need to be consecutive days). Additionally, as of Day 4 in the beta we will now make all past Beta skin unlocks available for use throughout the rest of the beta's duration.

We understand that this may be frustrating for some of you who have logged in every day to play – please understand that there are many players who were unable to get into the beta due to no fault of their own.

We will still have a timed exclusive to reward the most loyal beta players – on Saturday from 2:00 - 5:00 PM PDT (5:00 - 8:00 PM EDT, 10:00 PM - 1:00 AM GMT) we will be giving away the Cole Train skin only to players who play during that exact time period.

Holy shit dude, 10000+ kills in a little over 2 months. I got it in July of 07 and I thought I played a shit ton.

I played the beta some last night and while the game looks and runs well, I was oneshotted with the sniper over and over again, often in situations where I could swear I was fully behind cover, and so I will probably avoid the multi from now on. To be fair, I probably just suck at it.

I love Gears 1 single-player or Co-op though, so I'm still on board with the game.
 
stand face up to a flat wall in gridlock and fire. The bullets are about 2 foot to the top right of the shotgun so there's no way it's coming from the gun itself out of cover.

Maybe it's the hybrid system from Judgment? Sometimes it fires from camera, sometimes from barrel when it makes more sense - for example, when your barrel is sticking into wall to prevent exploiting ,shooting around corner without exposing yourself.
 
Man, got in the beta and have played again for a couple night, i forgot just how much i disliked the gears multiplayer. Was kind of excited for the remake but think I'm out as i dont really enjoy replaying single player campaigns of games.

Yeah that's what I think too. I remember I unlocked mine at about 12,000 while I had a friend who had gotten it with only like 7,000 kills.

I remember many players not being able to unlock it when they reached 10,000 kills. Never got the achievement personally.
 
Just played the beta, I haven't touched GOW for years. Did the movement always feel so weird? Maybe I'm just not used to it anymore.
 
It's totally amazing that it's just like the original. Everything was perfect in the original and now it's even more perfect in 1080p and 60 fps. If only they could get crabwalking in there again, cause that was also amazing.
A game truly without fault. They got it right first time round, why did they even try to improve it.
 
Couple of more differences from Gears 1 that makes this game not Gears 1 which people are not really talking about:

1) You can't torpedo kill with shotguns anymore
2) Bloom for sniper
3) You can't popshot with sniper, it's somewhat due to the really slow aiming speed and mostly due to the bloom.
4) Boomshot damage is extremely low, same for Grenade.

Here's something that just happened, you know the Boltok pickup point in front of middle bridge in Canals ? Well there was an enemy there and I threw a grenade in there it fell down right in the middle of that square area....the guy didn't die !

I recorded that by saying Xbox Record that but I couldn't find the game anywhere in GameDVR strange. :S

I think they disabled any recording or screenshots. I took a screenshot the first day and it was just a black screen. Videos haven't appeared in my DVR either.

The game is way better today without the active reload nonsense. I really hope this will be the default in the final release.

Are they still slow with sending out keys? Registered on day one, still nothing :-/
Did you confirm that you wanted to register? I received an email asking if I was sure that I wanted to register about an hour after I registered.
After that I had to wait a couple of hours, then they sent me my key.
 
one thing I wish they would fix is when you have to press X over something.

In later Gears I'm sure you could pick stuff up while walking but in this you seem to have to stop and really think about it.

maybe I'm misremembering? It's really annoying either way.

I don't think so. video dvr doesn't work and screenshots save but you don't seem to be able to share them (unless that's a live issue idk)

I'd go as far as to saw the HOD is totally OP and should be removed. We were 7 kills down in a team of TD there on Courtyard, I got the HOD and we won. Totally OP in such an open map.
 
Finally getting to play this and realized what everyone was talking about in speed. Game just feels slower than I remember. Maybe too used to gears 3. Also got tired of my team never rushing sniper....

And this is why the "methodical close combat of Gears 1" that some people have been talking about is quite shit. The game relies on shotgun so much and it just so happens to be the weapon most affected by centre screening, and with the additional changes in UE it becomes quite a bit worse. But yes ofcourse people who like later Gears are casuals so what would they know :p

I cannot see why stopping power and Retro are an issue but all those other shit in Gears 1 aren't....someone in here hated active reload but yet wants this game to be Gears 1 as it was. Does not compute for me.

For Gears 4. I would be happy if I can get that beefy explosive sound of perfect reload...it's what made it very satisfactory for me not the damage. The imperfect active reload sounds very dull and unimpressive.
 
Playing a match on Courtyyard and the whole match is the other team using the hammer of dawn from the center into the spawn point. So fucking boring..

grenades are nerfed to fuck in this beta, you can usually throw one up into the sniper spawn on gridlock from below and flush everyone out, now you can just stand to the side in there and avoid damage.

Gears 1 is the single greatest MP game of all time. Nothing can touch it, the sequels were an absolute disgrace
