I got my Kotobukiya Vash (Trigun Badlands) figure today from Hobby Search and upon opening the package, I could see that the left leg was completely busted off at the base.

EMS has insurance up to 20,000 yen but it looks like a pain in the ass to go through the claim process.

This is the first time I have ever received broken merchandise from Hobby Search and I guess it's fixable with some PVC glue, but I'm still pretty upset. The figure is currently sold out. :(

Looked up that figure at myfigurecollection and it appears that there's other people with broken legs.

Robo's figure came from Hobby Search, so it's not just limited to Amiami, I guess.

If you're in America, you can try ordering it from estarland. They're good people (I mainly use them for games, however). It's cheaper than other places that have them available that I can see and they have a live chat on the site if you'd like to speak with them to check on the figures beforehand. http://www.estarland.com/AnimeMerchandise.cat..product.40924.html

how often do figures get broken from shipping?

When breakings happen on this scale, it usually means something was wrong on the manufacturer/distributor end; i.e., shoddy packaging or a roughly-handled shipment. PVC figures really don't break that often in shipping. In this case I think it might have been bad packaging, since so many people are having issues with the same type of break.

Almost never. This is the first time this has ever happened to me and I own around 150 or so figures. Apparently as Mikhal stated, this seems to a defect with the product or packaging. My figure and the nature of the break looks almost exactly like the others that are broken.

Woop! Hawkeye and Iron Man Mark 1 should arrive later today :) so excited!

Trying to shift a few of my collection now, ordered Bat pod and Tumbler to add to my growing Batman collection.

Registered SAL is so useless. I started panicking after 2 of my orders had shipped a month ago and I still hadn't received either. I had already received a 3rd order that shipped 2 days later last week. I remembered that Mandarake only does registered SAL and checked the tracking, it hadn't been updated since 12/22 in Japan, and it was at home today.

So... "phat company" (?) has these up for pre-order:

...for $40. There's no sense of scale but I assume they're probably tiny-ish. Does anyone know of the build quality of these things?

Well, don't order from BBTS. It's an awful place to buy japanese figures.
Buy from amiami. Even after shipping it'll be way cheaper than BBTS. 1,900 yen = $21.43.
http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gcode=FIG-MOE-8280

100mm, so about the size of Nendoroids.
There should be some pics of the other twin pack figures Phat Company has released here http://myfigurecollection.net/search.php?overall=phat+twin
I only own one of their figures, Fate/Extra Caster, and have another preordered, Meruru, but I'm mostly a fan of their work. I like their Hibari from Senran Kagura and Totori

pretty much never especially for PVC figures.

Well first of all, don't order from BBTS. It's an awful place to buy japanese figures.

why is it awful? i've had nothing but good service from them. if you're talking about price, that's the norm for all the US sites. since i order with EMS as shipping all the time, the price difference is negligible.

It's not about their service. BBTS's prices are ridiculous, and yes, so are all US based shops. The markups are over 50% vs amiami's, and you're still paying $10 shipping on top of that. Even with EMS, buying from a Japanese site is way cheaper, and if you're patient and use SAL there's no contest. And i've heard too many stories of them never fulfilling preorders, and the Link Figma debacle.

The only time it makes sense to buy from a US shop is if it's sold out from every Japanese shop. And there's other sites that have exclusive figures, like http://www.nippon-yasan.com/ and http://www.tokyo-hunter.com/

well, to be fair, the Link debacle affected all US retailers.

is Tokyo Hunter any good? i remember contacting him about a figure once but i didn't go through with it cuz the total price was too much for me.

I've heard good stuff about them being able to get a hold of rare stuff from conventions, but fortunately I've never had to buy any exclusives besides the figuarts Chie, which I got from Nippon Yasan no problem.

I have to say, that is a helluva difference in prices between those Lagann pre-orders.

I guess though, if it's only a difference between BBT and ebay, I might lean more towards BBT.

eBay should always be the last resort. :)

WHOA, just checked out TH's site. it's way more professional now. I remember when it was just a list of random figures.

Ya i saw it but I can't find it anywhere for a good price. Amiami has the one I posted for only 50 bucks and my local comic shop is selling it for 100 so I might as well buy it from amiami.
I'm selling my Rogue Bishoujo limited edition for 275 so that should cover all the figures i'm gonna get .

Id like to get some PRecure and Nanoha figures. Where is best to find those?

the usual places like amiami/hlj/hobbysearch
i got the precure figs in hlj and nanoha ones in hong kong when i went back
the nanoha figs are prize figs, so they are medicore quality
i doubt you can get (old) precure figs, they dont make many of them, so you gotta get them while they're out, which is usually during when it airs

Anony, the picture makes them all look small but knowing that Momohime is 8.25" really puts the whole thing into perspective! What is behind them that made you drape towels over the back? I don't know Gundams, are the ones you have statues/figures or are they more like model kits you had to put together and paint? Really cool all in all.

ya, i put some towels behind them to minimize sunlight because sunlight can discolour plastic/paint
the gundams are all gunpla, you build them, they snap together, no glue no paint, unless you want to do those

And that's an insane price for Rogue. I got lucky and got the long coat version, Emma Frost, and Ms Marvel binary ver for $75 on ebay because they didn't have the boxes.

Finally got the invoice for my BF's Momohime! Now just waiting for Velvet from Odin Sphere. I sure am glad the exchange rate is so rad right now. He doesn't collect figures but there's 3 in the whole world he wants and I was finally able to help him get 2 of them! The 3rd is a really old rare Ghost in the Shell figure that was probably a cold cast model.

I really like seeing pics of y'all's rooms and collections. Keep'em coming! :D

He has good taste. Momohime and Velvet were always 2 of my favorite figures even before I started collecting them, and I'd never thought I'd own them before the rerelease because they were so expensive. I kind of wish I'd grouped them together and shipped with EMS though. If anything were to happen to them in shipping...

Also, I just finished a mini craft project. Still need to put Yu and Rise together.

In case you didn't see, Velvet's been delayed until February. Hopefully this is the last time she gets delayed. D:

Here is a pic of mine:

is anybody else getting a Goatse vibe from this pic? Maybe the internet has just ruined me.

Anyways, I'm just thinking of getting started on a very small collection. Can anyone recommend me a decent but not overly expensive Jehuty from Z.o.E.?

Thank you!

So much buzz around this figure, hope it looks as good in person.

I don't think I've ever read a bad thing about this figure, and it's one of very few that I've legitimately regretted missing out on every other time before.

Now, time to start waiting impatiently, checking the front door every few minutes.

Awesome, thanks again.

This will be my first figure.

Wow thanks BadWolf, that's actually really awesome. I really like the Anubis on there too....

I think I see how you guys end up with these huge collections.

Looks like AmiAmi.com stopped taking pre-orders for the black variant of AlphaMax's Mai Shiranui. Do they generally open orders back up once the figure actually releases?
