Geist Impressions (gamespot)

The game's quirky, original design elements haven't really changed since our previous looks at it. But since the game is now nearing release, its overarching storyline and other "glue" elements have coalesced, so we were able to check out a demo of the game from the very beginning. Our favorite part of this brief glimpse of the storyline came not long after Raimi was turned into spirit form, when Volks scientists inserted him into a training simulator of sorts that was apparently meant to acquaint him with his new ghostly status. This simulator took the form of a verdant pasture full of rainbows, rabbits, and other sickeningly cute elements. But a computer error soon distorted and ruined the simulation, setting Raimi free in the process.

the rest here :)

Sounds like it'll be a fun game to me, I'm excited for some more media of the gameplay!

'design elements'

what was wrong with that?? the game's design elements is what will hopefully set this game apart from other fpsssss.

I'm just worried because it looked and played pretty bad in other impressions for quite some time now. It seems like they've only added to the story elements. Hey, I hope it's great, it's a neat idea.

The game needs technical work, otherwise it would be getting a lot of hype. It's got me really interested though. Nintendo's been really patient with them getting it done, this is probably just a test project for this group to see what they can do and slowly progress them into a team who can work on other projects.

By innovative you mean done before, right?

I've never heard of a game that features the whole "possesion" ability in a first person view like this.

In the demo level, we had to possess an enemy soldier to access several different computer terminals and gain information about the fate of one of Raimi's comrades.

sounds interesting to me!

am I the only one that thinks it's a bad idea? shouldn't FPS be about... shooting? why so much focus on non-shooting elements lately? I want to shoot!

It's a First Person Possesion (FPP) not a FPS.

It's not like there isn't any variety out there. I'm playing Cold Winter right now on PS2, and it feels like an older style shooter with tons of enemies and fun shooting, but has a well done story, etc. The genre isn't really hurting.

There are TONS of "regular" FPS games being made, though. If you want to just shoot things (and I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that), you have a whole bunch of options with plenty more coming up in the future. Bearing this in mind, why not make a departure from the genre?

Personally, I'm rooting hard for this game. The premise and storyline interest me and it sounds like something I'd have lots of fun playing. Unfortunately, it does sound like Nspace is having trouble with some technical aspects. Nintendo ought to send some Retro staff over to help them polish it up.
