Geoff Keighley: Sony announced to acquire Bungie three years ago, how would you rate the results so far?

It's too early to jump into conclusions. It's a long term investment.

But if I could vote, I would vote A.

The only truly bad move by Jim Ryan.

From a short term view, yeah, but nothing purchased at that time was worth it. Everything was in overvalued and it was a knee jerk move to counter Activision.

If Activision were valued today, given their losses in revenue, it would equal the loss of 2x Bungie acquisitions.

But long term, who knows. They could prove to be a GaaS powerhouse. Destiny 2 already is, look at the steam activity for the year.

And if they fail with marathon or other games. It just means more control by Sony which may allow them to work on SP again

From a short term view, yeah
Long term visions were pretty much out of the table the moment it was clear that they will need to be integrated within PlayStation Studios management to right the ship. The vision around Bungie having production autonomy and being a separate publisher for years to come was not one bound to happen.

This makes no sense, the acquisition was planned months ahead of any announcement.

I see Xbox even ported their ambassador program to Playstation.

F-

Bungie management turned out to be assholes who were bad at their job.

A ridiculous sum in hindsight. Also helped canceled Factions 2.

I think at least one new project should be released before someone makes a real judgement. But I will say, they allowed Concord to release but made Sony cancel Factions II, so the grade is F.

? I mean.....we've yet to see a game to rate anything.

Does Keighley not realize you need things out and made to actually judge the quality of the move or? smh...drunk off of Mountain Dew and Doritos

Right now? F. Considering all the shit that has happened since they paid for them, it's an F. For now.

It seems like the valuable insight on live service games that they acquired from Bungie didn't really pan out so far. It doesn't look good for the future.

Bungie were amazing during the Halo heydays. I bought the PS4 bundled with Destiny and was put off right away. I never returned and haven't cared for Bungie since Halo: Reach, honestly.

I still think it was more or less a desperate move to react to Microsoft's continuing acquisitions. There are better studios they could purchase for those several billion.

I want that Hitler meme where he says "Marathon will release and everything will be alright".

But I do believe Marathon will be huge. And Destiny will do slightly better also next year with Behemoth and Apollo

Let's see when Marathon releases.
I don't think Sony cancelled all those live service games for nothing. Marathon might be their ace.

Not sure how you can rate Sony's involvement when the essence of the buy-out that Bungie was allowed to maintain their independence so long as they hit their performance targets. Bungie have been slipping, which is why Sony are looking to assert to greater control.

Whoever made the decision to buy Bungie should be paraded naked through every Sony office while workers throw rotten vegetables at him.

I enjoyed destiny 1 until I realised i couldn't gain more xp. Then I moved on. I am not alone.

An acquisition for one game though

Some people got rich. For them, it worked out. For Sony, the worst is yet to come. Bungie will be "restructured" and "optimized" in 3 years as the latest.

Sony panic bought this bloated adult daycare organization for a ridiculous price, then had to come in and cut heads and take greater control of the company.

Sony themselves probably regret it and rate it an F
