I just caught this on one of the movie networks. I'd never even heard of this until today. It was...interesting. The pacing is ridiculously slow, and you could probably fit the total dialogue of the movie onto no more than 7-8 pages, but for some reason I still liked it. For those who don't know, it's about 2 guys who get lost in the desert. The movie then basically follows them around barren landscapes. It's definitely not for the guns and action crowd, and if you have cinematic A.D.D. then you'll probably want to stay away from it. There are literally shots that are 2-3 minutes long, and it's just people walking. Or a really slow 360 degree pan around one of the actor's faces. It's just...really different. The cinematography is gorgeous though, and I really felt like I was out there with these characters.

Anyways, has anyone else seen this? You definitely have to be in a certain frame of mind to enjoy it I guess, but I think it's a trip worth taking.

Gerry was awful. After the first ten or fifteen minutes and before the last three or four it's a lot of beautiful shots held for about five minutes too long.

I can watch Ran or 2001 without getting drowsy but I fell asleep multiple times during this movie.

I caught it when if first came out Alucard. It is a Gus Van Sant movie which explains why Damon and an Affleck are in it. The movie to me was really interesting and a great experience, but I can appreciate the starkness and loneliness and sort of quiet resignation that the movie provides. If you are into film as a way of conveying emotion and invoking introspection you should love this movie.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
This has been on my list for a while. Eventually I'll get to it, maybe soon, as I'm starting up a Netflix account shortly.

Van Sant is so hit or miss, but even when he hits its not very hot. I guess Good Will Hunting and To Die For are it for him, imo. Elephant taking the 2003 Palme d'Or over Dogville is a travesty in the highest form.

I saw it when it first came out, also. Even though I know most people won't like the minimalist, ambiguous approach, I still recommend it because it's worth watching once. I didn't enjoy every minute of it, but that's not necessary to appreciate the movie, imo. Somebody once told me to watch it in chunks, but the movie would probably lose its impact if you were to watch it that way.

Good Will Hunting is one of my favorite movies of all-time.

I'm right with you. In my top 3 ever. I dare anyone to not get teary-eyed during Damon and Williams' "It's not your fault" exchange.
