Get impregnated by World Cup stars and win free Whoppers, says Burger King

A lifetime supply of whoppers is not a bad offer.

has apologized for a poor-taste ad campaign posted on its official Russian social media account.

On Tuesday the burger chain announced a promotion on VK, the Russian equivalent of Facebook, offering women 3 million Russian roubles ($47,000) and a lifetime supply of Whoppers if they get impregnated by football players competing in the World Cup.

Shortly after announcing the campaign they pulled it due to backlash. Burger King posted a statement on VK apologizing and said it had removed all materials related to the promotion. However, evidence of the stunt lives on in screenshots.

There isn't a single influential feminist movement in Russia.
Majority of the Russians just shrug it off.
Apologies are mostly caused by "the rest of the world" reaction (including head office, I presume).

BK Russia (and many other Russian companies) use a lot of stuff, that would be perceived as shockingly sexist or racist (or both) in the West, this time it just got into "world" spotlight.

The country is just... quite different.

Ahh Russia.

What does nationalism have to do with a stupid publicity stunt?

I think it's because a russian MP warned russian women not to have sex with foreigners and warned against having biracial babies. To be fair, she's right, biracial babies will have a terrible time in Russia....

Even with this positive fact it does not make Russia a good place to live.
Uhm if there is one place feminism should be present more it's in Russia..
I thought you where ok with 2nd wave feminism?
If you think the fight for woman is done in Russia, I have really bad news for you..

Women's rights maybe, feminism no.

No, the other way. They want to breed the best professional soccer players in the world to represent Russia.
"the best football genes "

Nah I'm talking about a different thing. A russian politician told russian women not have sex or make babies with foreigners because of how they will be treated in Russia. Tamara Pletnyova was her name.

Who is going to fight for those rights then?
I know feminism has gotten a stigma for some people, and in some cases rightfully so.. but the core of feminism has always been about equality for both men and woman.. that some lunatics have decided to hijack the cause and change it, to only be about fighting for woman superiority .. has nothing to do with the core ideology..

I think it was some of you(maybe not you), but definitely Dunki who was defending GG of not being misogynistic and shouldn't be looked at through the lense that only focus on the minority lunatic portion of the movement, witch I think is fair to do, if it really is a Skewed viewpoint that is represented...

I just find it a tad bit hypocritical to then just point at those same kind of people as the only ones representing feminism..

There are still feminists who doesn't share the sentiment that the so called patriarchy should be replaced with a matriarchy.. because that would be just as polarising..

Why do you think the core of feminism is about equality for men and women? Genuine question.

Because that was the outset when it started..
that some of modern feminist movements has just about erased the men part of the equation is troublesome.. and pointing to people who wants a matriarchy instead of equality..

I need to browse VK and other shitholes more ofter, it is wierd to read wild shit about your country from foreign message boards.

So you're saying that the media coverage of Russia is twisted?
I can believe that
It is more of that I don't actually read russian media, nor do I browse russian internet that often. Although any time I do that out of sheer curiosity I always find some ass-backwards stuff like this. What can you say, we are far off from being a "normal" country, years upon years of slavery does this to the general population.

As I don't feel like my feelings are hurt, I do enjoy surfing through russian resources as it is rather difficult to get a ban there, it much more lax that closed echo chambers in western side of internet. Not to mention I am a native russian speaker.

There are couple of cases when a person was banned - and only because they were widespread - like popular (more or less) people. Most of the time - Roscomnadzor is simply incompetent to do anything.

Also most of the communities are anonymous like NeoGaf for example.

I think people look at the 1st and 2nd waves of feminism through rose-tinted glasses because of the sheer insanity of the 3rd. The problem I have with all waves of feminism is that they have always focused solely on women's rights and never on the reciprocal responsibilities of women or men (look into the white feather movement that went hand-in-hand with the suffragette movement). The traditional responsibilities of men throughout the entire evolution of our species have revolved around defense of the tribe. There is a reason that each wave of feminism has peaked during the generational change following a major war. During the prolonged periods of peace, we become complacent and lose appreciation for the traditional responsibilities of men, while women's responsibilities (maintaining the household) are consistent throughout and taint the views of those who haven't lived through periods where men's responsibilities have been necessary.

The other factor is technology. Are traditional male responsibilities redundant now that our military technology is so powerful relative to our potential enemies? If WW3 broke out tomorrow, would we need to enforce the draft (this was never repealed and is still law btw)? These are the kinds of things an objective and genuinely scientific gender studies discipline would study, but they don't, and feminism is inextricably linked to gender studies academia (which is just rebranded 1970s women's studies btw). So to say the core feminism is about rights for women and men is laughable. If you believe that, you've fallen for the PR front of feminism that hides the underlying fact that it is and always has been solely about women's rights with no consideration for women's responsibilities, men's responsibilities, or men's rights. The trickle-down rights that feminists espouse are a lie. Matriarchy is obviously a poor solution and anyone who would suggest it is likely ideologically motivated and doesn't understand the nature of humans or the world in general. Can't have the yin without the yang.

In regards to Russia, maybe they do need more women's rights, but I don't know enough about Russian culture to say. My first question would be: how are the responsibilities distributed?
