One huge missed opportunity though (got reminded of this by the recent DF Retro episode about Usagi Yojimbo, because that game had it way back in 80-something) is that you should be able to bow to NPCs, and the NPCs would bow back. Hope that makes it into the inevitable sequel.
That's funny I swear I was bowing to some priests and some other NPC's especially when you enter their home and they bowed back in response, was that all just coincidence?

Im at end of Act 2 and its amazing!

This is a shame tbh, not a deal breaker tho

I just wish that there was some subtle difference when going more ghost route.

And I wish the grapple hook with ghost could be used as a weapon as well, hate to say it like batman, string people up, and install fear, or be more usable like i tenchu, Instead of just certain grapple points

Think SP missed a trick here, especially with infamous and the good/bad unlocks are different. Could of made it worth 2 play through samurai/ghost playthrough, doesnt seem to be any difference tbh

I could be wrong only just into act 2

If there is please don't tell me, don't spoil it for me, but I feel it won't change

Again this doesn't stop me loving the game, just could of been a bit more to it, comabt great regardless

Hmm, admittedly I only tried this a couple of times (and am away from home the rest of the week so unable to verify), but I never got it to work. Although I always tried it after I'd ransacked their entire house for anything and everything, so perhaps the NPCs weren't feeling so friendly.

I never felt bored in this game, not once, the way they did side missions was brilliant, not all were really deep but they all made sense to Jins situation, it was so well done. for me the witcher 3, RDR2 and GOT have done story right to the point where I was so engrossed the whole game. I hope more games learn from these 3, and I think the devs are, I think we are going to see some awesome storytelling in future 3rd person games.

Kudos to suckerpunch they made a beautiful game that is fun to play and now word of mouth has gotten around and it's selling out everywhere, they deserve every bit of success this game brings!

Just finished the campaign.

Mostly a very throrough run, a few errands left but not many.

What an ending.

Considering what it means, the name of the trophy for finishing the campaign is very fitting, both within the story and as a meta comentary since well, that's the end of the story.

Honestly, despite its flaws I really liked this game. The main story was a bit samurai-generic but it was well done and as a homage to the old movies it worked nicely and the tales were a treat. Even some of the one-off tales were well written. The last open-world I finished was Odyssey and I liked that game, possibly even a better game, but I'll remember the tale of the Ghost longer than I'll remember Odyssey.

I love that horseback special. I didn't get it until fairly late into Act 2 but I usually do it instead of a stand off.

Finished the game, I took my time especially during Act 1 and 2. I explored the whole map, uncovered and unlocked everything. I kept putting off the main story quests until everything else was done. I think this approach burnt me out a bit for Act 3, I was starting to feel a bit of fatigue for the game. It was a big time investment, but very enjoyable. The game is glorious, and whilst the story is predictable, its meaningful. I think they nailed it perfectly. I really enjoy how Sucker Punch does open world games. The combat was good for a casual type like myself.

Such a beautiful game and a technical marvel. Obviously it has it's flaws, but some of the attention to detail makes the passion so obvious. The high praise from Japanese developers speaks volume.

I couldn't resist petting the foxes after shrines. Always brings a smile to my face.

I would love a small expansion like Second Second received. Not sure if it should focus on Jin or the straw hats.

They could also go Big Trouble in Little China and bring in the sorcery and magical elements. But the somewhat grounded nature of the game is part of the charm.

Any new sales numbers on this game? I've been loving it and I have most of my friends trying to purchase a physical copy and most places around DFW are selling out so quickly. I'm happy for the team that worked so hard, this is a classic in the making.

Dance of wrath it's just like Hiten Mitsurugi with it's focus on facing multiple enemies from a live blade stance in a single strike.

That clip of Kenshin is him going into Battousai mode, which for me is more similar to Jin activating the Ghost stance.

I though it was pretty fun. The story was very forgettable and I cared so little even though I wanted to like it. The ending fight though was pretty great. I really wish they had gone more fantasy and Japanese lore based rather than strictly trying to stick to "realism." It was like it wanted to give meaning and purpose to the side quests and they came out like a wet fart. Just not a lot of substance.

Combat was the real standout but I can't help but feel how much better it'd have played had it been at 60fps. Some of the timing windows for parrying are very narrow on Hard and playing at 30fps and an inconsistent 30fps at that can really make the combat feel like shit sometimes.

Graphically it's stunning and I have no complaints.

Animation.....what the fuck?! Did they just not want inverse kinematics in the game or what? It looks awful, especially compared to how great the game looks, you're constantly reminded anytime you go up or down a hill that the animations just plain aren't up to standard.

Music I really liked when it played, but it feels very understated. Like a shittier implementation of how Breath of the Wild did it. Great stuff, just doesn't play enough.

Overall though, I did enjoy it, it's fun to play and explore, I wish the grappling hook could have been used at any place and the ability to climb anything would have been great. Overall, I'd say it's the best Sony release this year, I enjoyed it much more than TLoU2. Can't wait to see where they go in the future with the franchise or hopefully they take this and make a fantasy based game, I'd dig it a lot more.

I'd give it a solid 7/10. Awesome time playing it.

Really bugs me there's no button for just putting my sword away.

Starting to really dig how SP have done the map discovery, apart from quests you could pretty much just find everything without the map, using animals, smoke etc, feels .I've exploring for a change in ooen worlds

Shame the grapple hook isn't more like tenchu, but fine I guess, but feels limited

Music needs to be louder too, had to drop the rest of the sound, just to boost it

Only just into act 2, really getting into it now

the story is based on older kurosawa movies and 60’s era japanese cinema, which is very dark and gritty compared to what we see now. for fans of this genre the setting and story was perfect. but i can see how people could be confused or want a more fantastical setting since most of what people think of japan nowadays comes from yugi-oh or anime

Dunno, I've been to Japan multiple times and love Kurosawa movies, but I just didn't give a single shit about this story. It was very much "your princess is in another castle" scenarios and then the ending.

The "honorable" intentions thing they tried to go for fell flat because if you don't use those tools to play you are essentially denying yourself half the gameplay element. It wasn't like 47 Ronin or Seven Samurai in how it built any of the characters in anyway more than a superfluous way. Its like they tried to emulate what Witcher 3 did without understanding why all those side quests were so beloved.

I do think it's Sucker Punch's best game to date and I've enjoyed all of them they've released and I look forward to seeing what they do next. But the story of this game is flat and predictable as hell.

The "honorable" intentions thing they tried to go for fell flat because if you don't use those tools to play you are essentially denying yourself half the gameplay element. It wasn't like 47 Ronin or Seven Samurai in how it built any of the characters in anyway more than a superfluous way. Its like they tried to emulate what Witcher 3 did without understanding why all those side quests were so beloved.

Maybe you just didn't feel it but I thought everything was paced really well, chapter one was titled 'Rescue Lord Shimura' , the aim and outcome was clear...

The character stories seemed to be unique, memorable and fitting.... particularly Masakos, Ichikawa and Yunas.... I was a bit colder on the monks, even though it wasn't bad it just seemed less unique.

Mystic tales were awesome .... I loved those.

I thought the twist late in chapter 2 was great and the ending and prologue were fantastic and memorable... very cathartic and emotional respectively.

So I really don't understand the point about 'your princess is in another castle'

I liked that the areas you were introduced to looked very different too and more verticality was introduced in later areas.
Duels were epic too, one of my favorite parts of the game.

I found it much more engaging than Watcher 3 due to the far more engaging gameplay / combat, more vibrant world that seems more alive and the antagonist was way more memorable.... it's also more grounded and doesn't depend on fantasy tropes like Witcher... much of the Elvish culture in W3 is just a load of random Irish word thrown together and stories from Irish folklore 'borrowed' without any reference or thanks.

Anyway the game seems to be extremely popular, with amazing word of mouth.... here is a music video I just watched...

Anyway, I gave up after reaching ACT 2 and 100% the first area of the island. I don't know if I'll ever come back to it so possibly this will be the second Sony open world game that I dropped this gen (after Days Gone).

Open-world games will always have that risk of burnout... I got it in W3 and Horizon and had to start them again.

To be honest I dropped Horizion after few hours but that was mainly because I wasn't paying attention to the story. When I came back I started from the begging taking my time and I completed it having a rather good time. I'm even thinking about getting it again on PC and playing the DLC.

With Ghost of Tsushima I was following the story and side-quests, reading entry logs, notes, artifact descriptions etc. I just don't find writing and storytelling in this game interesting in any way. Which is a bummer because I REALLY wanted to like this game.

Well that's too bad, I thought Horizon had a great story but human combat was not great and the world was super beautiful but not quite as vibrant and inspiring to me as GOT.

I hope they work on side-quests, human combat and offer more traversal options in Forbidden West.

less than tlou2 but it could possibly get more than horizon when all is said and done

i never finished horizon, if anything Got makes me wanna go back to it.
like you said tho i didnt pay too much to the story, after GOT def gon try to finish that HZD

you can make an arguement that all open world games are going to be “that princess is in another castle” in some fashion. but if the story fell flat than that’s fine everyone has their own opinion, i thought it was great. i think the mythic quests had some fantastical elements but i’m glad they kept it rooted in reality and kept it intentionally dark which set the tone of a country in the middle of an invasion, the realistic tone also sets it apart from the multitudes of other samurai fantasy games with androgynous male anime heros out there

Lethal is difficult, but is based on your ability to avoid being hit as one hit will nearly almost always kill, both you and enemies alike....it doesn’t make them sword sponges which is what I felt hard did.

That said, I would not play on lethal your first time, only after you get familiar with the mechanics and timing or you’re going to needlessly frustrate yourself. I played with it starting on a second play through and still got my ass handed to me even though now I can get through most encounters without taking a scratch. It’s mostly hard due to a lack of stances and abilities early game to break through each enemy type’s defenses and tactics, which really make dependence on ghost weapons all the more vital.

It’s a bit hard for me to quantify lethal as more “difficult“. I’d argue it’s more realistic, and that intrinsic to the nature of these weapons, a single mistake isn’t forgiven.

i think they 2nd game should be on the mainland japan, i can't see jin returning,. mongols 2nd invasion could be another cool story, but im confident that dlc is incoming.
A DLC focusing on Tsushima would be nice, and I agree with Mainland Japan for a 2nd game, as there is only so much you can do on an island that you explored previously. The game could show Jin establishing a Shinobi Clan for example.

I beat the entire thing on Hard mode. Its rather easy. There are some tough battles (some duels and group battles with hostages can be tough) and especially the first hour or so can be difficult for various known RPG reasons (underpowered).

I play Lethal in the post-story and it doesn't feel too different from Hard. I mainly feel damage on both sides is increased, a shield brute can one or 2 shot me so they are more dangerous than ever. Sentries seem to spot you sooner as well.

But I need to try a fresh new game to see what lethal is about as i'm nearly maxed out.
