Giant Bomb #24 | In the beginning...

i have no idea when i started watching. Definitely wasn't here for Arrow Pointing Down because I knew sweet fuck all about Gamespot before Giant Bomb.

It might have been around the launch of Kinect? Or Move? Because I definitely remember watching "Rider meet horse, horse, mEET rIDeR" when it came out

I followed GB from the beginning, but not regularly until, 2011 or so. Went premium for MGScanlon and Demo Derby.

First time GB stood out was that Too Human chocotaco video thing.

I started watching GB before the release of MW2.
I saw their interview with Robert Bowling linked in some forum and the rest is history.

They basically weren't jumping up and down for joy for the 3 big announcements and people took that to mean that they hate Sony and everything they stand for.

Come on now, that's not exactly true. The people angrily complaining about them being jaded were way over the top but even GB thread regulars pointed out the guys were being kind of salty. Brad's bitter "waste of resources" rant about SE doing the FF7 remake was pretty silly.

I wonder if someone is now excited about Shenmue 3 after that Endurance Run. Someone that didn't know the game beforehand.

Anyone who's known them for a while knows that most of them did not care for Shenmue or FF7. I don't know what they were honestly expecting.

Funny thing is how accusations of Giant Bomb hating Xbox/PC/Sony/Nintendo changes every day of the week. Right now it's Sony for the VR stuff. After the Bombcast, it'll be Nintendo for the Switch.

Is the 2015 Year of Dreams coming out in 2017 or 2018?

Scattered. Last Guardian 2016, either FF7 or KH3 in 2017, and Shenmue 3 in 2018. And by the time Crackdown 3 comes out in 2020, technically that'd be added to those vaporware dream games.

Saw Alex tweeting about Bethesda's new policy of not sending out review copies until the release date. Not quite sure if I'm for or against it, tbh.

Like, I almost never read reviews anymore. IMO they are as close to unnecessary as they've ever been. Especially with GB - a Quick Look + a score is pretty much all I would ever need.

Gives them an extra two weeks to fix the really egregious shit before the reviews start coming in. I'm sure it'll save them money over actually releasing an acceptable product.

Where can I find transcribed bits of how Giant Bomb came to be? Like, the creation of the site, how Vinny, Ryan, and Brad left Gamespot to help make Giant Bomb? The creation of the site is fascinating because it's rare that someone who gets fired ends up becoming bigger than the company that fired him.

Search for How to Build a Bomb on either the main site or their youtube channel for a slight parody of how.

Or his Jar Time show if you are a premium member as i recall that question comes up a bunch

Jeff has talked about it lots
Maybe this interview
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xeF0rOCXL4w

IIRC the talk he did a NYU went over the creation a bit as well (also had a chill crowd with good questions)

this is good https://www.reddit.com/r/giantbomb/...ng_through_history_a_behindthescenes_look_at/
(but not as much text as I expected, even wikipedia has more)

Woof, digging way back. The Wikipeida entry on Jeff covers the big important bits, check all the citations there, also look up Making a Bomb (which is a very terrible choice of name, make sure to search it on the giant bomb website).

Greg Miller talks with Jeff about it here https://youtu.be/hFWZQH4ec6s

Jeff goes into it a bit here in the announcement video for GB being acquired by CBS https://youtu.be/GagFPnSG0j4

edit: just read transcribed my bad

Cindi I want mention how I appreciate what you've brought to the thread. A Giant Bomb "newcomer" bringing up all this old stuff for us to reminisce and discuss has been really fun. Good vibes in here lately.
