I just saw you write Nier off because of one GB livestream and now you're trying to tell me you don't know what to think of Persona 5 because of a Giant Bomb video that was positive about it

First of all I didn't write off Nier because of one livestream... I've been following that game for weeks, the stream was just the final nail in the coffin for me.

Also the P5 QL just increased the curiosity I already had for the game in part because of the crew's enthousiasm.

Jeez some people are so fucking defensive sometimes

I think he's joking or atleast that's what I got out of it.

You know I didn't think anything can knock Persona 5 as soundtrack of the year for me.

But nier is making a pretty good case for it.

Hell yeah, they're QL'ing Snake Pass. Enjoyed what I played of it so far and David Wise is just *italian chef kiss*

Wow, that game seems like a much more creative take on making a modern Rare-esque platformer than Yooka-Laylee. Actually introducing an interesting new core gameplay hook rather than just a soulless uninspired reskin of Banjo-Kazooie.

I'm so slow on Yakuza 0 I just got to Majima. And i'm likely to take another break to get in Persona 5.

And everybody makes Nier Automata sound incredible and I want time to play that.

TBH I don't think any game this year is coming close to Nier in the soundtrack department for me. I thought the first Nier had one of the best video game soundtracks ever, and Automata somehow managed to top it.

I like P5's soundtrack a lot but it's a bit passive for me.

Nier is fucking astounding. I paid the truly ridiculous price for the 3-disc set + 4th chiptune cd the other day.

I'll probably cave on P5's OST too eventually, but not right now.

I hope they get to covering more Switch stuff, curious about Has Been Heroes after the trailer/footage seemed kind of...cheap looking? Dunno.

Yeah the more I see of it the less interested I get, I was hoping for Darkest Dungeon but it looks like some cheap mobile game honestly.

Totally. I feel bad for knocking it on art alone but combined with the footage I've seen it looks like kind of a bland package overall (which in the end is kind of how I felt about Trine so I guess that lines up?).

I'm a sucker for soundtracks that can use vocals right.

Yeah, it's incredible, but I was disappointed that my favorite song from the first game didn't return...

But then an even better version of it shows up during a late-game sidequest.

I actually really do like a lot of the ideas behind the battle system. I don't know how well it'll play for the whole game. But I spent about about like 15 minutes struggling to learn how to play it, then another 15 where I started to enjoy it.

That's reassuring, suppose I'll look around for more impressions/let's plays instead of waiting on GB

Giant Bomb doing reviews continues to be weird. I can't imagine it'll get a lot of traffic beyond the core GB audience since the consensus has been formed already, and the core GB audience doesn't need a review to know what Brad thinks.

They seem to enjoy doing them here and there. I usually always read them

Yeah...yeah. It's the ultimate realization of the journey over the destination. Probably the least memorable Ganon encounter, all told. It's an incredible journey, though.

Agreed, I was underwhelmed by the Ganon fight. I guess its partially because I'm so overpowered by now, but it didn't feel that interesting of a fight
And the phase 2 "fight" was even lamer

It kinda felt like if they really blew this game out and had unique dungeons and bosses in each region, and all that purple Ganon shit all over the world was just confined to one region, he would make a great boss for that region. It was kinda underwhelming, just a really hard-hitting, high healthy enemy, although
the part where he went invincible took me a while to figure out

Yeah it was basically fanservice. I took it as "Congratulations you beat the game, here's one final playable section that's a classic scene in the Zelda series"

I think having a third encounter ala Demise or the Twilight Princess Ganon (because that's probably the best Ganon fight in the series) would have made the whole thing worth it. In this he just kind of feels like a mindless beast when I've always appreciated that expository side.

Lol and I thought never being compelled to check out UPF was on me. I did watch one episode once though where they played Jackbox because I love Jackbox.

What don't you guys like about it?

Have you never watched UPF before? You should check out the first few year I'd say, some peak GB content in there. Maybe year two is also as good, I can't really remember.

It's just felt pretty stale in it's current format. I'm surprised you've not seen some people shitting on it hardcore in this thread. The format of "four people pick a random game" feels pretty rigid, and often times it feels like no one actually cares about the game they brought in, which usually means it's not really fun or enjoyable to watch as a viewer.

Has anyone watched GB's Persona endurance run?

I'm one of the two people that have seen it. What do you want to know?

The first bit of Gannon's design is amazing and the fight itself is mechanically fun if easy imho

I dunno it reminded me more of a
Dark Souls/Bloodborne
design than Zelda. Just a
multi-armed and legged blob monster.
I thought the
pig Ganon design was excellent though, maybe the best Ganon I've seen

I think a more elaborate Hyrule Castle would have helped as well. I literally just ran past everything. Also I was a bit disappointed it was only just Moblins and Lizafos in the castle as well.

The Ganon fight wasn't all that great, but going through and climbing up the castle to get to him was a pretty incredible experience for me. I had like 12 hearts so that part was actually pretty challenging. I think it was my favorite dungeon if you can call it that.
